To spoil my soul with fire

All my eyes can see is

born out of your imagery

It's coming at, it's coming at, it's coming at my heart

To scorch the earth with fire

мy мυѕιc "INZO - Overthinker"

"A person who thinks all the time

Has nothing to think about except thoughts

So, he loses touch with reality

And lives in a world of illusions

By thoughts, I mean specifically, chatter in the skull

Perpetual and compulsive repetition of words

Of reckoning and calculating

I'm not saying that thinking is bad

Like everything else, It's useful in moderation

A good servant, but a bad master

And all so-called civilized peoples

Have increasingly become crazy and self-destructive

Because, through excessive thinking

They have lost touch with reality

That's to say

We confuse signs

With the real world

This is the beginning of meditation

Most of us would have

Rather money than tangible wealth

And a great occasion is somehow spoiled for us unless photographed

And to read about it the next day in the newspaper

Is oddly more fun for us than the original event

This is a disaster

For as a result of confusing the real world of nature with mere signs

We are destroying nature

We are so tied up in our minds that we've lost our senses

Time to wake up

What is reality?

Obviously no one can say

Because it isn't words

It isn't material, that's just an idea

Reality is

The point cannot be explained in words

I'm not trying to put you down

It's an expression of you as you are

One must live

We need to survive, to go on

We must go on!"

a red-billed oxpecker (buphagus erythrorhynchus) on the best possible carpet for a photo,a burchell'szebra.

oxpeckers are very specialized birds, largest part of their food is found on the big mammals.they eat mostly ticks so these birds are very useful for the big animals.the oxpecker body is perfectly adapted to climb on the mammals and the bill works like a comb to catch also ticks larvae from the long hairs...i love to see these birds working and they are amazing "models" for some shots.

This is the canal which links the Cagliari salt evaporation ponds (now dismissed) with the harbour. The salt collected in the ponds was loaded into barges and then a tug carried the train of barges to the harbour where the salt was unloaded to be shipped.

In ancient times the barges were pulled by horses.

To do the useful thing, to say the courageous thing, to contemplate the beautiful thing: that is enough for one man's life.

Lately I found my mind wandering as we wind ourselves into the new year of 2023. I decided to do a more thoughtful pose to work with some PS tools I've neglected for far too long to get the hang of them. Maybe, hah. Working in extreme closeup made me appreciate the work put into the eyebrows and eyes by Landgraff (his Unholy eyes are really cool), the brows alone are nicely detailed down to the tiniest hair and added scar. I'm wearing Cubic Cherry's spectacles to add to the haughty look.

Paddy doesn't know it yet but he's about to go on a 200 mile walkie tomorrow across Scotland on the Southern Upland Way sleeping under my 350 gram tent for a week or so! Thought I'd better get this one posted as i'll not be sure of a signal on my phone which i'll be using as my camera cos Paddy's food bag of kibble is enormous and weighs as much as it looks, indeed 3 times the size and weight of my pot noodles!:) .. still he'll come in useful as a hot dog water bottle to supplement my meagre 1/2 season sleeping bag:)

Macro Mondays theme 'spiral'.

There always seems to be a small spring lurking in a drawer or toolbox, saved for that time when you may need it.

You never remember where it came from, but sometimes it will be useful. .

Taken at the Great Central Railway in Loughborough, found this old, though still useful shed - I liked the way the light fell on the doors.

Sticky and useful, inkcaps were used as a source of ink for important documents to guard against forgeries.

They cause serious problems when consumed with alcohol hence the common name Tipplers Bane.

So useful for a breather..

Sometimes the impressive horns of the Scottish Highland Cattle turn out to be very useful tools !:)

For 120 pictures in 2020 #113 "Useful", this is a set of 4 mini-whisks I use mainly for beating scrambled eggs (I am the only one in the house who eats them, so only two at a time). But they are also great for mixing in any small bowl or container.

Famous, enchanting and highly toxic, Fly agaric is the home of fairies and magical creatures and a lover of birch woodland, where it helps trees by transferring nutrients into their roots, but if eaten can cause hallucinations and psychotic reactions.

Native to the UK, it grows in woodland and heathland on light soils among birch, pine or spruce.

Fly agaric is poisonous and infamous for its psychoactive and hallucinogenic properties, but reports of human deaths are extremely rare. It was traditionally used as an insecticide. The cap was broken up and sprinkled into saucers of milk. It's known to contain ibotenic acid, which both attracts and kills flies – which gave it its name.

Scientific name: Amanita muscaria.

So pleased to find this on one of Marnie and my walks. I didn't have my 'proper' camera with me so used my mobile phone.

‘Self-help’ and ‘autonomy’ are useful skills to teach children, though admittedly, I often fail at ensuring these skills are promoted in a loving and supportive way. On more occasions than I care to admit, I often find myself flippantly saying, “just do it already!” or in a state of frustration, opt to undergo tasks in my own seemingly more-efficient way. It would be easy for children to mis-infer that ‘autonomy’ is the golden rule in standards of living – when it isn’t.

It certainly runs a risk of undermining the equally-important issue of ‘inter-dependency’. We are, after all, gregarious beings, with an identity firmly fixed in the context of community…

Place2Be’ is launching the UK’s first Children’s Mental Health Week; a charity that provides emotional and therapeutic services to children, in schools across the country. Please make sure to visit their website and be made aware of the very prevalence of child mental health...

In one of its pages, it reads, “...one of the most important life-skills we teach our children is knowing when to ask for help.

In reality, children, in one way or another, are always asking for help; the task for us, as carers, is to listen.

At first glance maybe an unusual spider? lol! This is a "bear claw," one of two that I use to retrieve a large, stuffed turkey from the oven twice a year. Yes, Thanksgiving and Christmas. ( I think it would make a great weapon, too if I encountered a burglar in my home)! Super sharp! Happy Crazy Tuesday everyone!

Useful versus beautiful. A recurring debate in contemporary architecture, where these concepts often seem mutually exclusive. Yet for centuries, functional buildings did not shy away from beauty — especially during the classical period. Istanbul’s Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) is a perfect example. Built in 532 AD by order of Emperor Justinian I, it was designed to store drinking water brought from the Valens Aqueduct and other sources, with a capacity of up to 80,000 m³. From the outside, nothing hints at its presence. But upon descending, we are met with a surprising scene: a forest of 336 marble columns holding up a brick vault. The play of lights, the reflections in the water, the shadows... everything contributes to a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Part of its beauty lies in its imperfection: many columns were repurposed from ancient temples, and their diverse capitals give the space a unique, human character. In the golden gloom of the image, the columns seem to repeat endlessly, mirrored on the still water. The visitor —small, almost invisible— wanders among shadows and light, as if walking through a timeless underground city.

NS P87 dodges shadows as it descends the Old Fort Loops on its way east to Bridgewater. A few kudzu-lined fills not withstanding, much of the loops are a tree tunnel much like this location. Incredible to watch and listen to (and plenty useful if you have a drone), but from ground level your options can be a bit limited pending the time of day. With P87 running early this day, 80% sun on the head end was a victory.

It is no coincidence that this incredibly beautiful, fragrant and useful plant is called a wild rose. A close relative of the most beautiful flower on earth, the rose hip also has thorns, but is also rich in vitamin C and other useful microelements.

The name “rose hips” is used for wild or unmodified rose species. In Russia today there are up to 100 species of rose hips, and not all of them are equally useful, so some of them are used for decorative purposes. Under natural conditions, wild roses grow on mountain slopes, in river valleys, and in fields there are several dozen varieties of the plant. Unpretentious and cold-resistant ornamental rose hips can often be seen as hedges in country houses. Certain types of wild rose are used to make jam, jam and candied fruits.

The healing properties of rose hips have been known since ancient times. Almost all parts of rose hips are used for medicinal and preventive purposes, but the fruits are considered the most useful. This is explained by the high content of vitamin C in them; its concentration here is higher than in black currants and lemon. Wild rose fruits also boast a variety of biologically active substances.

The most popular among medicinal types of rose hips is traditionally considered to be May rose hips. The fruits of needle, Dahur, Kokand, small-flowered rose hips and some other plant species are also used for medicinal purposes.

"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountain is going home; that wildness is necessity; that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life"

This town is where one my grandparents are from, and, where they are laid to rest.

I have visited a grouse lek several times this spring to photograph their displays, challenges, and battles. The photos make it look like non-stop action, but in reality they spend much of the time staring each other down and waiting for some unknown signal to begin their distinctive drumming and dancing.

I've remained in my car for most of this time. It's quite rare to find a lek located right beside the road. This creates a slightly downward shooting angle, not too noticeable when using a long lens, and in fact useful because it allows a view over the tall, bunched grass. One morning, though, I decided to try slipping out of my vehicle - in full view - for some eye level shots. I did so very slowly, until I was lying flat on the ground beside my car. No grouse flew off the lek. Some, including the grouse seen here, even approached me. When it ruffled those feathers and head comb, while facing into the light, I managed this intimate, eye level portrait.

Poon Hill is a foothill of Annapurna Massif at 3,210m. It is a famous viewpoint of Himalayas located on the border between Kaski and Myagdi districts. It is a less-than-one-hour walk from Ghorepani that is part of Annapurna Circuit.

The tower is useful if you want to take photos of Himalayas with people on the hilltop (^_^;) Otherwise, ground level view is sufficiently spectacular.

Behind the scenes on that last time-lapse (flic.kr/p/GUxvt7). Lots of passers-by looked at me curiously but no one stopped to chat about photography techniques, which sometimes happens. The BU bridge has a nice view but it's not ideal for timelapses - the constant traffic meant the bridge vibrated enough to preclude stacking the frames, and also the traffic noise took away from the peacefulness of the sunset. I'll have to find another spot to try next.

This is my iPhone 6s running the app Lapse-It Pro, held by a Joby Gorillapod (with magnetic feet), and plugged into a Fluxmob Bolt battery pack. Oh and the wrist strap, not in use here but often useful when leaning over water, is a Petite Loop.

Disclaimer: No one gave me any free iPhone/photography accessories to try out in exchange for my unbiased review but if anyone wants to start doing that I am open to the idea ;-)

Not sure what this old piece of equipment is, but it seems safe to say that its useful life has expired.
