White are the far-off hills
And white the fading forests grow
The wind dies out amongst the tides
And denser still the snow
A gathering weight on roof and tree
Falls down scarce audibly
The meadows and far-sheeted streams
Lie still without a sound
Like some soft minister of dreams
The snowfall hoods me around
In wood and water, earth and air
A silence is everywhere
Save when at lonely spells
Some farmer's sleigh is urged on
With rustling runner and sharp bells
Swings by me and is gone
Or from the empty waste I hear
A sound remote and clear
The barking of a dog
To cattle, is sharply pued
Borne, echoing from some wayside stall
Or barnyard far afield
Then all is silent and the snow
Falls settling soft and slow
The evening deepens and the grey
Folds closer around sky
The world seems so shrouded, so far away
Its noises sleep, and I
As secret as yon buried stream
Plod dumbly on and dream

Banded Rail ( Rallus phillipensis). A gentle engaging little bird that inhabits estuarine habits sadly now declining due to human encroachment and predation.
Never an easy species to photograph, yet If one sits quietly resisting the urge to fidget or attend to that persistent itch often it will come within shooting distance.
Unable to obtain one or two at most images with the Nikon D800, I purchased a D810 a wonderfully quiet camera..
Sadly the new fancy D850 is a " Clacker" not a cracker...
The seventh skein of geese to fly over on this particular mornings walk. Oh and to save you the bother, there's a 134 of them...!

Since their founding, the Marble Sisters had only one task: to watch the archives. They spent every day caring for the scrolls; returning borrowed texts, replacing fragments too torn or faded to understand, and, every once in a while, creating new manuscripts to join the ranks of the endless rows in their vast library. Although the sisters were able to achieve great knowledge and wisdom thanks to the scrolls, they received a curse as well: a hunger, a never-ceasing addiction for more knowledge. This drove most of the sisters to madness, however, those who managed to control their urge gained more than anyone could possibly imagine...

Built for Brickscalibur in the 12x12 vignette category.
I decided to build this as my entry for the 12x12 category after I was inspired by some concept art for the wheel of time Amazon show. I figured I'd venture beyond libraries and books and take my chances with some scrolls instead. Let me know what you think!
Feedback is always appreciated,
Happy Building!
Amerrissage pas vraiment en douceur... elle a du se rater quelques part... ou alors pressée de se poser pour ne rien rater du pain jeté par des passants :-)

As we drove back from Matanuska Glacier, we had to keep our flight time in mind, making it a challenging task. Every turn presented us with breathtaking views, and I had to resist the urge to stop at every opportunity. Despite my commitment to staying on schedule, I couldn't pass up a few locations where the scenery was particularly striking. One such place featured a stunning mountain peak that had an imposing presence, making it impossible to ignore. I’ve always had a fondness for mountain peaks that resemble the ones I used to sketch as a child. The Matanuska River wound its way past the peak, providing a beautiful leading line, while the winding road added a sense of scale to the size of this magnificent mountain.
This black-crowned night heron would occasionally untuck his head from his breast (see first comment) and glare as if urging me to move along.
If I had the sound track, I would urge you to turn down the volume. I did not know Otis had this in him. He is the most docile cat we have.
I've searched the next five images for clues. Otis stays planted in all five, but the dynamics change...
Was Otis protecting Camille? Was it the force of the surprise when he looked up and spotted Gracie Jo that caused this strong reaction? I don't think I've even heard Otis hiss before...
Bathed in gorgeous afternoon sun, UP Train PJCKC 31 arrives from Jefferson City, MO behind Big Boy 4014 on the KCT East-West Corridor on Main Track 4 at Penn Avenue. From here the 4-8-8-4 will double its train into Kansas City Union Station Exhibition Tracks 27 and 28 to end today's leg of "The Big Boy Tour 2021", being operated in conjunction with the Missouri State Bicentennial.
Despite the heat, thousands have come out to greet the train along the route on its arrival, and this is the first steam locomotive to arrive at Union Station in decent afternoon light with this favorable angle for over 15 years, so I decided to come here despite the urge to try something out in the trench on the KCT.
It's hard to quantify the number of people that turned out along Union Pacific track the past few weeks to see this spectacle, but as I always say, everyone is a railfan on steam engine day in their town.

When the walls of your world crumble and the ground beneath your feet trembles with uncertainty, fix your gaze upon the expanse beyond. In the midst of encroaching darkness, remember that the horizon, though distant, harbours a light that refuses to be extinguished. It is the promise of dawn beyond the night, a beacon of resilience that whispers, even in the face of colossal challenges, there is a way forward—a path illuminated by the indomitable spirit within, urging you to rise and meet the sunrise of a new beginning.

Autumn wakes the need for darker atmosphere so I had an urge to create this photo. :) It was created by blending two photos together.

With the 4 mile jog in the morning, after lunch I was starting to feel comfortably dozy as the wind blew rain against the bay window. So what sudden urge possessed me to should jump up from the recliner and bundle my camera’s into the car and pop down to the cliffs. This I wondered as I sat in the passenger seat of the car having already been driven back by the driving drizzle getting only 10 metres from the car.
This afternoons sunset.

Varanasi (India) In October 2018 I spent a month immersed in the slums of Varanasi. My mission was to carry out -volunteer- a report on "Action Bénarès", a small non-governmental organization (NGO). Report which resulted in early 2020 by the publication of a Book entitled "Action Bénarès: pour l'amour des untouchables", all of the sales of which are donated in full to the association.
This small NGO was created in 1974 by a French doctor, Bernard-Yves Sabot. Since then, every day a team of 7 Indian caregivers through the streets of Vanarasi the slum and the leprosarium to provide free medical assistance Aix untouchable and all those who do not have the means to have a health monitoring.
This series of three photos was taken in the slum of La Kharbuza, located behind the central station of Varanasi.
A table whose legs were sawed a piece of linoleum as a surgical drape and an old wooden bench for patients ... It is here and with this recovery equipment that are cared for free each month, several hundred people without resources.
This building, open to all winds, was named the “Pappu clinic” by the inhabitants of the slum. Pappu, (in the background in the photo) is the head of the healthcare team who was trained in emergency care, when he was only a teenager, by the "French doctor". Since his death there about ten years, a handful of volunteers are continuing action.
Perhaps some knowledgeable soul will be able to tell me exactly what type of funghi is in this snap taken recently in the Waggoners Wells National Trust reserve. I fought the urge to take a couple home for my supper!
I've been so sick with these germs for way too long- Dr says it's bronchitis and a sinus infection. The ER run was a bad reaction to an antibiotic that was practically toxic to me, that I never knew I would react to.
Even so, of COURSE I painted last week! I urged family onward in the art quest! So these are my offerings- Bicycle 1 is the first one I did- more careful, albeit paler. I thought I liked it. Until I did Bicycle 2- which was done because I had leftover paints, and in my book, well, that is just wasteful, so I did a speed painting- much more vibrant to me, much more essence of bicycle!
(I hope to post a family collage soon of this work)
