The Polar Vantage V2 sport watch has an impressive arsenal of LED's and photodetectors placed in between, constituting an array of PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensors. The different wavelengths (colors) allow the detection of blood flow at different depths and for most skin types, before a highly optimized algorithm combines and untangles all those signals and figures out how fast your heart beats. Oh, and this has to run on a single battery charge for about a week... 😊
Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied
I didn't know him and I didn't know me
Cloud nine was always out of reach
Now I remember what it feels like to fly
You give me butterflies

Father Mother Birther and Breath of All
create a space inside of us
and fill it with Your Presence
let Oneness now prevail
Your one desire then flows through our's
as energy fills all form
give us this day our physical and spiritual nourishment
and untangle the knots of error that bind us
as we release others
don't let appearances make us forgetful of our Source
but free us to act appropriately
for age to age from You flow the glorious harmonies of life
may these words be fertile ground from which our future grows
amen and amen

This guy spent more time trying to get his line untangled from the willows than he did fishing. I suppose there are worse places to get hung up. I couldn't get over how blue the sky was last weekend. My favorite color!

I just hope this swan was able to untangle itself !!! One of the many swans on the Marine Lake Southport.
I grabbed this photo with my cell phone last April, as it was was the only photo-taking device I had on me when I also had this bird on me. I was hearing some shuffling sounds outside the house and went onto the patio to investigate. This little guy (a male house finch) had gotten himself stuck right near the house (it's difficult to describe how he was stuck, so take my word for it), so I went to free him. I gently untangled him, and he sat on my hand for a few minutes, sort of in a daze. He eventually flew up into the apricot tree above us, where he sat for another few minutes, getting his bearings, before ultimately flying away, seemingly doing OK.

I didn't wanna stay the same
I didn't wanna hear the change walk in
I didn't wanna hurt you and
It's always gonna start and end
With, "I didn't want pain", with, "I was afraid"
With, "I didn't want pain", with, "I was afraid"

And breaking this open meant starting a riot

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.
May you be so fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you.
And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude 🙏

May this time of the year give you joy! I just want to get these Christmas lights untangled. It will be a Christmas miracle
This will be interesting. My computer has more drive than I do. The trouble is very much like the man with two watches. You see, the man with one watch always knows what time it is. The man with two is never sure. Well, I am now at a point where I don't know which of the "To Be Posted" folders is the one that's up to date. Five more days before I get an expert in to untangle the works of another "expert." (Not me! I can't even untangle all the wires that have somehow spontaneously combusted and multiplied without parents under my desk!)
Having nothing better to do than to correct all the mistakes the last time I went to the Garden, I thought I'd better get over there while all the flowers that piqued my interest yesterday were still in bloom and that I could certainly improve.
One of the first plants that Ruth Bancroft hybridized was from this Alogonye, and this plant was from the 70s I believe. This "shrub" is now 18 feet tall and with a "branch spread" of another 15 feet, and every inch covered with three to four inch lavender flowers! It is gorgeous. (I noted this last year during my first visit in April, and knew I'd be back for more.
Alyogyne huegelii is a flowering plant found in the Southwest botanical province of Western Australia, extending along its entire coastline. A large flowered shrub, the species favours the sands of coastal shrublands and heath.
The large flower, highly variable in colour, is similar to that of Hibiscus. It was previously placed in that genus, and is commonly named lilac hibiscus and blue hibiscus. It is widely cultivated as a flowering plant for the garden. In my album of wildflowers, you will find that I also referred to this as the "Lilac Hybiscus."
Anyway, this was a good way to start my second year at RBG. It's almost that time when I'll have to duplicate some species which never bothered me when I was photographing birds.

Moody and dark, Glencoe at its finest.
No map ever marked their home, and no census ever listed their names. But in the hidden folds of Glencoe’s misty glens, the Skeg family endured—quiet, unseen, and ever watchful.
The Skegs had lived in the highlands longer than the sheep and nearly as long as the stones. They were a peculiar clan—tall as saplings, with soot-black hair and eyes the colour of frozen lochs. Stories about them trickled through village whispers: how they could vanish in broad daylight, how no one had seen them since the old railway closed, how their house walked on stilts when the moon was full.
Tourists never found them, though some swore they’d caught a glimpse—figures in the fog, or laughter echoing from impossible cliffs. The locals, meanwhile, had learned not to look. Not out of fear, but respect. The Skegs had their own ways, old ways, tied to the land in knots no one else could untangle.
One August evening, a hiker named Maisie Blair strayed off the trail during a storm. The sky snarled and the wind howled through the glen like an angry ghost. Drenched and disoriented, she stumbled into a thicket and blacked out.
She awoke in a dry bed inside a small stone hut. There was firelight and the smell of heather tea. A young man with dark eyes offered her a steaming cup.
“You found the Skegs,” he said simply.
Maisie blinked. “But… you’re a myth.”
He smiled faintly. “Then this must be a dream.”
When she woke again, she was back by the trailhead, dry and unharmed, with no sign of any hut, family, or footprints. In her pocket was a single heather blossom, still warm.
Back in the village, she told her tale. The old folks nodded, unsurprised.
“The Skegs are real,” one said, sipping her whisky. “But they only let you see them if they want to be seen.”
And in the silent glens of Glencoe, where the mist moves like memory, the Skeg family remains—watching, waiting, hidden in plain sight.
Just as they always have.
It’s good to feel you are close to me in the night, love,
invisible in your sleep, intently nocturnal,
while I untangle my worries
as if they were twisted nets.
Withdrawn, your heart sails through dream,
but your body, relinquished so, breathes
seeking me without seeing me perfecting my dream
like a plant that seeds itself in the dark.
Rising, you will be that other, alive in the dawn,
but from the frontiers lost in the night,
from the presence and the absence where we meet ourselves,
something remains, drawing us into the light of life
as if the sign of the shadows had sealed
its secret creatures with flame.

On my third day, I'm jolted awake by a chorus of honking horns—there's a massive traffic jam right below my window. I look out and see no way out of the mess. It's a classic case of the snake eating its own tail. I stand there for a while, trying to figure out if any car could possibly make a move to untangle the chaos. I'd already seen signs of Istanbul’s legendary traffic in the previous days. With 16 million residents and a terrain shaped by hills, bridges and straits, getting around is a heroic feat. And that’s without counting the millions of visitors.
He may not look it here, but! Honest, Its Alive! This is Oscar, our 16 year old Russian Blue look alike.
We put the nets
Tangalle (Sri Lanka) - The sky is gray this morning over the fishing port of Tangalle. The light will heat up soon, but I don't know when I take this photo, regretting that the ambient colorimetry is not more favorable. The scene is interesting but the atmosphere is bland.
When I framed this scene, quietly, without hurrying, the sailor on the left was entirely in my composition. Just as I was about to trigger, he pulled back in a quick and elegant movement to try to untangle the net. I was not satisfied because I had not been reactive enough to anticipate.
After some thought, I like this rather rhythmic photo. Although I think a black and white print would have been more suitable. But I think if you shoot in black and white, it's when you shoot, not to catch a less satisfying color version. I accept this choice.
As part of the street art festival "Murs Grands Ouverts" organized for the 20th anniversary of the Paliss'art operation, a monumental mural has been created in the new Paradis Express district, in full development on the Guillemins esplanade. Work of the British artist PREF, it brilliantly completes the artistic catalog of the Paliss'art operation.
Pref's unique typographic paintings are recognized worldwide. This artist is an explorer of words and phrases. He plays with the letters by contorting them and weaving them, imposing on us an exercise in deciphering, untangling words and detecting their message.
"Shake Hands" "Serrer la main" unfolds before our eyes in this woven style and in a trompe l'oeil effect, emerging from the wall. This phrase, which evokes collaboration, any relationship that begins and ends with a handshake, also symbolizes the "fabric" of our society, the foundations of our culture.
A few steps from the Guillemins station, a brilliant, audacious and colorful fresco which immediately announces a gesture of friendship and welcome for anyone arriving in Liège.
Neighboring the Design Station, it dialogues in a relevant way with the sensitivities and aesthetics of design, while reflecting its shimmering colors in the windows of the building that houses it.
The RTC in Edmonton is busy untangling the Dundas Sub as a 5 train meet is in the midst of occurring at Paris Junction. CN A435, M301, M382 (pictured), VIA 78, and another eastbound are all either at Paris or are nearing it. This particular day seemed much busier than usual with multiple meets happening at Paris within Golden Hour. I'm sure the beers tasted pretty good for the RTC after their shift that evening.

As city lights painted the evening canvas, Detective Olivia Wells found herself on a balcony, immersed in the complexities of the case. Stepping into the cool night air, she sought inspiration under the urban glow.
The hum of the metropolis served as a backdrop to Olivia's contemplation of the evidence. With determined eyes, she scanned the city, yearning for a breakthrough. Classical architecture whispered tales of secrets, and a sudden insight struck her. The city's elegant dance held the key to the mystery.
Armed with newfound clarity, Olivia withdrew from the balcony, poised to untangle the enigma. The blend of tradition and innovation mirrored her approach. Sleuthing in style, Detective Olivia Wells embarked on the next chapter of her nocturnal urban quest.
Talking till we notice it's 2am...
Who ever knew a moment like this would ever come again.
I was just coastin', never really goin' anywhere
Caught up in a web
I was gettin' kind of used to stayin' there
And out of the blue
I fell for you
Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down
Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown
Untangled all the strings 'round my wings that were tied
I didn't know him and I didn't know me
Cloud nine was always out of reach
Now I remember what it feels like to fly
You give me butterflies
Kiss full of color, makes me wonder where you've always been
I was hiding in doubt 'til you brought me out of my chrysalis
And I came out new
All because of you
Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down
Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown
Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied
I didn't know him and I didn't know me
Cloud nine was always out of reach
Now I remember what it feels like to fly
You give me butterflies
Yeah, you give me butterflies
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Mm, mm
Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down
You're takin' my hand, 'stead of takin' my crown
Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied
I didn't know him and I didn't know me
Cloud nine was always out of reach
Now I remember what it feels like to fly
You give me butterflies
Mm, mm, mm
You give me butterflies

The 11/29/21 Macro Mondays theme is Treasured.
I got this Pflueger Supreme fishing reel for my 13th birthday in 1947. It had no drag other than my thumb on the spool when I threw a cast, no free spool (the handles spun when I cast with it); but 74 years ago it represented advanced technology, and I raised havoc with the local pickerel population in the ponds near our home in Massachusetts. I also became very adept at untangling some pretty nasty backlashes☺. A true treasure, if there ever was one.
The distance between the handles is 2¾ inches
Embers in the ashtray glow like memories that won't let go
I'm out here trying to get untangled
In the darkness on the edge of town
A little lost, a little found
Waiting on a call from an angel

"Hello Father Christmas, Hello penguin" Merlin says while looking rather puzzled at the Penguin and thinking to himself why is there a Penguin at the Noth Pole.
"Hello Merlin" replies Father Christmas "I would like "you to meet Percy he's in charge of marketing at our South Pole division"
"Hello Merlin" says Percy "it's so lovely to meet you, what have you got there?".
Merlin looks at the delicious looking roast Turkey that Mrs Christmas asked him to fetch so that she could make some sandwiches and then looked at Percy "uhhh nothing important"
"It's not fish is it, I love fish they are so tasty" said Percy, "no it's not" replied Merlin. Percy becomes uninterested in the turkey.
"Have you seen Rudolph?" asks Father Christmas, "no I haven't" says Merlin.
"I thought he would like to take Percy home and visit the south Pole, but I'll get Dasher to take you home instead, come along with me Percy to the stables, and Merlin let Rudolph know I am looking for him if you see him" says Father Christmas,
"I will" says Merlin "it was very nice to meet you Percy" "You too" responds Percy. Father Christmas takes Percy to Dasher so that he can be flown home and Merlin delivers the roast Turkey to Mary Christmas.
Merlin decides to go looking for Rudolph and he spots this faint glow of lights almost like there is a Christmas Tree in the distance, he walks towards the glow of lights until they become brighter and brighter and suddenly he comes across Rudolph.
"My goodness Rudolph, what has happened to you, you look like you fell in a box of Christmas lights and came out all tangled up" Just before Rudolph could reply Merlin hears giggling and then suddenly out of nowhere appeared the elves Ella and Elvis.
"We make Rudolph pretty" says Ella. "We make Rudolph super bright" says Elvis. Rudolph spoke and said "That might be very well but I can't move."
Next they all heard the familiar sound of "HoHoHo" approaching.
"Don't tell Father Christmas what we did, we don't want to be on his naughty list" says the elves.
Rudolph tells the elves "if I don't tell the truth, I'll be on his naughty list, you shouldn't tell untruths to Father Christmas" but the elves had disappeared.
"HoHoHo there you are Rudolph, you look like you fell into a box of Christmas Tree lights. says Father Christmas.
"That's what I told him" says Merlin and then Merlin and Father Christmas start to laugh.
"Come out Ella and Elvis" calls Father Christmas,
"How did you know" says two elfish voices in unison.
"HoHoHo, I'm Father Christmas I know everything, now come out and untangle Rudolph and then we can all go inside and have some lovely roast turkey sandwiches,
"Your'e not mad" said the elves, "No" replies Father Christmas "but it does make me think of a new song"
Father Christmas begins to sing "Rudoph the red nosed reindeer, fell into a box of Christmas lights, Father Christmas couldn't find him because Rudolph looked such a funny sight, HoHoHo"
The Sacred Dance for Life
I sometimes forget that
I was created for joy
My mind is too busy
My heart is too heavy
Heavy for me to remember
that I have been
called to dance
the sacred dance for life
I was created to smile
to love
to be lifted up
and lift others up
O sacred one
Untangle my feet
from all that ensnares
Free my soul
That we might
Dance
and that our dancing
might be contagious.
Poem by Hafiz 🙏
Not all iceplants are created equal, but all have a root and stem system that is bound to trip you up if you're not careful. I think all ice plants are native to Africa or South Africa, and the diversity of colors and beauty of the daisy-like flowers draws me to them even though I have tripped and fallen a number of times - embarrassing, but not damaging - at the patched near the Carquinez Straits where I've done my shorebird, song sparrow, and sweat bee hunt for the past 16 years.
Malephora crocea is a species of flowering plant in the ice plant family known by the common name coppery mesemb and red ice plant. It is native to Africa (esp. South Africa) and it is grown in many other places as an ornamental plant and a groundcover. In California and Baja California this is an introduced species and often a noxious weed in coastal habitat such as beaches and bluffs. It is planted along highways in California and in Arizona it is utilized in landscaping for its low water needs and tolerance of sun. It has been recommended as a groundcover in areas prone to wildfire in southern California due to its low flammability.
It is during periods of our 100° plus weather that ice plant really shines. It's more than tolerant of heat and drought, but it has been known to produce a fire break when wildfires break out all over Calfiornia (like now).
For those wondering, we lost power for ten minutes and that was at 11 last night when it did no "harm." (Funny: at close to midnight, we received a phone call - we still have two hard wired phones - stating that the proposed brown-outs had been cancelled. Now who calls anyone at midnight to tell them that nothings going to happen! (Footnote's footnote: I could barely move yesterday with a literal painfully stiff neck. At 8 PM, all of a sudden, it just plain disappeared. Poof! At 3 AM, btw, it is now 85°. Maybe my neck untangled in the heat. We're not through yet as the hot weather will continue. September is, btw, one of our hottest months, and the ice plant thrives.)
Kon Tum (Vietnam) – When there isn't much to photograph, there are two places I go. In the slums or on the banks of a river. In Kon Tum, there are no deprived neighborhoods. If there is one, I didn't find it. There is a river, the Dak Bla. The landscape wasn't unpleasant, without being extraordinary, as I had read. On the other hand, after a hot day, the late afternoon light was quite photogenic. All that remained was to find a human presence to enliven the scene I was about to capture. I had to walk up the bank towards the east for a good ten minutes before coming across this family. The man was trying to untangle his cast net to catch microscopic fish.
We escape reality not to reject it, but to breathe within it. In the rush of obligations and noise, we seek refuge—whether in art, music, nature, or quiet moments that slow time. These escapes offer clarity, untangling thoughts and easing burdens, reminding us that life is more than demands.
Stepping away renews us, giving perspective and space to dream. Reality Escape is the bridge between exhaustion and restoration, where the weight of the world dissolves, if only for a moment. In that pause, we rediscover who we truly are.
