I was just coastin', never really goin' anywhere

Caught up in a web

I was gettin' kind of used to stayin' there

And out of the blue

I fell for you

Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down

Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown

Untangled all the strings 'round my wings that were tied

I didn't know him and I didn't know me

Cloud nine was always out of reach

Now I remember what it feels like to fly

You give me butterflies

Kiss full of color, makes me wonder where you've always been

I was hiding in doubt 'til you brought me out of my chrysalis

And I came out new

All because of you

Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down

Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown

Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied

I didn't know him and I didn't know me

Cloud nine was always out of reach

Now I remember what it feels like to fly

You give me butterflies

Yeah, you give me butterflies

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Mm, mm

Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down

You're takin' my hand, 'stead of takin' my crown

Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied

Lodge Lake, Pacific Crest Trail, Washington

Lodge Lake lies along the Pacific Crest Trail near Snoqualmie Pass. (I saw about a dozen northbound PCT thru hikers on the trail today and had the opportunity to chat with a few of them, which I always enjoy.)

Though it was dry at home the rain began to fall shortly before I reached the trailhead, but the clouds and the wet suited my mood today and it has been a quite awhile since I hiked in the rain, so I donned my waterproof jacket and inhaled the satisfying scent of rain dampened forest.

The lake was draped in fog today and the surrounding mountains stayed hidden in the clouds. But the surrounding foliage was lush and green and every once in awhile some glimmers of light would filter through the mist. Those glimmers alternated with wind and rain however, so I was glad I had brought a hat, gloves, and an extra fleece layer as it got quite chilly sitting by the lake.

This time of late summer is a bit of a lull in the hiking season as the alpine wildflower meadows are fading and the bright colors of fall have not yet started to show. And as has become the sad reality of summer the last few years, wildfires and smoke make many trails inaccessible or inadvisable.

But sometimes, a short hike to a small lake and the chance to sit in silence and solitude with the forest and the (invisible) mountains is enough to untangle some of the threads in one’s mind and fill one’s soul.

If I untangle them, who does catch me?

Teď zbývá jedno, sešiju je nití

Skies are crying, I am watching

Catching teardrops in my hands

Only silence as it's ending

Like we never had a chance

Do you have to make me feel like

There's nothing left of me

You can take everything I have

You can break everything I am

Like I'm made of glass

Like I'm made of paper

Go on and try to tear me down

I will be rising from the ground

Like a skyscraper

Like a skyscraper

As the smoke clears, I awaken

And untangle you from me

Would it make you feel better

To watch me while I bleed?

All my windows still are broken

But I'm standing on my feet

Gardena German retractable water hose reel makes life much neater,

I bought one 4 years ago for the back garden, I was so impressed I purchased another last year, if you have one I have a suggestion, as the hose retracts wrap a cloth around the hose that will clean all the debris instead going in the real.

No more straggling to untangle hoses, it is worth the money I spend.

The Cardabelle, also known as the Acanthus-leaved Carline, the Caussenard shepherds, who raised sheep, picked it for its edible heart and used the thorny leaves to untangle or card the wool of their flocks.

Once dried, the cardabelle is said to be a good luck charm that one gladly hangs on the door of one's home. The Larzac breeders called it "the sun of herbs". They would nail it to the entrances of barns and stables, so that it would watch over the animals!

Well, yes! Here in The Netherlands we've gone again into a strict Covid-19 lockdown until mid-January. So everything except for grocery stores and the like is off-limits. That includes the Hortus Botanicus. This'll be my last posting from the Hortus until the lockdown opens up again...

The photo shows yellow-haired (flavicoma) Schaueria from Brazil, named for Johannes Conrad Schauer (1813-1948). In the early-1830s he worked as a botanist in Wrocław, Poland, where he befriended Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck (1776-1858) who in 1838 named Schaueria for him.

There's been some confusion as to the precise name of our plant but it was resolved by Nicholas Edward Brown (1849-1934) in The Gardeners' Chronicle n.s. 19 (1883), p.14, who untangles the Justicia-Schaueria mess.

I thought I'd put in the inset to show the pistil and stamens. The long pistil guards against self-fertilisation.

"Quick Mom, before they catch us!"

Rather odd activity spotted at Waterton's Red Rock Canyon parking lot. This bighorn sheep lamb appears to be on the alert for the van's owner while Mama checks out it's rear end. The very courteous Warden (i.e. Ranger, thanks James) said this is actually a real nuisance: the sheep lick the chemicals off the outsides of the catalytic converters, particularly looking for any salts. Problem is they sometimes get their horns stuck while doing so, which is dangerous for both the animal and vehicle. The Rangers have to gently untangle them while the sheep panics and thrashes around. This can be dangerous for the Wardens as well.

She did get out by herself, wasn't harmed.

The lamb seemed relieved and appreciated having her attention again.

Hope your weekend is off to a wonderful start!

Tales (or is it tails) of woe. Spotted what I thought would be a composition as I drove down what serves as a major highway in this part of the world, so I pulled off into a boreen to grab my shot. Up the boreen, I spotted a deer -- a young buck, in fact, who stood, staring at me. He tried to run, but one leg was fouled in a downed wire fence. Should I try and rescue the fellow? Maybe there was a farmer farther up who could help... so I throttled the car past our trapped friend, and observed a sign: "Tourmakeady Gun Club". Oh boy... they'll be wanting to put a bullet right between Bambi's newly sprouting horns... Horns that were the perfect size to gouge my heart out, should he so choose. But, hell, I've got to see if I can untangle him somehow, right? So I park and cautiously approach, and he's not having it... flailing wildly about, trying to escape from me... he bolts away, trips himself in the wire, flips backward end over end, and clunks his head on the road with a sound akin to a ripe watermelon. But, his acrobatics somehow set him free, and in a flash he was gone, without so much as a thank you to your man Fergal. Nothing to do now but go back to the car, and this image was taken where I'd parked up. Great light, a rusty gate, and the farmer's friend, the ever adaptable wooden pallet. Perfect. And the big bonus, my chest was still intact. As for the composition that started it all? Turned out to have been unsuitable. So it goes.

My son came across two eagles on his way home from work. They got tangled together and fell out of the sky. Luckily they did not land on the road. They struggled to get apart but seemed to be tangled pretty good. The wildlife centre advised to flap his coat near them and they should then untangle. Yup it worked, the flew away. My Son did a great job securing the area, seeking assistance and then helping untangling them.

Many thanks for Victoria ECOM for sourcing who we needed to contact and the wildlife centre for the coaching.

A herd of bighorn sheep near Garden of the Gods was relocated Tuesday by Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff — a project two years in the making.

Parks and Wildlife staff dropped a 70-by-70-foot net over nearly two dozen bighorn sheep they had lured with apple pulp. In the 90 minutes that followed, the team blindfolded and restricted the legs of the sheep as they untangled them. The team then sedated them and assessed their health while searching for disease. Each sheep received an ear tag, and some were given transmitting collars before they were loaded into a trailer for shipment to Beaver Creek State Wildlife Area near Penrose, officials said in a news release.

~~The three very wise Santa Minds made their decisions last night.

First of all, the famous French private detective 'Monsieur L'Inspector' has been appointed with immediate effect to start the investigation into the missing reindeer.

Besides being a fashionable Santa Claus, always dressed in the latest fashion, he also has special skills: he can read fiber optic cables.

We see him at work here and wish him good luck. Hopefully he can untangle the problem…….to be continued (5)~~~

I think it's time for another bird, an oldie showing mistakes I made early and often. It was 11 years ago, and I was just "getting a feel for the SX20, Canon's second Powershot iteration, and 'birding'." And, I was doing fairly well, but when I look back I had a tendency to center my subjects and not leave enough space for a better composition. Oh, I didn't do it all the time, but enough so that today it bothers me that I can't improve on an image like this one. (Just like I used to tell my barber when I had hair ... and a barber ... leave a little on the upper left.)

In this case, I was lucky. I went back to that very spot in 2018, the Old Borges Ranch fam ily home, and sure enough, this tree branch was still a favorite with Juncos and Golden-crowned sparrows. (Mourning Doves, woodpeckers, and raptors stayed clear. Too bad. I'd love to have gotten more of all three.)

Anyway, the head is darker and the chestnut color a bit deeper, but you could swear it was the same bird. And, I left enough room to crop if necessary. Still, after 2015, I started leaving suffcient space in the direction that my subject was looking, and my mistakes are fewer. Fortunately, I did not get into the habit of shooting everything close when in 2014, I bought the SX50 with a tremendous range.
