Shot taken while wandering about Great Yarmouth in March 2024.
This is one of UK’s last few surviving “Gasometers”, which were renamed by British Gas to “Gas Holders” which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
There is a wealth of information on gasometers/gas holders on the internet, and are a fascinating subject for anyone.
The trip was just a long weekend to walk around, and explore Great Yarmouth, get some fresh air, sunlight, and merely unplug for a few days. I took two different cameras, a Fujifilm X100F which has a fixed 23mm lens and an X-Pro2 with a 18mm pancake lens. It was lovely walking around with a compact camera in a small bag, keeping it simple.
In short, we found it a wonderful place, quite chilled in fact, with an old-world vibe, and in the same moment, quite modern and very clean. One to go back to later in the year.

Can Canon 6D truly unplug to deliver those charming whistle among competitive rivals? So far, some relevant mighty headlines free echo had been spreading on the common street with favoritism praise by satisfy user .. but how true it is????
Practically me, no insight technical metrology though , summarise to drill on the interesting highlight of ISO aspect with down to earth unbiased information as I own both the Canon 5d2 n 6D n other canon latest camera.
Here, pushing n testing some of the unusual limit of raising ISO 800 beside the normal ISO 100 with just single count exposure during my night landscape shot ! It seem to picking up some minor dark shadow noise, I don't really see any different up to this point even with my old 5Dmark2. The following iSo may interest more when u start pumping up, differences may appear especially those attempt longer exposure at night with slight struggle noise from ISO2000-3200 when call in. However, 6D exhibit much acceptable cleaner n finer color noise pick up by our common visible eye, when kick harder into ISO3200-6400 region, it slowly turn sucks for my personal limitation preference if pro-longe exposure more than 20s would briefly terrify an image during dark or dimly lit condition, but , still a useful iso helper during good daylight combat to gain for faster shutter speed by day with very less worry.
For ISO 6400 onwards, noise condition varies much with canon top of the line good quality glass that able to shot at widest end. However, a normal third party lens will show it true color, the forbidden ugly yucky noise start rising from f4 onwards.
Ignore the 250,000 ISO. Chances of other lower ISO is mere nonsense or gimmick from major popular website guru-reviewers who testify as still usable, a skeptical commercial tactic or been undertable compensated for self benefit reason to claim positive remarks had screw up many earger buyer into wrong believed.
Final verdict appear that, not really so desirable once after the holy mark iso 3200. Don't fall into the legendary rumors of it high capability of sweet superb ISO terminology , any attempt above that, it simply ruin your image.. Canon's yet need indepth technical improvement with such technology here. Unless people can really afford high end wide opening f1.2 super fast lens pair with such heavenly spec advance camera. If not, forget about it high ISO fantasy at the moment. Focusing was average as less miss n hit continue depend on combination skill during servo tracking mode. Be amaze with the primitive ONe Shot mode. A killer keeper with fantastic result at most time. Overall Color display is towards nice warmer vivid tone, however, exposure may tend to lean on brighter side but acceptable unless u take the effort to manual compensate -2/3 stop depend on what u r metering at.
Congratulate those who're still holding on their 5DMark2, please continue to enjoy the fundamental robust mechanism of fullframe though some may feel somehow back dated but rest assure the substential reliable engineering n technology did proven numerous awards recognition winning shot taken by it predecessor without doubt praise by the world.
I see little trade off for those preparing giving up their mark2. With Canon 6D paper, U may acquire what today's Canon intelligent imaging digi 5+ processor inside with the ability climb up to +3 ev that canon claim able to shot at moon light condition but, but ... remember not a guarantee 100% token it will absolutely strike during critical precious moment that make u hate their promise, I'm seriously afraid photographers may loss more of other essential function what ur 5d2 previously had are awefully missing from 6D.
Last words, keep ur 5 D2 n continue shooting. I'm feeling regret at some point .
Good morning everyone and I hope you had a nice weekend. Just a single posting on this Butterfly Monday of a Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor) I stumbled upon resting on Jewelweed one morning.
Although taken in 2010, don't believe the "date taken" posted in the upper right. For some reason when I saved this in the PNG format it changed the date and lost some of the pertinent EXIF data, except for the focal length. 70mm in case you're wondering, but I'm questioning whether that is correct as I very rarely get that close to a butterfly to photograph one.
I normally don't like to post and run, but Mother Nature is being unkind this morning with a line of thunderstorms moving through the area...hence the reason for only a single pic. So it's best I get offline and unplug the computer until the bad weather passes.

I think I have FINALLY given in to the belief the "Photo-Gods" are testing me. Why? Because Every DARN day as I am driving home there is a GREAT sunset unfolding all around me, but come the weekend...NOTHING! ;-)~
I haven't been shooting much as I am spending a lot of time in the gym trying to get back into shape..yes, round is a shape, but I am tired of that one. LOL!
I am enjoying peeking at all of the wonderful images I have been seeing from my 'Contacts', and if I favorite any w/o commenting it is just my way of saying "Hi" as I am probably just too brain dead to comment. I am trying to "unplug" during the week at home because I frankly just don't have the time to put into Flickr during the weeknights. So come the weekend when I DO get some time I will make every effort to say hello more thoughtfully.

While hiking, I have been seeing a growing number of people taking only a brief view of the surroundings and then burying themselves in their electronic devices. This ongoing project highlights the need to re-examine our need to unplug and just enjoy the beauty of this world.

Allure of the Seas - Solarium
Hello everyone,
As many of you may have noticed, last week I was "disconnected" because I was on a family cruise on Royal Carribean's Allure of the Seas. It really felt great to unplug from the daily grind and spend some time with my girlfriend and family. I've been doing a lot of shooting so far this year but most of it has been for client work. I truly enjoyed walking around the amazing ship with my camera and tripod for kicks and giggles :)
The Allure of the seas is currently the world's largest cruise ship. It departs from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and cruises the Carribean Ocean. This is a photo of the Allure's Solarium infinity hot tubs. These twin 20 person infinity hot tubs are located on each side of the 15th floor and splash their overflow 136 feet above the ocean.

The theme for MM was reflection.
While this image is obviously a reflection it also made me reflect on the things that occur on a daily/weekly/monthly and annual basis that weave themselves through our lives that bring us to different places. In my case - blood pressure pills - egad! A reminder to unplug and actually get out and use my camera ;-)
Going to Bed
I check the locks on the front door
and the side door,
make sure the windows are closed
and the heat dialled down.
I switch off the computer,
turn off the living room lights.
I let in the cats.
Reverently, I unplug the Christmas tree,
leaving Christ and the little animals
in the dark.
The last thing I do
is step out to the back yard
for a quick look at the Milky Way.
The stars are halogen-blue.
The constellations, whose names
I have long since forgotten,
look down anonymously,
and the whole galaxy
is cartwheeling in silence through the night.
Everything seems to be ok.

I have been 'hanging on' to that one for absolutely ages. I also have zillions of photos I truly would like to share with you. But when I know I might just have the time to upload but NOT the time to comment on YOUR WORK; I won't upload either.... That's the reason you see nothing of me, hear little these times and might have to do without me for a while longer.
This year has been the best for us personally for quite a long time; and it was certainly the best since we came to France. It has actually gotten really good by the 21st of February. Whatever life threw at us after that date made us just sigh, grin, laugh, and then we took new strength, and just went on with whatever was to be done.
I also still am without my future new computer, and although I am glad to be able to us Hero Husband's very old and tired laptop which came with its English passport to Switzerland and then to France, it's still a very old machine and I cannot use any of my free photo processings either because they would devour too much of the little and precious capacities of said computer. I therefore learn to think small once more; not a bad thing really - because I will appreciate all the more my new and shiny and HUGELY efficient tower.... once I'll have it!!)
It's a typical day for the Monday Blues, a miserable, grey, wet and depressing November Day with pigeons stealing the bird seeds I put out for the birds (not the scum), neighbours cats trailing their fat bellies bellinguerly in front of my study window (probably hoping for me to get up and rap at the window so that they can laugh at me before suddenly waking up and chasing a bird that broke through the pigeon barrier....), at the radio station France Musique only sad and melancholic music (better put up my newly acquired Hiromi CD (merci Hat Man... for the tip)!!! Aaah, that's better - now a third espresso (I just read that the Swiss drink more 'Italian style' espresso than the Italians.... and frankly, I am not surprised!), a shard of a jealously controlled Swiss chocolate - and the world is beautiful once more!! - Easy peasy, no?
Joyeux anniversaire à Brigitte M., a dear, dear Swiss friend and to René H. who will be called as he is not connected to the web!!!

I keep the tree plugged in continuously now because when you unplug it and plug it back in, six different star wars/star trek talking ornaments go off at once and freak out the cats.
My better half and I are moving away from the city to a very small town, closer to the ocean. The movers will finish our move today. Got to unplug our computers and finish packing our home office. Well, managed to get this in one night. Conditions were not to bad but the moon was at 80% so I took the Ha first and the Oiii when the moon was lower. Took long than expected as the guide camera stopped working 3 times which required me to unplug and reconnect, need to look into that. Well, though the moon is on its way out so are the clear skies according to the weather forecast for the next two weeks so I guess no more imaging.
Object Description:-
This is NGC 7000 the North America Nebula. It is an emission Nebula in the constellation of Cygnus at a distance of approximate 1,600 - 1,800 ly with a visual mag of 4.0 and is made up mainly of ionized hydrogen. The brightest part is known as the Cygnus Wall which exhibits the most concentrated area of star formation. A band of interstellar gas between us and the nebula absorbs the light of the stars giving it this unique shape.

-Firstly, put on some thin skin-coloured tights for extra slippy feet. This adds to the danger! Also put on that white dress you'll never wear, and find those shoes that give you blisters. Check?
-Nextly, extend your tripod and climb on top of your washer and dryer, tripod in hand. Check?
-Put one leg of the tripod on the washer, one leg on the dryer, and the third leg on a green recycling bin that you wheeled in especially for the occasion. Check?
- Now you want to frame the shot according to your desires and climb down from behind the tripod in your slippy tights, without moving the tripod or falling on you face. Check?
- Next, postion yourself within the stolen swively chair in a lady-like manner that doesn't expose your buttocks, and try to look relaxed whilst holding the awkward pose. The key is to make it look natural. Check?
- Press your shutter 42 times - Choose the 7th shot....Check?
- Get your now bored boyfriend to take "behind the scenes" photos so you don't have to explain your whole set up in writing in the description section of the final pho....ahhhh shiiiiiite...

Kevin gave me the prompt "Disconnect" because I didn't have any ideas for today's photo. I feel like we can all resonate with it. Also... annoyingly, I just learned that our outlet is crooked.
First thing I do being back ... ? Trying to catch up on New York Times under the Brooklyn Bridge. Some habits die hard or don’t die at all ! The rock (chair) under the bridge is officially now my fav place. I can sit there in my zone blocking the entire world out! I’ll read, I’ll look over my Italian, I’ll drink coffee & turn off the phone ! #unplug

[The Big Move is scheduled for tomorrow. As I explained over the last few days, no more uploads from me until the 25th or 26th of November at the earliest, assuming all goes well, which one should never assume...]
In the little downstairs room I have been using as an office for so many years in this house, and where I sit today like every morning in front of my desk, the bookshelves are now entirely empty, except for the two large JBL speakers (too heavy for me to dare move by myself), the Revox reel-to-reel tape deck and the small Teac components of my hi-fi installation. They have been unplugged and the cables are all coiled. They look like the folded wings of a dark bird, ready to die... or to fly.
On my desk, almost nothing remains: the PC I will shut down and unplug soon after I finish uploading these daily photos to Flickr, the Bose speakers attached to it, the banker’s lamp that will soon go dark and wait to be packed by the movers when they come tomorrow. All the rest I have already packed away.
There is great sadness at leaving one’s world behind, but as it must be done, then I know that I am also very fortunate because there is a whole new world that awaits me, full of joy and promises, and since for me “a world” implies first and foremost a home base, I am happy, in those moments of separations and departures, to share not pictures of melancholy, sorrow and old dust on empty shelves, but the first photos of the place I will call home from now on. Fate (I would not presume to say the Hand of God as I am quite sure I’m not important or worthy enough for Him to personally care!) has granted me a wonderful new chance at living a life of happiness and love and trust, and even though I am not convinced I deserve such a bliss, I fully intend to make the most of it, and to bring into it all I have to offer, however meager that may be.
Part of the main façade of the house, which was built just before 1750. The whole attic, with its gorgeous period timber structure, will be insulated and converted into a loft-like space for which I will need to design layout plans to organize the space for my needs. The pool is lovely and means I can begin exercising again by swimming as often as I will want to.

Most mornings, I'm awake at 5:30 AM. Typically, I'm using the early morning quiet hours to read blogs, sieve back through the Twitter stream, and engage in some early-morning Words with Friends.
However, with the break in routines that comes from attending a wilderness retreat (and, in this case, a complete cut-off from from access to the online world), it was very easy to instead find myself reflecting on the early-morning stillness from the vantage of the middle of a lake in a canoe.

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately and certain things have come to mind. Living in the city and being plugged in 24/7 (FB, Flickr, work, email, Blackberry, iPhone,) has caused me to become a little drone like.
I wake up check my BB for work emails, throw my stuff together and rush to work. I sift through my daily email and work with my team then rush home. Then depending on the night it's rushing off to the climbing gym or swimming pool then rush home again. The whole time i'm on my BB or iphone checking email, FB and of course Flickr.
I'm not complaining as i like my life and i like technology (yes i'm a geek). What i'm trying to say is every so often you have to unplug and enjoy the moment. Live for what is happening right then as we tend to get so wrapped up in "stuff" we miss those moments in life that make it worth living.
Our lives are like this footprint in the ice ... it'll be gone shortly as the sun hits the window and melts the frost. Stop and enjoy a moment, any moment, find some beauty around you and savour the simplicity..

Adding a few photos from yesterday's Christmas Bird Count for High River. I might have to be without my computer for however (?) long, as it keeps stopping and I have to unplug it every time. No idea why this is happening. The computer freezes; the top light on top of the tower stays on, but the tiny light on the front of the tower goes off and won't come back again and I can't use the computer. Today, I will have to call in at the store and speak to the technician and see what he says. Hoping so much that I won't be without my computer for long as I really, really need to have access to it, especially for the next two weeks ... sigh.
It’s been ages since Stormtrooper Bruce has been able to escape to the abandoned Secret Room he found hidden behind his quarters.
Spending a few hours of peace and quiet to unwind and unplug is just what he needs to figure out how to undo the damage done by the recent events which turned him into Palpatine's Pet.
And of course a power nap along the way doesn't hurt either.

Conceptually, or in terms of offering instruction, the Yield is my favorite road sign. We might all do well to listen to its gentle advice.
I'm partial to Witter Bynner's interpretation of Chapter 43 of the Tao Te Ching:
"As the soft yield of water cleaves obstinate stone,
so to yield with life solves the insoluble.
To yield, I have learned, is to come back again.
But this unworded lesson,
This easy example,
Is lost upon men."
And Robert Frost when not to:

It's not uncommon to find outdoor extension cords in parking lots and along roadsides here in Fairbanks. People forget to unplug their cars and drive off with the cords dragging and eventually they fall off.
I picked this one up on my walk in to the university and hung it up on the Yield sign where possibly its owner later was reunited with it.
Yield Folks.
On the eve of my 7th day of nothing but juice and raw fruits and vegetables, I'm starting to really feel the craving for some of my favorite foods. Foods like, chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, pasta salad, eggs, cheese and of course Guinness beer! Tomorrow will be rough as family dinner will be Spaghetti and I will be drinking juice! I only have till wednesday so I think i'll be ok.
The theme for today's picture came out of my craving for meat. Actually my original idea was more on the vegan side but after running this idea by Joyce she really seemed to like the bloody one. I agreed to this only if she cleaned the Juicer. Wanting blood, she agreed.
No, I don't support, promote or condone cannibalism, but figured it might make a pretty cool theme. Who better to eat then Joyce! She was really a trooper when it came to spattering the blood onto her face. I went out into the garage and using the airbrush paint that I use on Rylan, spattered it all over her face using the air compressor. Joyce giggled saying it tickled! Until tonight, I thought it was only Rylan acting like it tickled… go figure the little guy was telling the truth!
With Tripod setup I snapped several shots of Joyce Juicing a beet. This gave me a good base for the blood. With the camera and set un moved, Joyce and I jumped in and using the natural face making skills we each must have been born with, acted as if I was really juicing her arm! I think we pulled it off nicely. Funny thing was my father wanted to make sure we remembered to unplug the juicer before putting our hands in it. We assured him that it was unplugged and the blade was removed.
We didn't shoot forever since the shot was pretty straight forward. Post production is where it came together. I overlaid the shot of the juice flowing from the spout into the glass with the shot of Joyce and I. I masked out everything but the spout, showing through the layer behind. I then heavily dodged and burned the highlights and shadows to accentuate the hard lighting I had already achieved in camera. The blood spatter was a random brush I found online. I used a slight bevel and emboss to give the blood some highlights.
The "blood" on the goggles was really water. I painted each water droplet red individually to finish off the shot.
Its been a while since I've done a shot with a gory theme and find it refreshing to see some blood every now and again… as long as its not mine! Actually, if you go back in my portfolio you can see a shot with similarities. I was holding a cleaver and cutting potatoes. Its crazy to look back and see the difference in style and skill. Cleaning up the mess I followed the extension cord to the wall to find out that the juicer had been plugged in the whole time! good thing the blade was out… that could have been really bad. At least the blood would have looked more real!

So yesterday the power went out, the whole damn apartment was out of power. I went out outside and everyone was flipping out.
I wasn’t flipping out, I was happy. Other than being robbed of the Sunday night football game on TV, I thought it was kind of cool. Plus I was just delighted they didn’t shut it off due to my bill not being paid. That’s the kind of haphazard stupid shit I would forget and let happen to me.
To relieved that it wasn’t me being a careless moron, I went back inside and lit a couple candles, got a couple flashlights going, and started to calm the babe down.
Then I started to listen. People talking. People congregating. Real human interaction. Huh?
I noticed more people intermingling at once than my entire four years living at this place.
“How sad is this?!” I thought to myself. It takes the power to go out for people to talk to each other? Usually it’s just a bunch of people mesmerized by their televisions like a bunch of mindless day of the dead zombies. Sadly though the only thing that they were talking about was about how annoyed they were that the power was out.
Have we become so reliant on this shit that we are lost without it?
I took advantage of the opportunity. I grabbed the babe, put our jackets on, and started to walk towards downtown.
And fuck my silly and call me crazy cool, the whole TOWN was blacked out! I mean stop lights, street lights, every single thing that required electricity was out.
I thought it was cool. I kind of reminded me of Armageddon.
But to see these people all huddling up in their minivans with the inside light on was both hilarious and despairing.
IS THIS ALL YOU PEOPLE KNOW? CAN YOU GET OUT OF YOUR BUBBLE? GO LIGHT A CANDLE AND PLAY A BOARD GAME! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT A BOARD GAME IS?! GO FOR A WALK! DO YOUR LEGS WORK!?!? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING THAT DOESN’T REQUIRE GASOLINE OR A CORD?!
Think about this people. This whole plug-it-in culture we have become accustomed to is SCARY. Our lives are so glued to the TV and all our fucking appliances that we are in land of the lost without them.
Try this: Unplug your life for a week, or even just a day or two to start. Turn the TV off. Drive your bike or walk to the park. Go outside. Shit light a few candles instead of using your light bulbs. You’ll be surprised just how much you learn about yourself and the others you are surrounded by as you do this.
The shot at hand? This is a shot I took during the road trip I went on with the babe. I found a little trail at sunset that led down to a secret beach inlet. The Pacific Ocean was 100 feet in front of us. I sat the camera on the ground and picked up my giant 90 pound babe and…
