This tree was a focal point for the weekend, as we attempted to satisfy both mathematical and historical questions related to this specimen. As it would turn out, this is NOT the tree in the famous Tom Thomson painting. (But it is a distant relation, by marriage, thrice removed.)

Setup: Ironing board, iron, crumpled receipts, laundry clips, radio and drying rack. I will iron all the crumpled receipts. The heat will

turn receipts black. I will hang the receipts on the drying rack. Then, I will unplug the iron and radio and walk away. I will perform in uniform.

Unplug and Play: Pemberton and District Recreation Service hosts free Family Event, May 1Share

Apr 21, 2016

Affected Communities: Electoral Area C, Village of Pemberton

The Pemberton and District Community Centre will be hosting an Unplug and Play event on Sunday, May 1 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm as a kickoff event to Screen Free Week.

The event is geared towards creating awareness for families on the importance of balancing technology use with time with family, creative pursuits, recreation and nature. Children today are increasingly connecting to technology and disconnecting from themselves, their close relationships, and nature. Parents are encouraged to participate.

I somehow broke my thumb nail while trying to unplug my laptop, try and figure that one out. >-<

It was a pretty good day, went grocery shopping with my mom and went to a funeral with her and my grandma. That wasn't a fun part, but not the point. Also played some games and watch let's play videos. Didn't watch any TV actually. Shocking.

So for a good part of my day I wore a pikachu shirt and while at WinCo, I walked by a mom and her little boy and as I walked I heard him say "pikachu!" so happy about it too. It made me smile, it was super cute and made my day.

It's the littlest things that can make us happy, and I love that.

This is the board, removed from the mouse, and with the USB cable cut. My first plan was to solder to the loose wires, and keep the white plastic connector - I did another mouse that way. But then I figured it might be easier to solder to the pins inside the connector, if I could just remove the plastic around them. Not like I plug and unplug the cable from the mouse very often...

Los chicos de Lugma y parte de Unplug justo antes de entrar a mi charla.

one very hot day....this was taken before lunch, and after lunch we had such a massive storm that the lighting fried the modem, router and partly disabled my computer (I unplugged the power but forgot to unplug the internet!)...oops!

A weekend getaway from the busy metro.

I have five clocks in my life

And only one tells the time right.

I'll just unplug it for today.

I'll just unplug it for today.

New singing Rapunzel doll being deboxed. She is identical to last year's Singing Rapunzel, except that she sings 'I See the Light' instead of 'Healing Incantation', and the packaging is different. The Try Me feature is activated by opening the lid, and she sings 10 seconds of the song. To debox her, you have to open the bottom first, so you can unplug the Try Me wire from the front lid. Then you can lift the inner box (to which the doll is attached) from the outer box. She is attached to the inner box and plastic supports by wires, tiny T-tabs and rubber bands.

After the Try Me wire is unplugged from the back of the doll, she can now sing the 45 seconds of 'I See the Light' by sliding the lantern on her right hand. The lantern and plastic flowers in her hair light up while she sings.

I got the singing Rapunzel doll last Friday (July 22, 2016) from the Disney Store, that I ordered during the Friends and Family sale. I have yet to see her in stores (as of July 31, 2016).

Even though I'm not thrilled with the look of the new Rapunzel's box, the Try Me mechanism is rather neat. You first enable the Try Me switch by pulling a long plastic tab in the back. Then there is a switch attached to the hinge of the front cover, which is activated when you close then open the lid far enough. It will cause Rapunzel to sing about 10 seconds of I See the Light, and light up the lantern she is holding and flowers in her hair. I will post more detailed photos of Rapunzel when I debox her. I still have not seen her in stores yet. And the new singing Belle doll is nowhere to be found, either in stores or online.

Now I have singing rapunzel dolls with three different songs. ''When Will My Life Begin'' (2011 - 2014), ''Healing Incantation'' (2015) and now ''I See the Light'' (2016). I wish that other of the Disney singing dolls would have such a variation in their songs.

The fact that all sides are covered by cardboard (except for the oval plastic window in front), makes the box very sturdy. In particular, all the edges and corners are really stiff, so resist damage during shipping. My doll's box came in perfect shape, which I can't say for most of the doll boxes I order from the Disney Store. The box wasn't packed any better than usual (a few airbags on the bottom of the shipping carton), but the sturdiness of the doll's box made the difference. Also this box is much thicker (deeper) than previous singing doll boxes, and even LE doll boxes, so leaves lots of room to position the doll nicely. The new construction also means the boxed doll is bulkier and heavier than previous singing dolls, so may be more costly to ship.

Here's what it can look like when your DTV converter box quits. I got home yesterday and turned on the TV (usually leave the box on so it keeps up with program guide info) and got this. Couldn't turn the box off with either remote or front panel button. Had to unplug it to clear. Just what I need - my TV with the equivalent of a Blue Screen of Death...

Playing outside at a local playscape reminded me to make Dominic unplug from the electronics every once in a while and just be a kid. He had just come down the slide here... the photo captures everything I could say in words.

My boys and I spent the day visiting my parents' yesterday, where I tried to unplug from social media and focus on family. I couldn't resist taking a bunch of pictures though, because I love my childhood home and hometown so much! This is our family's kitchen. Like many kitchens, it is the heart of my parents' home. We've had many long conversations here. My sis and I learned about the birds and the bees here. I was doing my homework here when the 1989 Loma Prieta quake hit (I literally watched the earthquake waves roll through the house). We unveiled our matching angel tattoos that we got while they were out of town one year (Dad laughed and said if we would've waited he would've taken us to get good ones; Mom was so pissed to couldn't speak to us lol). And my mom, an amazing cook, prepared many, many amazing meals with lots of love here! Now 3 grandsons are making the next generation of memories here.

What is the epicenter of your family home? What memories to you have of that space?

playfulpaperwork: The kitchen is always a great place for making memories ... sharing meals, cooking together and lots of laughing. A close second would be our play space, though!

sewliciousbowtique: The kitchen sink 😊 My mom and I had many "life talks" while washing and drying dishes

ruralish: @playfulpaperwork that sounds like a happy play space! I bet your kiddos love it there. ☺️

ruralish: @sewliciousbowtique what a great memory! I wonder if your mom "planned" any of those dish chats lol. I had totally forgotten about my husband's and my first apartment together (pre-marriage) and we didn't have a dishwasher. We had a lot of nice chats over those dishes!

kupper11: Thanks for sharing. It's great to see my plates in context !

ruralish: @kupper11 these are at my parents @rekrap2 in Port Costa, where I grew up! I have quite a few things of yours in my kitchen to remind me of home. 💕

The Concept:

As a culture, we have found ourselves entwined with the exponential growth of technology. Our everyday lives are entangled with the necessity for electronic machines, digital devices, chiming alerts, charging ports, LED screens and high speed connectivity.

This summer, we are extending the invitation for you to come unplug with us.

For three days and two nights, we will power down the communication devices and engage in conversation without texting. We will eat meals by the fire and connect socially without the social network. We will appreciate nature in its true form: up close and personal, without the pixels.

We welcome you to our tribal village.

The Intent:

Without the ready access to the Internet, there was considerable speculation over the weekend as to whether the tree in question was, indeed, the tree painted by Tom Thomson. Apparently, he painted the tree from the vantage of the ranger's cabin across the lake from The Edge. (Upon checking later, I was saddened to know that the tree had burned down in the 70s. Somehow the wilderness myth has far more appeal than the truth. Dratted Wikipedia truth.)

While at #Unplugd11, we worked in small groups on our chapter pieces, and convened as a large group for common discussions. The space upstairs at the lodge was very conducive to our purposes. What a great venue!!
