I found this Tulip "casualty" unopened lying in a flower bed, I suspect our dog Bella broke it off racing around like a mad thing but she was keeping schtum. Anyway I popped it in a small glass bottle & it has bloomed magnificently, brightening up our porch windowsill. Some of the bokeh is Daisies growing in the lawn, some is light reflecting off a dark Hebe bush & some is dirty marks on my window so don't look too closely lol HWW & HBW!

Thanks for all the get well wishes yesterday, my sprained hip is much easier tonight after a quiet day pottering around in the garden & the bee sting swelling was gone when I awoke, the antihistamines did the trick.

ant on unopened peony flower bud

These flowers have opened. In some ways, I prefer the buds, unopened yet, but these are also God's creation. Thanks for looking!

Interesting that the family is named for asparagus.

The brown in the background is mostly last year's dead leaves, from oaks and other trees.

This photograph presents a sea of Daylilies, a symphony in yellow, bathed in soft sunlight. The focus is on the undulating waves of vibrant yellow blooms, interspersed with unopened buds poised to join the chorus. These flowers, known for their ephemeral beauty, are captured at the height of their one-day performance, exuding cheer and vitality. The green blades of foliage form an intricate dance of lines and patterns, creating a lush tapestry that cradles each blossom. Light and shadow play hide and seek across the petals and leaves, adding depth and dimension to the scene. As a collective, the Daylilies offer a breathtaking glimpse into the recurring cycles of nature, reminding us of the fleeting, yet recurring joy that each new day can bring.

Due to unpredictable weather and the long hikes in this island I mainly go out with my mobile phone. No heavy equipments. A relief and also provide me an opportunity to appreciate my surroundings. Here are some of the wild flowers captured during my many long walks.

Neotinea ustulata (Orchidaceae) 127 25

The name of this beautiful orchid refers to the dark red coloration of the unopened flowers that produces the scorched effect from which the common name burnt-tipped orchid is derived.

It is an isolated species that has always been the subject of debate as to its true generic origin. It began its existence formally described as Neotinia ustulata and was later reclassified as Orchis, where it remained for many years until research indicated that both it and its companions in the Orchis tridentata group should be more properly relocated to the Neotinia stable. It has always been puzzling that, despite often growing in the thousands with other Orchis species, Orchis ustulata has never been found to hybridize with any species other than Orchis. tridentata.

It is a widespread orchid, with a range that takes it from the Faroe Islands and Sweden north to the Mediterranean and east to western Siberia. It is usually most common in mountainous areas, where it prefers a full sun location on alkaline soils, usually short grass and alpine pastures.

Given its range of ecological zones, it can be found from April to August. Today it is known to have at least two successive flowering waves, and these later flowering plants are believed to be a separate subspecies, tentatively named aestivalis.

This photograph captures a beautiful cluster of pink lilies, each in various stages of bloom. The vibrant pink petals contrast beautifully with the lush green leaves, creating a striking display of nature's beauty. The photo showcases the intricate details of the lilies, from the delicate stamen to the unopened buds, highlighting the plant's lifecycle and elegance. This scene is a perfect representation of the serenity and charm found in a well-tended garden.

Still just lying on the table waiting for a quiet few minutes, or perhaps an uninterrupted hour, the Sunday Newspaper -

sections and sections - never to be opened,

pages and pages - never to be turned

words and more words - never to be read

Is its only use to be an object to photograph?

Not too bad result for a 70 year old lens!

Talk about bokeh!

I love how the unopened flower buds have a pink tinge to them.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.

Noticed this tiny guy and its long antennae sprinkled with pollen on an unopened daylily. Body is less than 1/2". Found out it is a type of tree cricket that lives on plants, trees, etc. but not on the ground. First time for me to see one! Had a hard time getting it to stay on top for a few seconds to get a handheld photo. Couldn't get closer or it would quickly hide.

Sorry, more insects! :-)

A bit of color to brighten my page... :)

very prickly Leucopogon setiger; the flowers take a long time to open!

Yesterday's post showed a bush/plant of the same type, but with the flower buds unopened. These definitely were opened.

Thank you for looking! Isn't God a great artist?

California Poppies are really amazing. They close up when it gets cold and the sun goes down, then open in the mid-morning IF it's not cold and windy. Today was cool and still so they opened. I thought I'd better photograph them before tonight's rain sets in. They were all wrapped up tight by 4 pm. Cool, huh? I hope you can see the composition here, that unopened bud encircled by a triangle.

Little pink house, upon your hill,

with your wide open door,

the unopened envelopes of your invitation,

are scattered on my floor,

Oh little house, with your smiles..
