This DJI Phantom 2 drone was spotted over San Francisco's Ocean Beach. The image was captured on April 19, 2014, and was my first time seeing an unmanned aerial vehicle. The drone was equipped with an onboard camera, and was recording a completed art project by San Francisco artist Andres Amador.

This is an artists concept of the proposed AVIATR Titan Airplane flying over a chain of bright terrain mountains with dark fluvially eroded intermountain plains.
This image was created using Blender3d and a backround image of terrestrial terrain that is thought similar one of Titan terrain environments. The terrestrial background was created from images taken out of an airplane window and manipulated in Photoshop.

Took this photo during the maiden flight of my new 3D Robotics Solo drone. This thing is pretty sweet! I've flown the DJI Phantom 2 a bit, and they're definitely quite different in terms of control and sensitivity. I think there are some options hidden in the Solo app to increase the speed/sensitivity, but I rather like that it's not overly fast at rotating as the video that would produce would be useless.
A soldier from the Royal Artillery preapres to launch the Desert Hawk 3 UAS (Unmanned Air System) over Salisbury Plain during a training exercise.
Desert Hawk is an extremely versatile and small Unmanned Aerial System designed for discrete operations. It is operated normally at the company level but is equally well employed above and below this. It has an extremely good record proven over the last year and is currently supporting 16 Air Assault Brigade in Afghanistan. It provides an excellent 'over the hill' view for commanders on the ground.

The Raven falls into the class of Air Force small UAS known as man-portable UAS. The Raven back packable system features two air vehicles, a ground control unit, remote video terminal, transit cases and support equipment. Two specially trained Airmen operate the Raven. Raven can be controlled manually or can autonomously navigate a pre-planned route. Sensors on the Raven includes a color daylight camera and an infrared camera for night operations. The air vehicle is hand-launched, weighs less than 5 pounds and has an endurance of up to 80 minutes. The Raven UAS has proven itself in combat supporting U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other areas of conflict. The Raven is now used by all of the military services.

The Unmanned Aerial System, Predator aircraft ready for take-off on the runway.
Set up in January 2004 as an urgent operational requirement to support coalition operations in the Multi-National Division (South East) or MND (SE) of Iraq, 1115 Flight consists of 45 predominantly Royal Air Force personnel comprising pilots, sensor operators, engineers and other support personnel. The pilots and sensor operators work round-the-clock at Ground Control Stations housed at Nellis Air Force Base whilst the engineers are based at Creech Air Force Base both of which are in Nevada USA.
Flying the Predator Unmanned Aerial System, they provide vital persistent, wide-area surveillance to support troops on the ground in both Iraq and Afghanistan. If called upon to do so they can also provide close air support, video support of surface actions, air strike coordination, and direct fire support.

Phoenix UAV in Kosovo.
The BAE Systems Phoenix (originally GEC-Marconi Phoenix) was an all-weather, day or night, real-time surveillance Unmanned Air Vehicle.
It had a twin-boom UAV with a surveillance pod, from which the imagery was data linked to a ground control station (GCS) that also controlled the aircraft in flight. It was the third generation of UAV in British Army service with the Royal Artillery after SD/1 and Canadair Midge.
The Phoenix was a fairly typical combat surveillance UAV, powered by a 20 kW (26 hp) piston engine, but is distinctive in that it is a "tractor" aircraft, with the propeller in the front. This tends to obstruct a sensor turret, and so the sensor payload, built around an infrared imager, was carried in a pod slung well under the fuselage. Phoenix was mostly made of Kevlar and other plastics.
Phoenix was 'zero-length' launch being projected into the air from a launch-rail mounted on the back of a truck. The launch rail having been originally developed for the US Army Aquilla UAV that failed to enter service. The Phoenix was recovered by parachute, landing on its back, with a crushable "hump" on the back taking up the impact. The zero-length take-off and landing was an essential requirement for operating in NATO's Central Region and deployment in a forward divisional area. Maximum flight time was around 4 hours.
Phoenix sensors provided imagery direct to the GCS where it was analysed and reported to artillery headquarters, to command level, or to a Phoenix troop command post. The principal method of communication from the GCS to artillery on the ground was via the Battlefield Artillery Target Engagement System (BATES). The UAV could be launched within an hour of reaching its launch site. A second UAV can be launched within a further eight minutes and up to two UAVs can be controlled from the same ground station.
The name Phoenix was taken from Project Phoenix, a late 1970s study into surveillance and target acquisition needs after cancellation of the unsuccessful development of Westland MRUASTAS to replace AN/USD501 Midge. The first flight was in 1986, with an expectation that it would enter service in 1989, but the project suffered from numerous delays.[1] The Phoenix eventually entered service in 1999, and saw limited operational use as part of the British contribution to Kosovo Force (KFOR) and in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It gave excellent service for artillery spotting. The system was operated by the 32nd Regiment Royal Artillery.
The final operational sortie was conducted in May 2006.
