“The mountains were his masters. They rimmed in life. They were the cup of reality, beyond growth, beyond struggle and death. They were his absolute unity in the midst of eternal change.” ~ Thomas Wolfe
A dreary spring day in the Tetons...still beats any day in the Midwest :-) Not sure what the yellow ground cover was, but it provided a nice splash of color against those dark skies. One week from today we will be be enjoying some glorious mountain views in Glacier....can't wait to get there!!!! Lost my position at work today thanks to good old union bumping rights, but fortunately for me, I had another position to take; not exactly what I want to do, but in this day and age, I have to be thankful for even having a job :-) Have a great Friday, and as always, thanks for your visits and support. I will catch up with everyone soon.

The Kapitan Keling Mosque (Malay name:Masjid Kapitan Keling) is a mosque built in the 19th century by Indian Muslim traders in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. Being a prominent Islamic historic centre, it is part of the World Heritage Site of George Town and lies at the centre of the city's Tamil Muslim neighbourhood, the chulias. It is the first permanent Muslim institution to have been established in the area, dating from the early 1800s.

With one of their 70 tonners down, the Belfast & Moosehead Lake borrowed Pan Am's Maine Central heritage unit for a weekend to run their fairground shuttles to the Common Ground fair. She's seen here crossing Route 139 in Unity, about the pull up to the station to let off passengers returning from the fair. They'll make a couple more roundtrips to the fair and back before calling it a night, and tying the set down by the station. On the adjacent track is an old Maine Central plow, and two rusty Bangor & Aroostook reefers, from that railroads potato hauling days.
It is the simplest of principles, it is the most difficult of principles.
Let us first be clear on what unity does not mean: it does not mean uniformity. Unity is oneness. Diversity lends strength to any group of people. Unity binds together diverse elements so that, by virtue of their many strengths, the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
Me, You and Him.
Crossing Illinois on the NS Lafayette District behind an SD60E for power, NS Train 957 comes through the curve at Unity headed for Decatur.
After the loan agreement from the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke expired, 2-8-8-2 Y6a N&W 2156 is being returned back west to Missouri after a 5 year reunion of Norfolk & Western Steam a stone's throw from where the A, J, and Y class engines were built at the East End Shops.
Having grown up seeing this engine at the NMOT, then at the VMT while shooting 611 in 2017, I decided to make the trip out and witness the locomotive in motion for my first and probably last time.
The "hospital train" left Virginia on June 10th, and included the 7030 for power, Business Car NS 7 "Pennsylvania" for mechanical personnel, the Y6a (being moved as MOTX 2156), and a boxcar for braking effort. The move was limited to 25 MPH with the main rods removed, and traveled Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois before crossing the river into Missouri via the TRRA early on the 14th. The engine finally arrived back "home" at the NMOT on the 15th with assistance from the Union Pacific over the Jefferson City Subdivision.

Lake Worth, Florida
The Osborne neighborhood in Lake Worth has been settled since the turn of the century. Until the 1950s, it was the neighborhood where Lake Worth's African-American residents were forced by city codes to live. This wall was the dividing line between black and white, and was originally built as a wall of separation.
Thanks to a community project in 1993, it was renamed the "Unity Wall" and painted over with murals for its entire three-block length.
In spite of the upbeat name and pretty pictures, I still find it a sad place to visit.
It's the title of this sculpture by leading Indonesian artist But Muchtar, which was unveiled in 1982 in Fort Canning Park in Singapore.
"The sculpture is made up of spheres .. Needle-like cones are gathered in the centre of the sculpture; pointing from different directions but implying uniformity as the shadows cast are intertwined. The artist has thoughtfully used shapes to create an asymmetrical balanced within the sculpture. There are five stilt-like structures pointing upward from the top of the sculpture. These resemble the five brown sheaves of rice stalks presented in the original ASEAN logo, one for each founding member from the 1967 union."
