Police seized 41 vehicles during a two-day traffic operation earlier this week.
Officers were out in force with partner agencies as part of Operation Unity, which targeted a range of offences on the roads.
Check sites were set up in Gorton, Eastlands, Bolton and Manchester and during the course of the two days 575 vehicles were stopped.
Twelve vehicles were seized for being used illegally in the UK, 24 vehicles were seized for no insurance, two were seized for being driven without a licence and three were seized by the DVLA.
Police also issued 100 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) to motorists, including 43 to drivers using a mobile phone and 16 for seatbelt offences.
The Drive & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) issued 55 prohibitions to commercial drivers for vehicle defects.
One vehicle was dealt with for red diesel, six taxi drivers were suspended and a 50-year old man was arrested on suspicion of two robberies in Tameside and remains in police custody for questioning.
Sergeant Garry Lyle from GMP’s Traffic Enforcement Unit said: “Partners and officers came together over the last two days to target offenders and send a stark reminder out to motorists that we will not let them compromise the safety of others on our roads.
“The Traffic Enforcement Unit deals with offences such as these on a daily basis but not to the same extent. We’re really grateful to our partners for assisting us throughout the operation and look forward to doing more of the same in the very near future.”

The Manchester Unity Building was built in 1932 by Walter Cooper Pty Ltd. It was designed by the architect Marcus R Barlow to meet the corporate needs of the Manchester Unity Group, a friendly society with 28,000 members in 1932. The twelve-storey building, located prominently on the corner of Collins Street and Swanston Street, has a concrete encased steel structure and is clad with moulded terra cotta faience. The overall effect is one of a modern commercial Gothic style. The structure is crowned with a corner tower of soaring, diminishing buttresses in a style presumed to be inspired by the Chicago Tribune Building.
The Manchester Unity building was the first in Victoria to have escalators. These provided access to the basement and the first floor directly from the main arcade entrance at Swanston Street. It was also one of the first Victorian buildings with automatic cooling, and rubbish and postal chutes on every floor. The exterior facade is clad in biscuit coloured terra cotta faience. The faience is intricately moulded to produce continuous narrow columns and shafts rising up the facade, serving to emphasise the verticality of the building. Internally there is extensive use of various Australian marbles as cladding to the walls. The ground floor lobby ceiling and cornices have high-relief depictions of Aboriginals, Australian flora and fauna as well as transport, building and primary industries. Cornice plaster panels in the corridors of all the floors carry depictions of the friendly society's role in welfare provision.

Although this building is going through the process of becoming a World Heritage site, Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL, is in need of some serious repair, so serious that the building landed on the 2009 11 Most Endangered Buildings list compiled by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Mr.Amin is a grass-cutter/hedge-trimmer by profession who hails from Seremban. He works 4 days a week including weekends & spends the rest of his free time traveling around Kuala Lumpur & observing people. He enjoys watching people interact with each other & also their surroundings & how this would affect him as a citizen in his community. This is how I got to meet him. He saw me taking photos near where he was standing & said "Hello, are you from the press? Can you actually take photos in the rain?". Despite his outward appearance which may hinder a lot of people Mr.Amin is truly a fascinating & nice fellow who happily helps out strangers with directions around town whenever he can. To me, he is a living symbol of the theme "Love & Unity".
Unity covers a wide range of loosely connected ideas in science, differently analyzed by different interpreters. Generally, they are expressions, or echoes, of the idea that science can succeed in providing one consistent, integrated, simple, and comprehensive description of the world.

Following the end of a 30 year of Civil War between separatist rebels and the government of a majority Sinhalese country, there have been several initiatives established to unite the people of the north and south of Sri Lanka.
One such initiative is an annual cricket match between two of the older schools in the country, both which have numerous similarities in their history. These schools are Ananda College of Colombo, and Jaffna Hindu College. Ananda College is one of the more prestigious schools in world cricket, having produced numerous international players and several national captains. Jaffna Hindu College is getting its feet back on the ground following the end of the war.
The inaugural match was held in Colombo and was won by Ananda College. This year the match was played in the sweltering heat of Jaffna, and was convincingly won by the home team which was a cause for much celebration.
During the post-match presentation I was lucky to notice in the background, behind all the pomp and tradition, two players from worlds apart engaging each other in a light hearted conversation with some laughs.
This is precisely the aim of this cricket match. It goes far beyond cricket itself and is aimed at bringing people together who could be seen as being wildly different despite cohabitating a small island and sharing a single nationality.
Unity.
