This is a no-name thing, 12 units from squares, no glue.
It's probably assemble-able to 30 units(even maybe without glue), but it looses it's beauty somehow. Just too much details.
This one is glued. In theory it could be assemble without, but when you try to add the last unit, you simply can't make it stand in place and during your attempts you break the whole structure.

I was thinking over this idea for several months already. It always seemed theoretically possible to me, but I did not want to over-complicate the unit, that will hold this idea.
Some renderings of the idea was:
but the latter was not solid as I wanted. And that unit could not be made solid without making it too complex. And as you know I don't like complex models: they're not that elegant.

but they're not that elegant or need glue unfortunately...
There were more units for sure, but some of them have never been assembled.
And every time I saw the waterbomb tessellation or Beth Johnson's sheep I returned to this unrealized idea.
And finally I took the easiest: just the part of tessellation's pattern (grid 3x3, central square will show at the surface). And... the challenge started. Will it ever be stable? Who knows!? I was very excited during the assembly. I used many paper clips, I didn't know, if it's stable till the very last unit... To say the truth you can assemble the same pattern two ways. One doesn't work, the second... does! But I didn't know it till the very end! And in the end! oh, you remove the clips and you have your modular! Happily! The model is stable enough, moreover!
I propose this unit as a modular origami geek test. If you're experienced and patient enough to assemble this unit without glue -- you are the true modular origami geek!

This modular has the same shape as Cephei (flic.kr/p/zd4c3u), but indeed it is different (and a bit easier to assemble, though not that concrete-hard, at least it will definitely be easier in 30-unit shape). I found it during the talk with Polina, hence the name ;)
