Sometimes several things should happen in order to give birth to something new. I had the doodle-unit in my table. But it was a bit dull and like many-many other units. And then I've seen this picture:
flic.kr/p/LmE2WU and I thought, what if I style my dull unit with 'clossing' paper parts? The result you can see in the image.
I have difficult relations with this kind of paper: I like it a lot but at
the same time you need to have a model without too many unneeded creases in order to make it look beautiful. And also the paper is a bit slippery. But for this model it's great!

I got this little beauty trying to assemble something else. Something else failed and left me with some pre-creased paper, that was to beautiful to discard. So I did this one. 12 units. And I like it even maybe more than 30-unit one, it's cleaner.

I planned to create definitely different model. But suddenly came with this one. It feels like Sonobe, but it has 60˚ angles.

Paper model engineered and folded by Arturo Pascalin using modules by Heinz Strobl.
It has 180 triangular faces (Two different sizes of non-equilateral triangle modules were used). Geodesic chord lengths were calculated using formulas by Hugh Kenner.

It has 80 triangular faces (Only 20 of them equilateral) 120 edge struts. 42 vertices, 12 pentavalent, the rest hexavalent. Builded from 200 modules in total. Geodesic chord lengths were calculated using an excellent software program called Stella
I folded this model to give as a present to dear friends of mine, Doug & Leen Tucker. (I love you guys.)
I thought that it resembled a bougainvillea flower but my wife said it looked like Barney the dinosaur (because of the colors). Since many care about this character, either hate him or love him, but few are indifferent, I decided to call it Barney-sphere. Let me know what you think.
This is the variation of rather old model. Variation in my terms of this word. If you guess the model... you'll know for sure how to fold it :) Initially I wanted to make some other finish, more usual. But it turned to be not very accurate. This one looks less usual and more clean. It surprised me, so to say.
Maybe if I knew what finish will be at the end I'd fold some of the partsin the other way to make the finish more accurate...
Решила собрать что-то простое и знакомое. Это вариация (в моем понимании этого слова) одной довольно известной модели. Кто угадает какой, сразу поймет как такое делается. Даже приз давать не надо.
Изначально предполагала привести это к совершенно иному виду, но он был немного разлап. А этот вид меня даже удивил. Он совершенно не похож ни на то, что я задумывала, ни на материнскую модель.

This fugure shows 50% of paper area, has no flaps and no pockets. Nevertheless it requires NO glue, ain is pretty stable ;) Moreover it is not hard to fold! Now I want to make one out of light-grey EH...

Actually I manage to make the units rather quickly and to assemble them without any wires or clips. I can give some tips:
1) the lines should have correct orientation from the very beginning
2) the creases must be sharp and precise
3) use tant or other thick paper, to make the figure without glue. As you see the thick foil paper is also ok.

This is an Archimedean Solid having 92 faces (80 triangular, 12 pentagonal), 150 edges, and 60 vertices.
