I really should have put more thought into my paper choices with this one, it is a sonobe variation. But it is a really firm one. It requires putting the units into place before inserting any tabs into place. Because of the locking mechanism it hides irregularities wonderfully.

I found this one here while looking for something else. origami.kosmulski.org/instructions/cosmos-ball-mukerji I am glad I did it sent me on an extended hunt for the instructions. I was lucky to find them in some far off corner of the internet.
This one is a variation and is made with the intended size paper 1:2. I think this is going to be one of those pieces that requires maintenance or needs to be rotated every few weeks for it not to tear it self apart. I have one or two others on this page like that.

It is always interesting to see how things evolve over the years. Back when I was in highschool and I learned how to make these. It took two pieces to make each unit and 60 pieces to make a ball. Now it only takes 30 pieces of paper because someone took the time to design a new unit.

The smaller ball is what 30 of the pineapple units ended up looking like. If I made the smaller number ball first it may have thrown me off of the larger ball. The smaller ball requires a lot more neatness. I used a few scrap pieces of paper and it ended up showing. The ball pulls it self a lot tighter and the edges can rip them selves apart if you pull to much. I may remake it for the sake of neatness because the units are fun and easy to make. And it goes together really tight so it would take a good reason for me to take it apart

This one seems fairly popular because I saw it listed in several places in several languages. This one makes me happy I have been taking units of single units lately because I was afraid it would come out exactly like the starlight kusudama
Unfortunately it took me while to make all 30 units because of issues with my hands.
Looking back I wish I had made it from smaller sheets of paper. The units are fairly simple, and only fold over themselves a few times. and really it has an amazing color change around the middle. a great motivation to make it from 2 color paper
