Union Pacific SD40-2 "snoot" #3479 leads a pair of high nose Norfolk & Western SD45's, the 1770 and 1779 followed by UP SD40 #3114 on a short Westbound train South of Colton, CA in September of 1985.
This train is traveling on Santa Fe's 3rd District and will reach home rails at Riverside.

A Maryland Midland mixed train arrives at Union Bridge, MD near sunset on Labor Day weekend 1985. The freight will be set out before the train continues on to Westminster to unload passengers.
A R&LHS charter from Cheyenne to Ogden pulls into Green River for a service stop. Just behind the 844 is a MILW E-unit on the point of the City of Portland. This was a badly underexposed Kodachrome that I have brightened it up in Photoshop, producing a somewhat "painterly" image.

An intermodal train passes thru Union Yard. The tower has since been razed and the Bungee Grain elevator complex in the background has been transformed into apartments. 2-8-03
Of all the grimy LA service units, 1150 stands out with a bright blue face emblazoned on its nose. Our day came to a close watching YLA63 peek its head out from a tight corridor between two industries in Vernon CA. To the left is the gate for Norman Fox & Co, a grungy chemical industry that, in my opinion, matches 1150’s aesthetic quite well.
I went out at lunchtime on Friday (7.1.10) to the bridge down at Craiglockhart on the Union Canal. Forgive me if the names aren't quite right. I really must check. The canal is frozen over. This really is just the most incredible winter.
