Chicago Union Station, opened in 1925, is the terminus of eight national long-distance routes and eight regional corridor routes. Six Metra commuter lines also terminate here. The station handles about 140,000 passengers on an average weekday, including 10,000 Amtrak passengers.

This Union Pacific locomotive sits patiently in the tune up shed as darkness falls. Her mighty power is silenced for now and she posed so perfectly for us. What more could I ask for as I was heading home and thought I was finished shooting. I'm not sure why there is a red light on in the cab unless it is a special beauty light just for us. If that's not the case please don't tell.
Yes, it's a 6 shot HDR, all raw, In Lightroom. All of the lights were crazy bright and this tamed it down to get some attention on the big boy. Another approach would have been to shoot a single frame and let the highlights go into bright star bursts and that would be cool.
Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends. You make the world a much better place! :)

Thelonis was custom built in 1953. Ed Monk, Sr modified one of his 1920’s plans and it was built by Admiral Marine Works (Earle Wakefield) on Lake Union in Seattle. Although Thelonius looks very 1920’s, several features are more ‘modern’, such as glue-wedge hull (rather than caulked seams), V-drive engine under the cockpit (rather than below the wheelhouse), greater beam and headroom. Thelonius was cruised as far as Juneau, Alaska in 1915.
Here she is cruising by the 48 ft Gray Wolf sloop, the 2023 Race To Alaska winner, Gray Wolf is a cold molded cedar boat with a free standing rig, and water ballast. She was built in 1998 for ocean racing in Camden, ME by Lyman Morse. Owned by the Goussevs for 10 years, she frequents the Seattle racing circuit.

you rail folks would love the new platform overlooking the engineering marvel of the tehachapi loop. i was lucky enough to see three trains on the loop, two at the same time.
tehachapi is only 1.5 hours from barstow!
UP 8981 and 6001 meet on the loop.

With the winter sun sitting low in the sky, the Brakeman of LWJ61-25 pauses behind a duo of GP60s as they shove out of an industry south of Salinas. The two motors, both developing over 3000 hp, tower over his silhouette, which brings to mind just how mighty and awesome these machines are.

Humanity
Driven by a vision to come together as one people, the Humanity Art Installation is made up of 35 words that reflect what humanity means to Masai Ujiri. Representing peace, togetherness, youth and diversity, the artwork uses light to create a ripple effect with its words, symbolizing the need to spread more humanity. Built in a seamless circle formed under the Humanity symbol, the 8 foot high sculpture is a reminder to the world that we’re still far from the day where everyone is treated equally.
Masai Ujiri’s Humanity Movement was inspired by Nelson Mandela’s fight for equality for all people. Keeping alive his words and actions inspired us to search for and embrace the very things that make us human, and to overcome injustice and hatred. His example was an inspiration then, and continues to be an inspiration especially now. Over one year out from one of the biggest civil rights movements of this generation, the Humanity Art Installation represents hope for the day when we see each other. Really see. The way we did when we first opened our eyes. Nothing in the way. No bias. One people.
Visit the installation now until October 31, 2021 outside Union Station, on Front Street between Bay Street and York Street. Source: torontounion.ca/events/humanity-art-installation/
Jennifer (Jen's Photography) and I went to see the Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois. Although there were no trains running and the barns were not open we did have a chance to see quite a few display pieces. I used to work at the museum as a "gandydancer" laying track way back when I was still in high school. Things sure have changed since then.
Leisenring Union Supply Store. It now appears to be some sort of convience store. Wish I had a dollar for everytime we drove by here ant it was still in Union Supply colors.
