A long and sustained campaign led to the recognition of Madarsa degrees for the first time for admissions to B.A. 1 st year in JNU this year. A sustained campaign and systematic documentation, culminating in JNUSU's 10 day-long hunger strike, finally forced the Academic Council in April 2008 to allow students with madarsa certificates to sit for the JNU .

In April 2008, following JNUSU's agitation, the JNU Administration agreed to implement 27% OBC reservation in one go. But the MHRD rejected JNU's proposal, insisting that OBC reservations and concomitant .
seat increase must be implemented in a staggered manner. .
This rejection emboldened the anti-reservation forces within .
JNU, particularly within the Administratiofl: Raising its voice .
against this unfavourable tide, JNUSU struggled to secure .
12% OBC reservations while under MHRD's directive .
