Landstown Middle School's Government class gains a comprehensive understanding of local government by meeting with council members and the city manager. This immersive experience offers a behind-the-scenes look at how their city operates, including budget allocation, land usage, taxes, and more. Through a simulated council meeting, students learn about the roles and responsibilities of each branch of government and the importance of collaboration in decision-making. This hands-on approach provides valuable insight into the potential for positive change through informed and engaged civic participation, empowering these future leaders to make a difference in their community.

I first stated this project with the proposal and understanding of the project, stating that I should keep my Research reasonable and relevant. My first understanding built from looking into the anatomy of type, I leaned a lot from this page. It allowed me to learn what makes type type. I was glad I researched this at first as it was a great booster to understanding typography. To then develop my research further, I hadn’t any ideas so I thought to look into the history. It was very interesting looking at how different types came and go. Now I had built some knowledge, I went to comparing type. Separating the difference of what type it what. Using my knowledge from the anatomy of type to compare what I can, this is where I had learnt different type gives many different effects. My first art exhibit was the sakaria studio, this was a great this to start off as there design was so creative. I was very interested in the queer type T-shirt’s and what they represent, this was where I first through to involve textiles. I next had some experiments of different media’s. I was able to acknowledge what made each one stand out and what effect it makes. I then looked into artists like Saul bass and barbra Kruger, I had mentioned I wanted to look into Saul bass so I thought it was important to do so. I liked looking at what he did and encorporating it into my own artist reflecting, I was able to take on board his typographic art. We’d be set interesting tastes that make us think, my favourite was next, the found type. It was about understanding typography in how it grows or forms naturally

We looked at a different type of typography, Sarah king. I’d love his collection of words and how it builds the image, it was like images but with words, we took the chance to respond and have a go, this helped to include software into this working on the screen, I then used that illustrator to try different types, trying to expand my experiences with creating type. My ideas of including my interest of fashion and textiles, I had to research. I had a look At a wide range of ideas type can be imbedded into textiles. Following my interests, primary research i gathered Kathryn Hamnett, I loved her movement of the shirts and how they can wear the words to emphasise what there trying to say. Ellen Lipton and javier mariscal were interesting artists witch lead to an inspired type piece, this was also when I sprung the idea of mixing some sort of javier mariscals type with Saul bass’s. Same process with Nevill broody, I was able to show an inspired image aswell, reflecting back and forth from the breif and previous testing, I wanted to try hand-rendered type

I then had a great task on quote imagery,

Expressing letters with thumbnails and the imagery of what quotes are trying to convey. I felt after my research I had some ideas than I needed to put down as my initial ideas, some of them came to just ideas popping in my head. I liked this as I was able to get all my ideas down and explain what I had in mind, this helped funnel my research to keep it relevant to what I want my ideas to built into.

Brands have typography involved, we talked over how they convey what they want, and how certain letters/shapes and symbols can embed in our mind to remember a brand, like McDonald’s. As I was trying to guide my research in the right way due to my initial ideas, I looked at Jewelry artist and what makes there art unique, original, possible. That followed into more artist research on wire work artists, these were easy and important in the long run as I used wire in my pieces.

My next plan was developing my ideas, started of with experimenting wire lettering, specifically for the chain idea, seeing what’s works and what’s easier. These helps as they are a starting off using wire. As I looked at the wire it brought I could use some sort of metal for the letters, having more solid metal rather than wires could clean it up, and improve its strength and so I had to look into some sort of metal casting, pewter casting. I looks reasonable and interesting, but cost and time wise I couldn’t. It was good looking ad the low temp of pewter to cast it easy. A popular artist piped up Stephan sagmeister, a really interesting American pop artist/ typographer.

Extending my my interests into the textual idea I decided to do some eperement into sewing with the thread and embroidery material, testing always helps build understanding of the material your looking at.

An interesting research task I got was a video called ‘wake up and smell the font’ witch really opened up my eyes into what type first makes you feel when you look at it, and the unconscious thought you don’t realise when looking at a font, this really effected the way I looked at type.

I had a look at some unique art, that gave me ideas that linked with what I could experiment, Gabriel dawe with his Rainbow thread model to build a smooth colour change and block image. And manrizio anzeri with is interesting thread mask work. More in depth material experimenting explored type that could smell or a word related to what it smelt like. This was fun and was a joy to do. I had a look at digitally rendered type working with illustrator recreations and fontstruct, I like the website as it was simple to use and you were able to custom and save your own alphabets.

I tried to squeeze as much artist exploration in as possible befor developing ideas, looking at Marian bantjes and oded ezer, they had some creative type that I felt was relevant to some types I have been trying to develop. My next developing ideas was continuing my chain idea, witch helped as I found some great ideas at this point I was still using the thicker wire and embolden some ideas I had gathered from artists. Before my next experiments, I quickly looked at Jonathan bar brook and his types. I found and idea from previous research I had to try witch was just having a go and trying random things out, I had a lot of reflecting back and fourth to pull my ideas together. As more experiments go on I looked at the canvas and sewing witch was fun as it was physical work. After that was my next idea developing, my first barbed wire idea was introduced, this was important as it exednup being the initial type. I had found better ways to spin the wire, first trying adding the barbed bits. Along the way I got used to specific ways of doing it. At this point I wanted to expand my chain to bracelet, I was loving this as it was apart of my interests. Working with wire is very fiddly and was hard to get around, I tried better wire and more ways of exacuting the idea, referencing and reflecting on all developments and analysis. I had started experiments on all my ideas. This new wire I bought extended the ablutity of what I could achieve by then I had my head screwed on to the idea, had my type made and worked on my idea, I had explain what I wanted to do and my process’s. I show my progress of what I’ve done and what I’m onto.

I had them to get all my photos of the clothes on and off, edit my images and cut out the alphabet, all I needed to do then it put it all together. This process involved a lot of physical testing.

Editing my image I used photoshop for the most parts then I did some extras for the 3D images on premier pro. I had cut out the letters I need to spell out the words for the words in the final images. It didn’t take too long, was just a lot of cutting out and testing, I happily edited the photos on top of each other.

Based on the information collected during my ethnographic work focusing my attention on the everyday understandings of dengue fever, and paying particular attention to the different ways in which the subjects that have had dengue described the experience of being unwell, I decided to re-work (collaboratively) all the information gathered so far, to create elements that reflect the ideas of how dengue fever is understood in various different contexts.

Promoters of public health have not taken into consideration the points of view of the patients or those who have had the disease. They design campaigns based on an entomological and clinical point of view, following a standard template where you see health staff –dressed in laboratory coats– talking about environmental hygiene and the purposes of sanitation. In addition, humour doesn’t play a role in the design of the campaigns.

In order to collaboratively create an intervention that reproduces the way Luis Fernando and Sara experienced the disease (you can find information about the ways in which they described the experience of being unwell by accessing my PhD blog: www.anthropologyartscience.blogspot.com), we asked Alejandro Uribe, Sarita Álvarez and Juan Camilo Ortega for their help. They are part of Bimana, a collective of artist that creates a variety of large-scale interventions and performances combining a solar balloon, plastic bags, kites, makeup, prosthetics design, and special effects. The idea was to create a fictional character, or a comic anti-hero, that would appear in the public space of the city, creating an active dialogue with different peoples.

Acknowledgments:

I am extremely grateful with the subjects of this ethnography Sara and Luis Fernando. Special thanks to the ‘Bimana Producciones’ team (Alejandro Uribe, Sarita Álvarez and Juan Camilo Ortega), the kite-flyer Andrés Ramírez and the actor Emilio Arango. I would also like to thank the rest of the people that helped during the public experiment: Pablo López, Lucía Tobón, Sara Ibarra, Susana Valencia, Hernán Marín, Mario Valencia, and Gustavo Ramírez.

Feel like you've got no one to talk to? No one to understand you? Guidance counselors will listen, you just need to give them a chance!

You never really get a good understanding of poverty until you've passed through a place called Floodway....

There, you'll see all sorts of different people with different pursuits, different attitudes, different likes and dislikes... They have one thing in common, though-----POVERTY...

For ordinary people with ordinary jobs who are not the least bit contented with what they have, you have to wonder----- why? Why can't one be content with eating 3 square meals a day when other people out there, near us, practically our neighbors, can't even scrounge up enough money to provide one decent meal for their families??

Why, with what we have, do we still complain on how traffic it is when we should be thankful we have a car..? Why complain about washing the dirty dishes when we've just enjoyed a full course meal? Why complain of sweeping the floor and wiping down dirt when we should be feeling lucky that we have a roof over our heads??

The people in floodway have the sewers for their water, the construction sites for their playground and the road, with its numerous vehicles passing them by, as their form of amusement.. When you really think about it, THEY are the lucky ones... They do not want and want and when they get, they don't complain... THEY are happy with what they have, whatever that may be and however small the quantity is... It is US who should be envious of them and not the other way around.. If only people, myself included, can see life from Floodway's point of view and perspective, the world would be a much happier place...

Please join us for a conversation on understanding modern anti-Semitism in Europe. Following the tragic Charlie Hebdo, Toulouse and Copenhagen attacks, what is the current state of security for Jewish communities in Europe and what are the driving forces behind this surge in anti-Semitic violence? As economies weaken and a migration crisis grows, nationalist, populist, and xenophobic sentiment has increased across Europe. Are failed multicultural and integration policies, shifting demographics, and fading memories of the Holocaust to blame? What steps should governments and civil society take – beyond enhancing security at Jewish schools and synagogues – to bridge cross-cultural divides and enhance societal cohesion? Our panelists will help us understand the dynamics driving Europe's anti-Semitism as well as reflect on the difficulties that governments and societies face in combating this trend.

What is a Tarot Reading?

Tarot reading refers to reading the tarot cards and understanding the meaning behind them. Usually, people with psychic abilities or psychics are responsible for reading tarot cards. Tarot cards include seventy-eight cards, and each card is a representation of what we aspire from our lives, and what our endgame would be in the future. The process of tarot reading is synonymous with accessing your subconscious mind to unleash our true abilities.

How Can I Use Tarot Cards?

Reading tarot cards is ideal for understanding self-growth, making decisions, fulfilling goals, meditating, and for finding a particular purpose in your life.

How does Tarot Card work?

The work ability and process regarding tarot cards is a mystery, and it intrigues its practitioners to learn about the elements involved in the working of the cards. The involved elements constitute the entire process of the tarot cards, which typically consists of a Querent, Reader, and a Question. The following factors determine how the tarot cards work:

The Querent

The process of tarot reading initiates at the Querent phase, which involves a person who aims to have a reading of his fate. The Querent is desirable to learn regarding their future and present tactics—which is presented to the Reader. The requester might be not convinced of what they want to learn in the reading sessions but, they mostly have a crude idea of what they could be expecting from a tarot reading. If he is having trouble in formulating a question, he can open up to the Reader who can assemble the question on behalf of the Querent.

The Reader:

For tarot reading, a Reader is equipped with the psychic abilities to read the cards and answer the questions of the Querent. The Reader is selected by a Querent. The Reader is blessed with the gifts and abilities to interpret the meaning behind the tarot card in their own ways.

The Question:

In a tarot reading, the Question plays a crucial role in answering to the concerns of a Querent. A majority of the Readers ask their Querents to be specific with their questions while, other Readers ask the Querent to provide them with a general idea of their desires, and they craft a question using the provided information. If you approach a reader for tarot card reading, you should ask them their preferred way of starting a tarot reading. Few readers gravitate toward asking open-ended questions, while some readers tend to delve into close-ended questions.

Spreads

In tarot card reading, the spread acts as an arrangement of cards, which is related to the arbitrary aspects of the question asked from a reader. The spread of the cards includes Three Fates and a Celtic Cross to determine the answer to a particular question. The Three Fates consists of three cards, and each card represents the past, present, and the future respectively.

On the contrary, the spread of the Celtic Cross is a compilation of ten cards, and each card illustrates the past and future aspirations, desires, and personal conflicts.

Sources of Knowledge

Knowing a source of knowledge in reading tarot cards play a vital role in attending to the question of a querent. A psychic or a reader is blessed with the ability to read tarot cards and to understand the implications behind them. The deck of the tarot cards acts as a medium which enables the readers to showcase their gifted abilities to the people.

A psychic is born with the abilities to understand the meaning behind the question of a querent to grant him an answer; however, several readers take time to enhance their sources of knowledge to be able to craft a genuine and authentic response to the query of their querent.

Better data is becoming available on economic activity within countries, often much exceeding the available information of economic activity across countries. This creates new research opportunities for testing economic theory, analyzing market structures and the sources of market segmentation, and making predictions of how economic shocks propagate across space. The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers from urban economics, industrial organization, health economics, and international trade to study production and trade within and across countries.

My understanding is that is now known as Broadstone Plaza or the Broadstone Gate and the original plan is described below:

"The Broadstone Gate will provide a key access to the Grangegorman site once complete and is being developed as part of the Luas Cross City works. It will be finished as a public plaza and the access will provide a major linkage between Grangegorman and Dublin city."

"The plaza is situated off Constitution Hill on the site of the old royal canal at the former Great Weatern Railway Station commonly known as Broadstone, and will mark a prominent entrance to the Grangegorman urban quarter."

"Under the Grangegorman Masterplan, the primary urban path through Grangegorman – St Brendan’s Way will link with the Broadstone Gate which when completed will reach as far as Prussia Street. The link with Broadstone can also be seen as an extension to the 18th century historic spine of Dublin City which covered Dublin Castle across Grattan Bridge, along Capel Street/Bolton Street, Henrietta Street and King’s Inn."

The new pedestrian/cyclist link between Grangegorman and Constitution Hill was officially opened in November. This link in its current format is temporary until site development in that area is completed. The initial opening hours for the link are Monday – Friday, from 7am – 4pm and on Saturdays, from 7.30am – 2pm. I have been advised by the Grangegorman Development Agency that it intends to expand these opening hours soon.

As you can see from my photographs the Plaza Area is currently a building site but I am hoping that it will be complete within a few months.
