From the museum label: Cezanne often left his paintings in what would have been considered during the 20th century as an unfinished state. He left parts of the canvas unpainted, developed compositions using thinned translucent paints and washes, and included forms that might appear unresolved. Today artists have much more autonomy in deciding when, and in which state of execution, a work is finished. Grand Bouquet of Flowers emphasises Cezanne's own understanding of completeness, or realisation. Impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) reputedly claimed that Cezanne 'cannot put two touches of colour on to a canvas without its being already an achievement'.

She brought it
From her country
Whenever I asked
About it
She quickly changed
The subject
One day she told me
About a man
Who had waited
Ten years
For her to return
With tears in her eyes
She said "Mica, I think
That is true love"
I shall always remember

And wonder

University of Iowa Health Care partnered with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to host an educational experience, Pennies for Patients. LLS challenged middle school students to collect pennies which would be donated to LLS. The top two schools had the opportunity to visit UI Health Care for an educational experience. We would like to congratulate the winning schools, Clinton Middle School and MFL Marmac Middle School for all of their fundraising efforts.
These students learned about research being done on cancer at the UI Carver College of Medicine. They sat in a presentation with Dr. George J Weiner and then toured the research labs of Dr. Weiner, Gail Bishop, and Al Klingelhutz to better understand cancer and what it would be like to work in research. Students then engaged in hands-on activities with current medical students at the Carver College of Medicine to simulate what medical school is like. Activities included learning about bone health and the healing process of casting, and learning how to take basic physical exams through the use of stethoscopes, reflex hammers and blood pressure cuffs. Finally students had a Q & A session with two current Carver College of Medicine students who gave them a behind-the-scenes look at what being a medical student is really like to help them determine if that is something they would want to pursue in their futures.
A special thanks to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, UI Hospitals and Clinics Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the UI Carver College of Medicine as this program would not have been possible without such great partnerships.
University of Iowa Health Care is committed partners with formal and informal educators and community organizations across the state to advance STEM literacy to inspire the next generation of health care professionals and build a foundation for children to understanding their own health. In FY2015, more than 16,000 school age children were engaged in hands on learning provided by 260 faculty, staff and students.

My understanding is that is now known as Broadstone Plaza or the Broadstone Gate and the original plan is described below:
"The Broadstone Gate will provide a key access to the Grangegorman site once complete and is being developed as part of the Luas Cross City works. It will be finished as a public plaza and the access will provide a major linkage between Grangegorman and Dublin city."
"The plaza is situated off Constitution Hill on the site of the old royal canal at the former Great Weatern Railway Station commonly known as Broadstone, and will mark a prominent entrance to the Grangegorman urban quarter."
"Under the Grangegorman Masterplan, the primary urban path through Grangegorman – St Brendan’s Way will link with the Broadstone Gate which when completed will reach as far as Prussia Street. The link with Broadstone can also be seen as an extension to the 18th century historic spine of Dublin City which covered Dublin Castle across Grattan Bridge, along Capel Street/Bolton Street, Henrietta Street and King’s Inn."
The new pedestrian/cyclist link between Grangegorman and Constitution Hill was officially opened in November. This link in its current format is temporary until site development in that area is completed. The initial opening hours for the link are Monday – Friday, from 7am – 4pm and on Saturdays, from 7.30am – 2pm. I have been advised by the Grangegorman Development Agency that it intends to expand these opening hours soon.
As you can see from my photographs the Plaza Area is currently a building site but I am hoping that it will be complete within a few months.

BILL MOYERS: You say, "…the way the human mind is built, antipathy can impede comprehension." Rationality. "Hating protestors, flag burners and even terrorists makes it harder to understand them well enough to keep others from joining their ranks."
ROBERT WRIGHT: It's a tricky balance to strike because on the one hand, understanding terrorists and how they became terrorists, which is in our interests if we want to discourage the creation of more terrorists, tends to involve a kind of sympathy that in turn can lead you to say they are not to blame for what they did.
And you don't want to say that because as a practical matter you have to punish people when you can when they do bad things. So you don't want to let go of the idea of moral culpability but you do need to kind of put yourself in their heads. And that is really a great challenge in the modern world.

The McGee group is going to the ends of the earth to understand how precipitation patterns respond to climate change. Recognizing that past changes provide unique opportunities to test our understanding of the climate system, the group is building high-resolution records of past precipitation changes in sensitive regions around the world using natural precipitation archives such as lake deposits and stalagmites. In the past two years this work has taken the group to shorelines preserving records of large ancient lakes in the deserts of the western U.S. and subtropical South America, to caves in the Yucatan peninsula and deep inside islands in Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, and onto a drill rig sampling deeply buried lake sediments in the high tropical Andes.

Understanding Leeds Most Common Crimes
Leeds is the largest city in the county if West Yorkshire, that is highly popular and known for its shopping, nightlife, universities, and sport. It is a city also known for its parks and beautiful green spaces that make it a very appealing city for tourists and visitors.
However, in past years Leeds has been known and recognized for its high crime rate. This is something that has reflected negatively on the city, deterring visitors and impacting on Leeds residents’ movements around the city. Despite Leeds’s crime ridden past, the past year or so has shown an overall decline in crimes committed, with a 2.6 per cent reduction in offences in West Yorkshire in 2019/20, and around 7,600 fewer victims, according to the West Yorkshire Police.
What are these crimes that are still being committed?
New police data, obtained by the Yorkshire Evening Post under the Freedom of Information (FOI) ACT, has revealed the nine most commonly recorded crimes in north Leeds wards from April 2019 to March 2020. Here they are:
1. Violence Without Injury
There were a total of 5,335 violent crimes without injury recorded in Leeds within this time frame.
2. Burglary – Residential

Catholicism and Judaism are two distinct religious traditions that have influenced societies and histories over the centuries.
Although both have rich theological and cultural origins, they differ significantly in their beliefs and practices.
We will explore the most important differences between Catholicism and Judaism, shedding light on their main teachings, rituals and interpretations of scripture.
.
While it is crucial to appreciate the uniqueness of each faith, it is also essential to address a persistent problem faced by both: anti-Semitism.
Anti-Semitism refers to discrimination, prejudice or hatred against Jewish people based on their religious beliefs and cultural identity.
It has had devastating effects throughout history, culminating in the Holocaust during World War II.
.
By understanding the distinctions between Catholicism and Judaism, along with the history and impact of anti-Semitism, we can promote greater respect, tolerance, and mutual understanding between these two communities.
Follow this enlightening exploration of faith and its implications.
.
Introduction to Catholicism and Judaism
Catholicism and Judaism are two of the oldest and most influential religions in the world.
Both have deep roots in history and sacred scriptures.
Catholicism is a Christian religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, while Judaism is an Abrahamic religion dating back to biblical times.
.
Main beliefs and practices of Catholicism
Catholicism is a religion based on faith in Jesus Christ as the son of God and Savior of humanity.
Catholics believe in the Holy Trinity - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - and in life after death.
They follow the teachings of the Bible and Church tradition, which includes sacraments such as baptism, confirmation, and communion.
.
The Mass, or Eucharist, is a central element of Catholic worship.
During Mass, the faithful participate in the celebration of Jesus' Last Supper, where the bread and wine are consecrated to become the body and blood of Christ.
Catholics also have devotion to the Virgin Mary and the saints, seeking their intercession and inspiration.
.
Main beliefs and practices of Judaism
Judaism is a monotheistic religion that focuses on the worship of a single God, Yahweh.
Jews consider the Torah, the Pentateuch, to be the central holy scripture, which contains the first five books of the Hebrew Bible.
They also value oral and written traditions, such as the Talmud and Midrash, which interpret and expand the teachings of the Torah.
Observance of the commandments, known as mitzvot, is a fundamental aspect of Judaism.
These include keeping the Sabbath, eating kosher, and male circumcision.
Judaism also emphasizes the importance of prayer, social justice, and Torah study.
The synagogue is the place of worship and communal gathering for Jews.
.
The history of Catholicism and Judaism
Catholicism has its origins in the ministry of Jesus Christ, who is considered the founder of the Catholic Church.
After Jesus' death, his followers spread and spread their beliefs throughout the world, establishing Christian communities.
In the fourth century, Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, and the Catholic Church played a central role in the political and religious life of medieval Europe.
.
Judaism dates back to biblical times, with the story of Abraham and his descendants.
The Jews were enslaved in Egypt, freed by Moses and received the Law on Mount Sinai.
Throughout history, they have faced persecution, exiles and diasporas, but have maintained their identity and beliefs.
The creation of the State of Israel in 1948 was a significant milestone in the revival of Judaism as a national and religious identity.
.
Differences in religious texts and teachings
One of the main differences between Catholicism and Judaism is in the central religious texts and teachings.
Catholicism is based on the Bible, which includes the Old and New Testaments.
The Old Testament is shared with Judaism and contains the sacred scriptures of the Jews.
However, for Catholics, the New Testament, which chronicles the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, is of equal importance.
Judaism, in turn, considers the Torah as the word of God revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai.
The Torah is made up of the five books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
In addition to the Torah, Jews also value the Talmud, which contains the interpretation and application of the teachings of the Torah.
