To Raurus,

Thank you for enriching our lives for so many years.

You will always be in our hearts, and I will never forget all the joy, unconditional love and companionship that I had the privilege to experience.

Even when I worked late, you waited up for me, and refused to go and sleep until I came to tuck you in.

On the day we met.

Amongst all the puppies, I immediate knew you were the one, and you immediately chose me as well. I actually woke up on that day, and knew that I could go and find you waiting for me and come home with my dog.

You were always by my side, and I miss you so much...

Your best friend, Martin.

Abused, Abandoned Jungle Dogs.

So here's the story behind this photo.

Figured sense I was spending most of my

time in bed and needed fresh photos of

the dogs in action I'd take advantage of

this opportunity. Now they are all laying

around the bed keeping a close eye

on yours truly. Pulled out a D300

with the much lighter 17-55 2.8

and instantly Pumpkin started

talking in her deep yawning.

And of course this triggered The Pipsqueak.

Mr Boney Baloney opened one eye and

went right back to sleep. This is a case

of the tail wagging the dog as both

dogs are dancing an singing ;-)-

Pumpkin knows when the camera comes

out it's time to showoff 4 her flickr fans.

That's my right leg you see as I'm

sitting on the edge of the bed.

After a couple of minutes of dancing an singing

they both wandered outside and laid in the sun.

And after a couple minutes in the hot tropical

sun they called it quits and came back inside.

There ya go, a small slice of our life ;-)

Thank You.

We're very thankful that Bruno is feeling better. It got pretty scary there for about a week when he had blood in his stool, though his puppy energy never seemed to wane. He's such a blast. The fence and thicket of branches behind him is what I had to shoot through to get the recent coyote shots.

Back Story .........................................

Left at 5:30AM in the middle of a monsoon downpour.

Scooter sidecar was packed with a bunch of dog stuff.

Everything is wrapped and strapped to keep rain out.

Numerous times I had to pull over under some kind of

cover due to the monsoon just being way to much !!!

Finally showed up at the monkey temple. Pulled into The

Dog Palace and Mama wasn't there. No Big Deal, I know

where she is. And where's that you ask ? At The Nuns...;-)

Opened the bingo room flipped the light switch and once

again there's no power. All the way out thunder an lightning

was a major issue. So, that explains the "no power dilemma"

Prepared the food bags and food bowls, stepped outside

and sent a shrill whistle across The DMZ. That was easier

then climbing the steps all the way to the roof and whistling.

Few minutes later a very wet Mama came racing into the

bingo room. And yes she smelled like a wet dog who'd

been shinny dipping in the swamp with the monkeys !

Soon enough we were crossing the concrete walking bridge.

Miss Legs the Zoomer and Rocky met up with us and off we

go to the spirit house.FYI: All the dogs are wet and smelly !

Photo shows Mama with a wet nose but believe me when I

say her entire body is soaked and stinks !!!

From the spirit house I stop with The Hooligans and do our

usual feeding exercise as Mama,Rocky and The Zoomer

wait at the boundary line.

Next Mama and I head back to The Dog Palace where Mama

is given a bath.

And all dog people here know what that can be like, or not !

At 9AM Miss Legs the Zoomer is loaded into the sidecar and

we takeoff for the dog doctor. Time 4 her yearly inoculations.

Rain slowed down but never stopped ! Everything is soaked !

Lets backup a little, reason for Mamas bath was so she could

go to the dog doctor 2. There's a nasty skin problem that she

has chewed on till it's bleeding . Now after her bath Mama said

no way am I going 4 a ride in this bad weather, no way no way !

These double round trips really wear me down, especially

when it's done in a monsoon with hard horizontal winds !

Not complaining, just stating the facts.Catch y'all on the rebound.

Mama saying thank you for all your help.

You have saved my life along with all

the other abandoned temple dogs.

This is a very tough jungle environment

where only the strong survive. Your

help has given not only myself

but also all my friends a

much better life.

Thank You ;-)

Mama.

-------------------

Tomorrow morning I'll be heading to

The Monkey Temple with the usual

monthly medications for all the dogs.

The last few days it has been raining

non-stop as the monsoons make their

presence known. Hope there's a break

in the down-pour for tomorrows run ! ! !

I too say Thank You for all your help in

easing the pain an suffering these dogs

have experienced daily from abuse and

from being abandoned in a brutal jungle.

Through your donations these dogs have a

better chance at overcoming the pain/agony.

Sometimes a local expat will ask if I'm still going

out into the jungle to feed the abandoned dogs.

They complain about the on-going dangers and

filthy conditions the monkeys create out there !

My reply never wavers, "Yes, why wouldn't I ?"

#TributeToMyBabyGirl #RIPFebruary2017

It's been six yeas since Alex died, and what better day that to remember our marvelous, mischievous, and downright merry Cairn Terrier that improved our lives for 13 years. A typical terrier - our fourth in 47 years - he was both fun and funny, but he knew how to get to us. When we'd come home after two days or two hours - you'd have to be a dog love to understand this - he was all tongue and wag!

The inevitable question comes up with friends, why don't you get another. You love dogs so much, they have to improve any life. Well, that would probably be true, but we're probably not going to outlive another dog, and that would just be unfair to the dog. And our kids and grandkids live an hour from us. We can get up an leave at any time and without any worry. And there's no worry about kennels and vets. Vet bills alone could put one of our grandkids through a year of college.

It's a constant struggle. We miss that tongue and tail, but freedom is important, too. And the exercise (Alex demanded five to six miles a day - hey, he was a terrier) kept me trim(mer) and left me no time to feel sorry fr myself. Owning a dog is a most pleasant responsibility. Worrying about them not so much. So here's to you Alex. We won't forget you...or Perky, Patches, and Max.Ach was different; each was the same from Sealeyham, to Wire Fox, to Norfolk, and then to Cairn. There's something missing from our lives but at the same time we just can't go through the final days again.

And yet, life doesn't seem complete...

If you want to read two marvelous books, I whole-heartedly recommend "The Gift of Pets: Stories Only a Vet Could Tell" and it's "sequel," "Ask the Animals: A Vet's-Eye View of Pets and the People They Love." I only wish he would write a third one.

Mama & Rocky always receive extra

attention, because, that's why .......;-)

That's not to say every-other temple dog

doesn't get their fair share of attention

as well. Belly rubs are a given 4 some.

They all have their own special needs.

Making plans for a run tomorrow as it's

time for their monthly medications that

ward off mange, heart worm and a long

list of other parasites. Looks like it maybe

a real wet, wild ride tomorrow ! Even now

the sky is very dark gray with heavy drizzle.

Important part- the temple dogs desperately

need their medications to survive in this

brutal, unforgiving jungle environment.

thank you everyone for the really sweet comments on yesterday's photo.. just to clarify- i never show him anything scary or inappropriate like the halloween shots- he's usually says 'mommy's broken' when i do the texture overlay shots ( meg, i think you know me better than that)

we are in the middle of another snow storm.. and i couldn't get a nap out of ben today, so i had to make it work with terrible lighting and my little helper..

he really loves to participate in taking photos- hitting the remote button.. but he doesn't take direction very well.. and is usually jumping around like a maniac..so even though we did another one of these shots ( have a few in my stream already) i'm thrilled that it turned out decent

Miss Molly is a real sweetheart ;-)

Ride out to The Monkey Temple

was dry and relatively uneventful.

All temple dogs were cared for.

Mr No Name and Little Lisa

were missing .....;-(

Mr Gibbon was waiting for me

inside of his cage.He was fed.

Here's another story for you.

Over by The Spirit Cave there's

a man built pool, not very large.

Couple months ago there was

2 dozen guppies or less. Now

there's about 2 thousand or less.

I've always thrown a couple hand-

fulls of kibble in the pond.As the

kibble bobs around mi-neut pieces

fall off and the colorful guppies eat

every bit until everything is consumed.

And here's one more story about the nuns.

I've always wanted to share the photos that

y'all see here on flickr with them. So here's

what I did to solve that problem. My friend

Mr SideCar Man set up a color printer and

by using A4 paper the project was started

yesterday. Why use A4 paper you ask ?

Because this is just the pilot portion of this

project and the cost factor had to be

calculated into the budget.

Each A4 sheet held two 5x7 photos, and 36

photos were copied. The Nuns went crazy

with happiness.Huge Big Time Happy ;-)~

Ladies & Gentlemen, this was very exciting

to see the nuns jabbering away like two

young teenage girls swooning over

a heartthrob movie actor..;-)

Obviously it will be happening again real soon.

Over time a few will be selected as keepers

and be reprinted on glossy A4 photo paper.

I just couldn't believe how excited they were.

This makes me feel good about all that has

gone into forming these friendships. . .;-)

We said goodbye to Blue yesterday. She had two days left at a high-kill shelter in KY when we drove through the night from Chicago to save her from being gassed in a big metal box with god knows how many other dogs. It was the second time she had been left there in 6 months. Took longer to fill out the paperwork than to decide she was coming home. From the moment she hopped in the car with us, complete strangers and for 13+ yrs after that, just the most perfect dog. The unfairness of life didn't spare her. Blind by 8 yrs old and deaf for the last year and a half. Still, she never asked for a thing and we could not think of a single thing she'd ever done wrong. The most tranquil, loving and trusting dog I've ever known. Goodbye my sweet baby.

Fozzie after his grooming appt the other day......nice and clean and handsome!

Our sweetest Blue girl turned 14 the end of August. Blind for six years now and almost completely deaf for a year. I don't know how she musters the will to go on, but does so with complete grace. She asks for nothing yet my heart still breaks every day as it has since she went blind. When will I be wise enough to learn the lessons I need to learn from her?

Blast-off! Our little sweetest and intense baby.

I really like the fall colors in this shot & Lylah's eyes but I think the light & depth in the sepia & bw look really good so I posted all
