We said goodbye to Blue yesterday. She had two days left at a high-kill shelter in KY when we drove through the night from Chicago to save her from being gassed in a big metal box with god knows how many other dogs. It was the second time she had been left there in 6 months. Took longer to fill out the paperwork than to decide she was coming home. From the moment she hopped in the car with us, complete strangers and for 13+ yrs after that, just the most perfect dog. The unfairness of life didn't spare her. Blind by 8 yrs old and deaf for the last year and a half. Still, she never asked for a thing and we could not think of a single thing she'd ever done wrong. The most tranquil, loving and trusting dog I've ever known. Goodbye my sweet baby.

Amy's humans are first-time dog people. Amy, like everyone else who meets her, finds Blue irresistible.

Mama & Rocky always receive extra

attention, because, that's why .......;-)

That's not to say every-other temple dog

doesn't get their fair share of attention

as well. Belly rubs are a given 4 some.

They all have their own special needs.

Making plans for a run tomorrow as it's

time for their monthly medications that

ward off mange, heart worm and a long

list of other parasites. Looks like it maybe

a real wet, wild ride tomorrow ! Even now

the sky is very dark gray with heavy drizzle.

Important part- the temple dogs desperately

need their medications to survive in this

brutal, unforgiving jungle environment.

Here's another story for you.

Over by The Spirit Cave there's

a man built pool, not very large.

Couple months ago there was

2 dozen guppies or less. Now

there's about 2 thousand or less.

I've always thrown a couple hand-

fulls of kibble in the pond.As the

kibble bobs around mi-neut pieces

fall off and the colorful guppies eat

every bit until everything is consumed.

And here's one more story about the nuns.

I've always wanted to share the photos that

y'all see here on flickr with them. So here's

what I did to solve that problem. My friend

Mr SideCar Man set up a color printer and

by using A4 paper the project was started

yesterday. Why use A4 paper you ask ?

Because this is just the pilot portion of this

project and the cost factor had to be

calculated into the budget.

Each A4 sheet held two 5x7 photos, and 36

photos were copied. The Nuns went crazy

with happiness.Huge Big Time Happy ;-)~

Ladies & Gentlemen, this was very exciting

to see the nuns jabbering away like two

young teenage girls swooning over

a heartthrob movie actor..;-)

Obviously it will be happening again real soon.

Over time a few will be selected as keepers

and be reprinted on glossy A4 photo paper.

I just couldn't believe how excited they were.

This makes me feel good about all that has

gone into forming these friendships. . .;-)

thank you everyone for the really sweet comments on yesterday's photo.. just to clarify- i never show him anything scary or inappropriate like the halloween shots- he's usually says 'mommy's broken' when i do the texture overlay shots ( meg, i think you know me better than that)

we are in the middle of another snow storm.. and i couldn't get a nap out of ben today, so i had to make it work with terrible lighting and my little helper..

he really loves to participate in taking photos- hitting the remote button.. but he doesn't take direction very well.. and is usually jumping around like a maniac..so even though we did another one of these shots ( have a few in my stream already) i'm thrilled that it turned out decent

:)

Our sweetest Blue girl turned 14 the end of August. Blind for six years now and almost completely deaf for a year. I don't know how she musters the will to go on, but does so with complete grace. She asks for nothing yet my heart still breaks every day as it has since she went blind. When will I be wise enough to learn the lessons I need to learn from her?

Blast-off! Our little sweetest and intense baby.

I really like the fall colors in this shot & Lylah's eyes but I think the light & depth in the sepia & bw look really good so I posted all

I've been working way too many hours with the move of the store, and wiped out each night. I think Fozzie has the right idea....he's so dang cute here!!!

As if the insult of gong blind were not bad enough, Blue is now losing her hearing very rapidly. Still, she bumps along through life, loving everyone, never fearful of anything.

Buster's knee continues to improve without surgery. We'll know in a couple of weeks if he's dodged the bullet for sure. I forgot how nice this 105mm can be for portraits.

I have a friend who loves in the most perfectly pure way and with his unconditional love makes me feel perfect and very loved too. This is for him. In my own way I love you - I hope you know that. x

The colours at the beach were just perfect today. It was lovely and warm with a cool breeze blowing. I love these days. I would've liked more waves - it was completely flat with hardly any splashes. O well, there's always tomorrow... :)

Care Mother at Rainy Rock Beach, Pondicherry

It's so hard to reckon how sick he is when he feels like this so much of the time. Blame it on his youth. A visit to a second internal medicine specialist, where they performed an ultrasound, revealed a thickening of two of the layers of his small intestines. No official diagnosis can be rendered without biopsies. Unfortunately the section that is thickened cannot be reached by endoscopy and they would therefore need to open him up and take biopsies that way. Some good news; back on antibiotics, a strict diet of ground beef and oatmeal and for 4 days has not had any blood or mucous in his stool. I will also be giving him Vitamin B12 injections weekly. The first one was today and my gosh I was nervous as I hate needles, but it went just fine and he didn't even flinch. Please keep my sweetest boy in your thoughts.

»-(¯`v´¯)-» Week 126: A HUG & A KISS »-(¯`v´¯)-»

For 15 months our hearts were breaking. It was like watching Bruno die in slow motion. Two regular vets, two internal medicine specialists, ultrasounds, endless blood work, two different antibiotics, probiotics, extremely expensive prescription food, all with nearly no improvement as he continued to waste away. For the doctors, the next (and only) alternative was invasive surgery to collect biopsies of Bruno's intestinal tract, which terrified us. Feeling there was nothing to lose we decided to try transitioning Bruno to a raw diet. It was the one thing all the doctors never seemed willing to suggest.

I'll cut to the chase.

35 days ago we started by giving him a raw turkey neck in addition to the ground beef and oatmeal the second specialist had him on. Under close supervision, he knew exactly how to eat it, mashing it up very well before swallowing. The same on day 2, but this time he was not so interested in the ground beef/oatmeal. This was very surprising because he loved it. On day 3, he would not eat the ground beef/oatmeal. We were shocked. What we had planned to be a slow transition over several weeks was over in three days. His condition has improved dramatically almost overnight. He has not had blood and mucous in his stool, he has stopped vomiting and has gained three pounds. We're fine tuning the diet to get it well balanced nutritionally, but this is not difficult as dogs' bodies are able to get nearly everything they need from meat, fat and bone.

I know he's not completely out of the woods, but this turn around has given us great hope and tears of joy.
