SHDW & Obscure Shape founded From Another Mind in April of 2014, a party which brought their favorite artists to their hometown of Stuttgart, in Southern German.

Of course the natural progression from promoting a successful club night is founding an imprint that carries the night´s ideals on to the decks of likeminded DJs, and so the first From Another Mind record was released in 2015, a stellar debut for both the label and its producers.

The “Nachtblende EP” gained wide acclaim throughout the Techno community, with the tracks receiving support from scene stalwarts, bloggers and critics alike. Aside from Rekids, where they remixed Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ last year, the pair’s abilities in the studio have seen them invited by Slam for two separate remixes of Monoloc and Envoy on Soma, as well as the highly-acclaimed Afterlife label.

Their DJing fuses old-school influences of Acid, Rave and EBM with the dramatic Techno sound one can hear on the FAM records. They are equally comfortable with the first, the last or the peak slot of a night, thus making them an universal party weapon. Though young at age, their record collection demonstrates musical knowledge some veterans can only hope to gain and they swiftly but thoughtfully moves through different periods of electronic music in their sets.

Marco Bläsi and Luigi Urban together make up the DJ and production team known throughout the world as SHDW & Obscure Shape. These two relatively young newcomers have in a very short time managed to build up a large and loyal following that continuously keeps growing with each year since their start in 2014.

2018 was a huge year for the duo, with massive gigs at European festivals throughout the continent, including Awakenings Music Festival in Amsterdam, Amsterdam Dance Event, Time Warp, Verknipt in the Netherlands, Voltage Festival in Belgium, PollerWiesen Festival , Soenda Festival in Utrecht, Stuttgart Electronic Music Festival in Germany, Telekom Electronic Beats Festival in Budapest, the massive Tomorrowland in Belgium, and many more.

Of course this was all on top of their headlining sets at clubs throughout Europe such as MMA in Munich, Fuse in Brussels, Civic Underground in Sydney, Australia, Rex Club in Paris, and many more.

The duo readies for their first ever U.S. Tour this coming Spring, with dates set for Phoenix, Chicago, San Francisco and New York City confirmed, and more in the works.

YourEDM took the chance to chat with them ahead of their upcoming trip across the pond.

Hi Marco and Luigi, it’s great to get to speak to you ahead of your debut North American tour! Are you excited to be coming over to the States?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): Hi all – excitement is an understatement for sure! It’s the first time for us touring through North America but we’ve already heard a lot of good things about the crowd, clubs and the warehouse raves. We’re not only excited about the shows but also about the culture, history, sights, nature etc.

Have either of you been here before?

Marco (SHDW): I’ve been in the states with my family in 2002. We’ve spent holidays in Detroit, Chicago and Toronto. I had an amazing time in North America so I am even more excited to be back!

What cities are you hitting up for this firs tour?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): For our first tour we’ll play in Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. We’re really looking forward to it!

Are you looking to do/see anything else in the country besides the gigs themselves?

Marco (SHDW): Of course! We love to explore the cities, visit some sights and enjoy the beautiful nature. Especially in North America are a lot of things we want to check out, e.g. the great buildings, the leisure time facilities, the history, the parks, different restaurants & shops. Hopefully we’ll have enough time for it!

How long is it that you have had the dream/idea of coming to play on this side of the world?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): We’ve been pushing our management setting up a tour in North America since a very long time. Playing on different sides of the world is always super exciting, it’s an adventure with new challenges!

Let’s back-track a bit here: how did you two meet?

Marco (SHDW): It’s already a long time ago at a party in Stuttgart! Probably in 2007 / 2008. Before we became close friends, we talked about music only. Honestly, we didn’t like each other a lot at the beginning but with the time we got to know and love each other.

One of you is SHDW and the other is Obscure Shape, but at some point you became SHDW & Obscure Shape and became one act complete with quality releases and mind-blowing sets. When did that fusion come about for good?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): First of all, we didn’t plan to become a duo although we’ve spent a lot of time together in the studio. Moreover, we’ve been working with different booking-agencies.

But the promoters wanted to book both of us and we’ve really enjoyed playing and travelling together as well, it makes it more comfortable and amusing.

Do you two live in the same city?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): No, Marco lives in Plochingen. I am living in Birkenfeld. It’s about a one hour drive away from his city! We’re both located in Southern Germany, close to Stuttgart.

How does the production process work for you guys… who does what in the studio?

Marco (SHDW): Well, we’re working on all tracks together from start to finish. We’re using mostly Ableton so far but we do have some analog machines which we’re using every now and then. The workflow really depends on the track we’re working on!

You guys have had the luck of playing smaller clubs as well as massive stages such as Awakenings, Voltage Festival, Verknipt, Tomorrowland, etc. Which one do you prefer?

Marco (SHDW): You can’t really compare a club with a festival gig. Both are great even though they’re totally different! But in general, we prefer smaller stages and clubs.

The connection with the crowd is more intimate, you can literally smell the vibe and feel the energy.

You have both founded From Another Mind, a label that was born from an event series you both run in Stuttgart. I saw there are other From Another Mind events coming up still. Do you guys still consider yourselves event promoters or are these showcases that your label is booked for now?

Marco (SHDW): For sure we still consider ourselves as event promoters. We’re always looking for new locations to host an event or even a festival as well as cooperation with clubs and other crews. It is still important for us to bring new talents to our hometown and sharing our vision of “intelligent techno” globally. It’s a lot of work but we have a really great team and talented residents. After all, we’re super happy and thankful that there’s a lot of interest by promoters to host a From Another Mind showcase.

How do you guys keep up with it all? The touring, the studio work, the label, the event series… that’s a lot of work!

Luigi (Obscure Shape): First of all, it’s true. We do have a lot of work with the touring, the label and the studio. Touring as a DJ around the world can be really exhausting and frustrating, there is a lot of pressure you have to deal with. We’re mostly on tour from Friday until Sunday. Monday is usually the “day off” to recover as we don’t sleep a lot during the weekend.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is fulfilled with going to the studio, meeting friends, business meetings, label work, etc. But we do what we love and we’re very thankful that we’re able to live our dream!

What are your secrets to working together and touring as a duo without conflicts?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): Without conflicts? Our friends say that we’re like an old couple but maybe that’s the secret? (laughs) We complement each other very good though.

Do you guys practice your sets at home/in the studio, given that it’s two of you, or how do you coordinate on the direction of a gig’s set and tracks you guys will play so it flows well?

Marco (SHDW): We don’t really practice our sets at home as we have the similar taste of music. Both of us play our own music collection but for sure we’re talking to each other during the show to see which track could fit nicely next, for example. But we don’t really prepare our sets as you never know what to expect in the club. There are so many things you don’t know before you enter the club, e.g. the crowd, the vibe, the music the DJ played before, the sound system etc.

Nevertheless, sometimes we’re going through our music collection together, testing some combos of tracks, doing edits etc.

By the way… do you have any releases coming up for 2019 you can tell us about?

Luigi (Obscure Shape): We’re super busy in the studio recently and we’ve finished a lot of tracks which will be released this year. In June, we’ll release a new 12” on our imprint “From Another Mind” followed by another full EP in November 2019.

Moreover, we did several remixes, e.g. for Daniel Avery, and some more great things are scheduled for 2019 which we don’t want to reveal yet – stay tuned!

What else is planned for SHDW & Obscure Shape this year following your first U.S. tour?

Marco (SHDW): Our agency is working hard and we’ve some really cool shows coming up, e.g. playing at the legendary Awakenings Gashouder, amazing festivals, touring through South America again, great clubs… good times ahead!

Life In Color landed this past weekend in Miami, Florida’s art district Wynwood. For this year’s latest iteration of Life In Color (more colloquially known as LIC), the people behind the “world’s largest paint party” gathered their paint cannons and their vendors to have their pink, green, yellow, blue, and orange paint bottles restocked and ready to turn a music festival into a real-life Splatoon party. With Bang energy drinks as their latest sponsor, LIC enlisted the likes of Diplo, What So Not, Said the Sky, Ray Volpe, Wooli and even Shaquille O’Neal bringing his DJ Diesel presence to the 305.

Guests entered LIC to find $5 bottles of paint readily available with artists making murals and DJs throwing down in-your-face, bass bangers. Some were dripping from being as close to the front of the stage as possible while others were adorned with small splashes of color on their white t-shirts. There was even one festival goer in attendance wearing a panda mask that was turning more and more pink as the festival raged on.

One of this year’s most interesting facets about this year’s LIC lineup is that almost all the artists work with and/or perform with bass music. All of these main stage headliners spewed riddim, dubstep, and trap anthems to an audience asking for as much bass as their was paint. From the more melodic and experimental nature of artists like What So Not and Said the Sky to the neck-breaking, adrenaline-pumping nature from the likes of Ray Volpe going back-to-back with Wooli and DJ Diesel. And each performance was solid. I was surprised to see how hyped the crowd was when Shaq would demand the crowd to start a mosh pit. At that time, three opened up simultaneously and mayhem ensued.

However, there was a second smaller stage known as the “Secret House Party” nestled into a corner of semi-dilapidated Wynwood warehouses. Here, local Miami-based talent like Lucas Larvenz, Dr. Clutch, and DENO dropped four-to-the-floor fire. Meanwhile, a team of skilled of shuffle dancers were surrounded by the partying crowd. Even Gabby J David, renowned shuffle dancer, made an appearance flexing on the concrete dancefloor. It was like a legendary 1990s rave but updated by 2019’s standards.

Life In Color has changed a lot since its inception. After several college paint parties took off in the early 2000s, these organizers envisioned a greater scope that these paint parties could have. From there, they created Dayglow which hosted events in Miami’s nightclubs and eventually touring with the concept for college crowds to party across the country. After Dayglow was bought by SFX Entertainment (now known as LiveStyle) in 2012, they rebranded as Life In Color and began to have larger lineups. This included starring headliners such as Calvin Harris, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Steve Aoki, Marshmello, Alesso and many more. By 2016, LIC made a new home in Wynwood where it has been hosting the flagship paint party ever since.

The evening concluded with a lengthy and varied set from Diplo. The Mad Decent label boss and hit producer has been a longtime headliner for LIC from their earliest time as Dayglow performing at their events as a solo artist or as part of groups like Major Lazer and Jack Ü. In other words, Diplo was and is the most appropriate act that could ever headline Life In Color ever. His set contained mixtures of songs like the Sheck Wes anthem “Mo Bamba” with Zomboy’s remix of “Follow” by Bro Safari as well as his own hits like “Waist Time” with Autoerotique or “Get It Right” with MØ. Diplo closed out the festival with a crowd left behind satisfied from a day of head-banging, mosh-pitting, and general paint-related debauchery.

Overall, Life In Color 2019 was a stellar party. All the headliners performed to a crowd gobbling up every song, remix, and mashup blasting through their speakers. The crowd got their towels and dried themselves of all the wet colors splattered all over their bodies before hopping into their cars and Ubers. Even though this year sacrificed variety in its lineup across the offered artists, LIC put together a consistent lineup of bass-focused artists who have enough personality to stand apart from each other. It would be interesting to see if LIC doubles down on sticking to being a bass music festival or one that switches to other genres like house, hip-hop, or Latin music. Either way, Life In Color will always be the “world’s largest paint party” no matter what music’s hosting the show.

The arctic blast that’s sat on top of north Texas for the past week has led to MANY stir-crazy days for young ones stuck at home. While our neighbors to the north may scoff at our inability to play outside in temperatures that dip below freezing, true Texans know that our blood is just too thin for that.

In an attempt to keep the kids from crawling up the walls, we have compiled a list of the best indoor play places in the Metroplex that will let your little one expend all that pent-up energy, and allow you to take a short break from the mayhem! Let us know if you can think of any places we forgot—we still have many cold days ahead!

For those who need to run

If you are longing for the days when it was warm enough to hit the playground for tag and other running games, look no further than the indoor alternative “The Coop” in Frisco. Not only does this play space feature ball pits, tunnels, and slides for the little ones, but it also has free wifi, a cappuccino bar (especially handy during those cold-snaps), and an array of magazines for moms and dads.

If you feel like you’re really going bonkers, then you should head to Lewisville’s indoor play space Going Bonkers. Standing five levels high and featuring zip lines, slides and climbing structures, this gym encourages kids and adults to play together through some truly adventurous feats. Skip the gym and get your heart rate up climbing through this one-of-a-kind indoor maze!

Get smarter by playing

With all the breaks from school compounded by “snow and ice days,” you might think your kids need a little extra education on top of burning off excess energy. Ditch the flashcards and head to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science for a hands-on learning experience. From exploring outer space, to engineering and innovation to dinosaurs, this museum has something for everyone. Make sure to reserve tickets in advance, and plan to spend the whole day there. Learning has never been so fun!

If you feel like your little ones are always underfoot and copying everything you do, try out the Play Street Museum that lets kids recreate what they see at home in a child-friendly space. Whether that’s helping in the kitchen or building with play masonry tools, here the children are in charge. In addition to being fun, kids get to use their imagination and interact with other children through play.

Low-cost activities

As the number of cold days continue to add up, it is important to find inexpensive options as well. The Dallas Museum of Art offers free admission and features two separate areas dedicated to children. Featuring interactive activities, puzzles and toys, your children will foster a love of museums early in life.

Many malls in our area also have free indoor play areas. Generally geared towards the younger babes, these soft play structures are a great pit stop when you need to run errands. Also, if you go before the stores open, it’s just about guaranteed to be empty!

Finally, check out local YMCA’s or recreation centers that have indoor pools. Winter is a great time to practice swimming skills and get ready for the warm months that are right around the corner. Many local pools don’t require a membership fee—just a one-time ticket to get in.

Don’t let the cold months keep you inside and bored. The DFW metroplex is full of activities that will allow your kids to expel energy, broaden their horizons and learn new things!

If a super villain ever needed a new way to torture someone, they should consider sticking them with a bunch of kids at bedtime and tell them to go brush their teeth. The kids’ stall tactics, bellyaching and general disobedience could break the most hardened person. Is it the time of day, the actual act of brushing teeth, or just a rebellious streak that strikes the elementary subset that causes this routine activity to become akin to negotiating peace in the Marvel universe? So, parents, we are here to help you overcome the bedtime slump. We want to help you not only make brushing your kids’ teeth bearable—we want to make it fun!

Spice it up

Sure, we get it…brushing your teeth isn’t as exciting as going to Six Flags. But most things that are important to your health aren’t that fun, really.

To increase the excitement for your kids’ teeth brushing, consider streaming music and dancing while you brush. The music serves as a great distraction and a good guide to how long you have been brushing. It is important to not let the dancing be too much of a distraction or deterrent to good oral hygiene, so make sure a parent is monitoring and that vigorous brushing occurs.

Pick songs that are around two minutes each so your child knows to brush the entire length of the song. Our hope is this will lead to a solid brushing routine and a tired kid after getting all their wiggles out before bedtime!

Switch roles

Switching roles with your kid can sound scary. However, letting them brush your teeth will set the stage for them allowing you to brush theirs. If you’re really concerned about toothpaste going everywhere then just use a wet brush (believe it or not, this works just as well). You can practice counting skills, too by having them count your teeth—or you can turn it into an anatomy lesson by discussing the makeup of the mouth. This is great for the toddler age since sometimes they are simply afraid of the toothbrush and act out since they have no other way to express themselves.

Retail therapy

For just a little money, you can take your kid to the drug store and pick out a toothbrush that they love. Whether it has Disney characters or Transformers, having something that is theirs and that they picked out could encourage a kid’s tooth brushing habit.

Also, check out the different flavors of toothpaste while you’re there. While adults associate minty freshness with toothpaste, many kids don’t like that taste. Thankfully, toothpaste companies have created flavors like strawberry or bubble gum just for little ones.

Bribery

No parent likes to resort to bribery, but sometimes that is the last thing left at your disposal. Instead of bribing with sugary treats (that defeat the purpose of encouraging good oral health) choose other fun actives that your children like to participate in. Do they like going to the park? Maybe give them an extra 20 minutes there. Or let them choose the next restaurant you eat at. These don’t have to be huge things, just small rewards that keep them motivated.

Promoting good oral health starts with tooth brushing, and it begins in childhood. Keeping your child’s teeth healthy is important not only for the health of his or her mouth, but for the health of the whole body as well. Start early by implementing good habits and your children will reap the rewards in the future!

Madhuri Dixit to make her international music debut with – The Film Star

Bollywood’s ‘Dhak Dhak Girl’, the most loved superstar and actor Madhuri Dixit, is poised to release her first-ever English language EP (Extended Play), The Film Star. The EP will be launched with the debut single, ‘Tu Hai Mera’.

‘Tu Hai Mera’ is a special ode from Madhuri to her fans for all the love and support she’s received from them and continues to. It is a fusion of classical Indian folk music with western pop lyrics and beats, bringing together the East and the West, and creating an iconic global sound and vibe.

The idea to create a multilingual soundtrack from one of India’s most iconic performers and entertainers was conceived early last year at a meeting in Beverly Hills, CA between Madhuri Dixit, her husband Shriram Nene and Sat Bisla, President and Founder of A&R Worldwide. Bisla has been an early supporter for acts such as Sheppard, Coldplay, Muse, Keane, Dido, Adele, The Temper Trap, LMFAO, Jessie J, Katy Perry, Sia, Gavin James and hundreds of others prior to their global successes.

Talking about ‘Tu Hai Mera’ and embarking on this musical journey Madhuri Dixit stated, “Music has been a part of my life from the very beginning. I was pretty clear that I wanted to kickstart this new chapter with a sense of celebration and gratitude for my fans who have offered their unrelenting support and all their love no matter what. So what better way to embark on this journey than by celebrating their appreciation?”

Talking further about her debut single ‘Tu Hai Mera’, Dixit says, “It was a pleasure to work with a team of talented individuals who understood and appreciated the beauty of the East and West. We were able to create something that really speaks to your soul. Our hope is that the audience will appreciate all the hard work our team has put into the project and that it moves them as much as it has affected us.”

A&R Worldwide helped oversee the A&R’ing of the project and worked closely with Madhuri Dixit and Ram Nene in creating teams of creative songwriters/producers of East Indian descent including Raja Kumari (who has collaborated with Gwen Stefani, Fall Out Boy, Iggy Azalea, Fifth Harmony) and Narinder Singh (Paleface, Pitbull, Dario G., Conscious Youths, David Pfeffer, Tata Young).

Talking about working with Madhuri, Bisla stated, “It’s an honor and privilege to A&R this amazing project with Madhuri Dixit and Ram Nene to build a bridge between East and West in the most authentic musical way possible with one of Bollywood’s most iconic entertainers. ‘Tu Hai Mera’ is the icing on the cake of what is sure to be an inspiring and captivating musical release to tens of millions of Madhuri fans worldwide, as well as helping introduce her debut to millions of new listeners around the world.”

More recently, it was confirmed that ABC Television is developing an American comedy series based on the life of Madhuri Dixit in the US which is executive produced by Madhuri Dixit and Priyanka Chopra and written by Sri Rao. Mark Gordon Productions, famous for CSI, Grey’s Anatomy and Quantico, is co-producing the show along with ABC. In addition, it was recently announced that Madhuri has donned the producer’s hat, embarking on her maiden film shot in Marathi from her film house, RnM Moving Pictures, Pvt. Ltd.

By Mark Nelson President Nelson Water:

With more than 30 years’ experience in the residential and commercial water treatment space, Mark Nelson is a Class 1 Drinking-Water Operator and a CBWA (Canadian Bottled Water Association) Certified Plant Operator. As founder and president of Nelson Water in Ottawa, Mark focuses on dealing with challenging water treatment system designs for problem water. He also heads the largest water bottling plant in the city of Ottawa with a delivery network throughout the Valley.

Canada has an abundance of rivers, streams, and lakes that make up a significant 7 percent of the renewable freshwater for the whole world. Unfortunately, there are some severe pollutant threats that are putting these vital water sources at risk. Lachine Canal, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario have all developed a reputation for being polluted, but even Lake Winnipeg has been added to the list of being the most threatened lakes in the world. So, here we’ll explore the biggest pollutant threats for Canadian lakes and what you can do to help the situation.

Plastic

Most of us are aware that plastic pollution has become a massive problem in recent years. Plastic is thought to be responsible for up to 90 percent of the pollution in the world’s oceans, and studies have suggested that the Great Lakes could be even worse. Samples taken from Lake Erie suggest between 1,500 and 1.7 million tiny particles of plastic per square mile. This is 24 percent higher in concentration compared to the samples taken from the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the pieces are microscopically small that measure less than two-tenths of an inch. This can have a massive impact on the food chain, as fish mistake these particles for food and chemicals from the plastic are transferred to the fish, and whatever eat those fish.

While this is a widespread problem, we can all play our part to reduce plastic pollution. You can reduce the plastic footprint of your home and family by swapping disposable plastics for reusable items, such as food containers, plastic bags, and water bottles.

Pharmaceuticals

One of the most significant water pollution risks to the Great Lakes is pharmaceutical chemicals and compounds. Most sewage treatment plants lack the ability to treat or filter any pharmaceutical traces. Recent research has highlighted that this type of pollution is affecting amphibian reproductive cycles and lifestyles.

Studies conducted at the Canadian Lakes have shown that even small levels of estrogen, a hormone in birth control pills, can significantly decrease fish populations. Male fish have even been shown to grow female reproductive characteristics such as eggs.

There is also a concern that common medications including antibacterials and antibiotics could create resistant bacteria strains that could be passed on through the consumption of fish or other wildlife. While most of the samples taken from Canadian lakes have shown low levels of pharmaceuticals, there is evidence of the impact on fish and wildlife.

The problem has become such a concern the Government of Canada has produced an information guide to detail the safe disposal of pills and medications. The number one rule is not flushing any drugs down the sink or toilet.

Agricultural Runoff

Runoff from agricultural activities has become a big problem our lakes, primarily because of the nitrates used in pesticide and fertilizer products, particularly phosphorus. Phosphorus has been recognised as a problem for many years since high levels were determined to be the cause of turning lake water green in the 1960s. The reduction of chemical detergents was thought to cause a pollution turnaround, but in recent years, there has been a return in the visible damage. Blooms of toxic, invasive algae have appeared, which feeds on the nitrates and occupies thousands of kilometres of space in Lake Winnipeg, Lake Erie and other North American lakes. These swaths of algae compromise oxygen levels to force fish and other aquatic life to migrate in search of oxygen and food.

Today, the majority of the phosphorus feeding this algae can be attributed to farmland runoff. Many experts suggest that only an overall of modern farming practices will provide a solution to this problem. There is new technology and equipment that allows fertilizer to be put in the ground earlier rather than sprinkling during the winter months, while GPS guided machinery can highlight where fertilizer has been distributed.

Synthetic Fragrances

Today, almost every single product seems to have a synthetic fragrance. Multiple everyday items such as detergents, perfumes, cleaning products, and makeup contribute to this type of pollution. Traces of these chemical compounds have been detected in milk and fatty tissues or humans and animals. There are currently over 300 chemicals contained in fragranced products, but “musks” are considered the most hazardous. These contain lipophilic chemical compounds that combine and dissolve in oily liquids. This means that the fragrance remnants are more likely to contribute to sewage sludge buildup.

Switching to naturally scented products and environmentally friendly cleaners can reduce your contribution to this form of pollution. Ask yourself whether you really need that bold smelling product or have to wear cologne every day.

Oil Sands Operations

In recent years, the health and environmental risks of Alberta’s oil sands have been shown to be underestimated. Mining, processing and the massive mechanical vehicle traffic are just some of the most apparent detrimental effects of this industrial project. There are also problems resulting from the levels of evaporation and dust that end up in the lakes. One disturbing study showed that the toxic hydrocarbon levels were already reaching warning levels in six area lakes. This is 20 times more damage than when the mines were first established.

More damage can be prevented by decreasing the dependence on nonrenewable resources including oil. This means reducing reliance on cars and opt for walking, biking or using public transport. The rest of the issues will need to be left in the hands of higher levels of government.

Human Waste

In 2012, Environment Canada disclosed that over 150 billion litres of under treated or untreated wastewater is dumped into Canadian waterways each year. Old infrastructure or communities lacking facilities have allowed raw spills into our lakes. In 2013, Lake Winnipeg was named the most threatened lake as a result of sewage discharge and agricultural runoff. Even where there is an adequate form of water treatment, storm waters can cause overflows to allow raw sewage to spill into lakes, rivers, and oceans directly.

The Government of Canada has stated that 850 facilities throughout Canada require an upgrade, and a plan for repair and replacement of the most high risk facilities has been released. This will begin in 2020 and is expected to reach the low risk facilities by 2040. Unfortunately, these upgrades will not apply to any facilities in the far north.

7.ĐỒNG HỒ ĐO ÁP YTZ-150 SERIES (RESISTIVE REMOTE TRANSMITTING PRESSURE GAUGE)

Đồng hồ đo áp suất YTZ-150

Resistive remote transmitting pressure gauge is suitable for measuring the pressure of liquid, steam and gas medium which donot have corrosive impact on copper or copper alloy. Meanwhile, it can transmit the electric quantity data to the secondary meter over long distance for achieving the result of centralized test and control over long distance. It can also indicate on the spot which will facilitate technical check.

Structure Principle

The gauge is made of a common bourdon spring pressure gauge and a set of sliding resistance-type transmitter. When the pressure of the medium changes, the end of bourdon spring will be in displacement. Such displacement will push the indicator to indicate the relative pressure date on the plate through the transmission gear. As the sliding resistance-type transmitter is setted on the fan-shaped gear of the transmission gear, it will bring slide arm brush to slide when the transmission gear deviates. The changes of pressure data will be transformed to resistance changes and transmit to the secondary meter to display.

Using Condition:-40~70℃, relative humidity less than 85% and the shock and strong pulse vibration have no obvious impact on the normal work of the meter.

Temperature Impact: When using temperature deviates 20±5℃, the additional temperature error is less than 0.4%/10℃。

8.ĐỒNG HỒ ĐO ÁP YN/YN-B SERIES (SHOCK-PROOF PRESSURE GAUGE)

Đồng hồ đo áp suất YN series

The shock-proof gauge is mainly used in the pressure measuring in the industrial sector of metallurgy, electricity, chemical industry, light industry, machinery etc. The pressure gauge has excellent shock-proof function by the measures of interior filling of damping oil and assorted shock mitigation device. It is suitable for the occasions where the pressure of medium has strong pulse changes or pressure shock or pressure unload suddenly in the production process and environment shock is strongly. The gauge can measure the average data of the fluctuating pressure of gas and liquid for overcoming the damage to the gauge by the strong medium pulse and environment shock and ensuring the accuracy of the indication.

The case of shock-proof pressure gauge is made of stainless material (semisteel) which can be worked in bad circumstances such as corrosion or strong vibration. The observation window is made of high intensity engineer plastics. The gauge indicates clearly and works safely and reliably.

Editor’s Note: Below is the Geek Estate Mastermind newsletter #18 from February (this week’s edition was #24). Prospective members often ask for a sample newsletter, so thought I’d post a past edition publicly as an example — particularly given the relevance of Knock’s model to yesterday’s Zillow announcement that they will begin purchasing homes directly.

Those of you who know me, know I’ve been advocating for the consumer since I entered this industry as a 23 year old graduate from the University of Washington. “Win the consumer” is what I’ve been harping on since Geek Estate Blog’s earliest years, which came from my role as the “voice of the consumer” at Zillow. The topic of this week’s newsletter is a company I have been intrigued with for awhile.

Knock.

What’s driving my interest? First and foremost, buyers/sellers are delivered an extremely clear win; certainty, convenience, and decreased risk. Knock’s primary value proposition: Trade-In Your House Today. Knock will buy your new house and move you in before listing your old house.

Second, my girlfriend and I recently started watching HGTV’s Fixer Upper (with Chip and Joanna). I know we’re late to the party, but we love the show. Third, I grew up fixing and remodeling homes. My dad is a self professed do-it-yourselfer, as were both grandfathers. All enjoyed teaching me (and I enjoyed learning); I’ve stripped homes down to the studs, and pieced them back together. Fourth, I’ve recently started consulting on a new offering that shares a few characteristics.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Knock’s CEO Sean Black for 30 minutes a couple weeks ago to learn more about what they’re working on, and the business model behind it. Let’s get to it.

Knock, which started operations in Atlanta and recently launched in Charlotte, is a home trade-in platform offering the ability to sell a home with more certainly and less stress/risk. They help homeowners buy a new home, move them in, and then sell their old home for them. The team was founded by Sean Black (early Trulia), Jamie Glenn (Yahoo! RE & Trulia), and Karun Sakhuja (homeASAP). Point being, they have a wealth of industry experience, as well as sizable funding.

Consumer Win: I showed Knock to my mom after a discussion about real estate over dinner a couple months ago. After reviewing the website and watching the video, she emailed me back and said Knock is exactly what my sister and broker-in-law need to upgrade. They have equity in their home (Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle), but the prospect of buying and selling at the same time is beyond daunting (especially with two children). They can’t purchase without selling first to capture and liquidate their equity. Thus, the pickle. Knock solves this barrier by purchasing a new home for the buyers, and settling after their old home is sold. If Knock operated in the Seattle market, my sister and her husband would be clients tomorrow. Another friend of mine and his wife are in a very similar “wanting to upgrade but don’t have the down payment” situation.

Operational Complexity: Their concept is complex and impressive (I’d encourage you to watch the video on that page). Here’s all the steps Knock coordinates for the buyer (who also ends up a seller):

Submit home for a free market price estimate.

Phone consultation.

Licensed Local Expert (Knock) will help find a new home. They get the buyer fully underwritten for a new mortgage.

Buy new house with KNOCK’S CASH.

Manage and pay for improvements on new home. Up to $10,000, which can be rolled into the mortgage.

Move into the new house.

Only pay one set of bills.

Manage and PAY FOR repairs on old house to maximize offers. Up to $10,000, and settle at closing.

Transfer new house into buyer’s name as soon as the old house sells. They guarantee a sale within 6 weeks, or they’ll buy the home themselves.

That’s a lot of moving pieces, but handling all of them adds considerable value to a buyer/seller combination.

Business model: Knock earns their commission by being the buying agent on the new home, and the selling agent on the old home. They aren’t making money on the construction/renovation costs. That said, their volume is significant and as a result are able to execute construction projects at a sizable discount compared to the market.

Differentiation: First, Knock agents are on salary (W2s), not independent contractors (1099s). That means they won’t have the “agent adoption problem” most of the industry has. If an agent doesn’t do things the “Knock way”, they will cease to receive a paycheck. Not unlike Redfin, this gives them a strategic advantage delivering consumer wins not necessarily in a commissioned agent’s best interest.

Second, they are fronting the cash (up to $10,000) for improvements. They are taking the burden off the buyer. It’s worth noting that $10,000 is enough to do cosmetics and repairs, but generally not a structural renovation. I understand the need for a cap since they are financing everything. That said, when thinking about adding significant equity to a seller’s home, what’s truly needed are often fairly major renovations costing well in excess of $10,000.

Third, and this is important, Knock has plans to let anyone use their platform to buy and sell directly, without an agent, in the future. They are building a platform for the whole transaction, for anyone to use, for free. And if, as a buyer or seller, you can’t find homeowners to do a deal with, you’ll be on Knock’s platform. More likely than not, you’ll end up using Knock as an agent. That’s the thinking anyway.

Knock & the Broader iBuyer/iSeller Landscape: It’s no secret the most well funded iBuyer/iSeller players are Opendoor, Offerpad, and Knock. Of course you can’t ignore Redfin and Zillow in that race, either. I agree with Sean that, at some point, the leaders will be so far ahead in technology, funding, and brand that it’ll be a losing proposition for new entrants to compete.

To me, it’s blatantly clear Knock delivers a far superior experience than a traditional agent/boker is able to offer their clients. The ability to actually move into a house prior to selling your old one is a game changer in terms of convenience.

If you boil down Knock’s business model, everything serves as lead generation into the commission for two transactions. 6% total. Think about all the aspects of the deal Knock is handling, to get 2 sides. They are financing the new home, guaranteeing the sale of the old home, and fronting the costs of renovations on two homes (as well as handling project management). That’s way beyond what a traditional agent can deliver to their clients. Heck, it’s way beyond what most brokerages can reasonably deliver (I’ve heard rumors Windermere is doing some of this here in Seattle, but haven’t confirmed).

Complexity. That’s my real takeaway. As an agent or broker, the required service level complexity to attract leads & satisfy buyers and sellers is increasing at a rapid pace. Sure, the rise is funded by VC dollars, may not be profitable, and you don’t have a business model that warrants funding to compete. Unfortunately, none of that matters. Agents/brokers either need to figure out a strategy to compete or die trying. You can no longer expect to simply handle negotiation and close the deal and take your 3%. A comprehensive approach to winning your clients over is the best way to compete against the iBuyer/iSeller tech titans. You have to bring something unique to the table. Offering sellers guaranteed offers like FlyHomes (their co-founder Steve is a Geek Estate member) will rapidly become table stakes to winning deals. Beyond that, I predict a rise in teams and brokerages helping with rentals, property management, renovations, home security, interior design, real estate investments, travel planning (see here), and even personal finance.

How are you going to compete? How are you going to deliver “better” to your clients?

Editor’s Note: That marks the end of Geek Estate mastermind newsletter #18 from February. Below are a few fresh thoughts related to Zillow’s Instant Offers announcement and how it changes the iBuyer landscape.

First, watch this video to understand the way Zillow is thinking about Instant Offers:

From Zillow’s perspective, they are able to offer partner agents/brokers more value in terms of leads/clients. By acting as a friendly financing partner, agents can utilize them to help win listing presentations. That makes those partner agents more likely to continue their relationship with Zillow as Premiere Agents (which means revenue for Zillow). Buying homes directly also gets Zillow closer to the traction, which increases their ability to monetize by moving buyers farther down the decision making process on their platform.

Like Knock, Zillow has upped the complexity level by agreeing to actually buy homes with their cash. If you’re buying homes as an investor, you’re going to need to renovate and sell them quickly if you are to make a profit (or you can hold for the long term — though I’m certain that’s not the path Zillow will take). Renovating homes, even if it’s just cosmetics, is a “messy” business required operations/logistics (to be good at it). Flipping homes is a completely different business to be in than the media business that Zillow claims to be, and my main question is how much of that operations/project management/logistics work Zillow is offloading to partner agents.

The weakness I see in the video is they are seemingly deviating from their fanatical consumer focus that has gotten the company to where it is. For instance, a “problem” mentioned is agents aren’t able to participate in the seller process enabled by iBuyer startups (Opendoor, Knock, Offerpad, etc.). Granted, this is an industry facing video and certainly not the message put out to consumers (nor should it be) – but an agent not participating in the selling process is not a problem consumers care about. They care about selling their house. If there is a better way that doesn’t involve an agent (and saves them money), so be it. Zillow said it themselves, “The approach we’re taking is agent first and broker first.” I 100% understand why they’re taking this approach, and working WITH the industry rather than against it is a strategic choice that will benefit them in many ways. That said, an “industry first, consumer second” mindset is what got Realtor.com to where they are (no longer the category king). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not by any stretch of the imagination saying another company is close to disrupting Zillow. Their lead in brand, distribution, scale, and tech is mind-blowing, and is going to take years for anyone to surmount a major challenge.

From the partner agent/broker perspective, this is a major win. They are now able to go into a listing presentation WITH an instant offer in hand rather than having to compete against those offers. Whether the seller decides to list the house traditionally or take the instant offer, the agent still participates in that transaction. Beyond that, more leads is a good thing (if you have the capacity to serve them of course). Zillow being an investor in their Instant Offers marketplace should drive lead volume up.

What does this mean for the iBuyer landscape from the consumer side? Well, this is an obvious win over the current Zillow seller experience in terms of certainty. That said, Knock’s value proposition of actually closing on and moving you into a new house prior to putting your old house on the market is still a clear, clear win compared to what Zillow’s partner agents/brokers are able to offer their clients.

Net-net, this is a huge ballsy move by Zillow Group that extends their strategic moat, making them extremely, extremely hard to compete with. I like it.

That’s a wrap…until the next member newsletter.

Terror: That was the only emotion Jo Baxter remembers feeling as she drove from Nebraska to Kansas. It was a Saturday morning in 1965—eight years before abortion was legalized in the United States—when the college junior got into a car with her boyfriend and another friend who agreed to drive the six hours so Baxter could get an illegal abortion from a man she’d never met.

“I had no idea what would happen. I didn’t know what an abortion was [or] how it was performed,” Baxter said. “I didn’t know anything about it, but I just was really determined to do it.”

As soon as Baxter realized she was pregnant, she knew she wasn’t ready to be a mom. She wanted to finish college; she wanted to have a career. But this was before Roe v. Wade made abortion legal nationwide, and she had no clue how to get an illegal abortion.

A co-worker in whom her boyfriend confided happened to remember a stranger he had once helped change a tire on the side of the road. That man was a chiropractor from Kansas who performed illegal abortions on the side. He handed the co-worker his card in case he ever got a girl “in trouble,” which he later passed on to Baxter’s boyfriend, who’s now her husband.

So Baxter headed to the chiropractor’s office in the next state over, where she had a D and C (dilation and curettage) abortion without any anesthesia. Immediately after the procedure, she climbed back into the car, where she laid in the back seat the whole ride home writhing in pain from cramps. She secretly passed the fetus the next day in her sorority house.

“I didn’t tell a soul,” Baxter said. “I just was afraid because of the fact that it was illegal that someone would report me, and that I’d get in trouble with the law.”

Baxter was far from alone in seeking an illegal abortion. Experts estimated that annually as many as 1.2 million women had abortions throughout the 1950s and 1960s. In Vox, historian Rickie Solinger noted that some of these abortions were performed by doctors, midwives, and chiropractors, though many women attempted self-managed abortions.

Decades later, Baxter has told family and friends about the illegal abortion she had in college. But she now fears that the country is reverting back to a time when women couldn’t legally end a pregnancy. President Trump’s latest Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, would push the bench further to the right if confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and pro-choice advocates believe he would help dismantle Roe.

If the Court overturns its landmark abortion rights decisions, people in at least 22 states would be at a high risk of losing access to abortion, according to the Center for Reproductive Rights. Of course, a lot has changed in the last 50 years—especially when it comes to access to medication abortion.

Commonly referred to as the abortion pill, medication abortions typically involve taking the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol. The two pills are more effective when used together, but because mifepristone is regulated more heavily, it’s common for people seeking to self-manage an abortion to use misoprostol alone. And misoprostol is much easier to obtain these days, thanks in large part to the internet, explained Carole Joffe, a sociologist and professor at the University of California, San Francisco’s Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH).

The good news is that greater access to misoprostol means self-managed abortions are much safer than they were before Roe. In fact, people in states with numerous abortion restrictions already seek abortion pills online and abortion funds are educating locals about how to safely use misoprostol.

However, that doesn’t mean everyone has access to the drugs nor that the risks involved with self-managed abortions have totally disappeared. Even with Roe intact, some women put their lives in danger to end a pregnancy. In 2009, a Utah teenager allegedly hired a man to beat her in order to induce a late-term miscarriage.

“A lot of people have been convinced that because we have medication abortion—problem solved. Women won’t die and they’ll be able to get an abortion even if there’s no clinic,” Joffe said. “Obviously that’s not true.”

But the biggest risk for those seeking an abortion if Roe is overturned would be the threat of prosecution, according to Joffe. “To me, there’s no question. We know women will be prosecuted because they already are,” Joffe said.

Take for instance, Purvi Patel, the Indiana woman who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for self-inducing an abortion. She was released from jail in 2016 after serving more than 18 months behind bars. Patel’s case isn’t an anomaly; more than 1,200 women have been arrested based on their pregnancy or pregnancy outcome since Roe was enacted, according to the National Advocates for Pregnant Women, with at least 800 of those arrests taking place from 2006 to 2018. Women of color have disproportionately faced harsh punishments, especially when it comes to cases involving illegal drugs.

President Trump has also explicitly said he would condone prosecuting people who have abortions, commenting back in 2016 that “there has to be some form of punishment” if abortion is outlawed. He later walked the comments back but has promised to appoint judges to the Court who will overturn Roe, and he chose a vice president who has promised to end legal abortion “in our time.”

Baxter is now 73 and lives in Florida near her four sons and nine grandkids. While she’s grateful she was able to have an abortion at a time when thousands of women were admitted to hospitals every year due to complications from illegal abortions, she also worries about what choices won’t be afforded to her grandkids if a more conservative Supreme Court dismantles Roe.

“I have four granddaughters,” she said, “and I just can’t imagine going back to the days where they would be in the same boat that I was 50-some years ago.”

Buy Now

It isn’t a secret that most of you want to have an affordable upright vacuum cleaner yet powerful and looks stylish at the same time. The Eureka AS3006A ticks all the right boxes and comes with more than what you expect. It has been one of more desirable vacuum cleaners that have owners raving about. If you are looking for an upright vacuum cleaner, this model is one you should not miss. We start off looking at what the Eureka AS3006A offers.

Airspeed technology

Probably the most important feature and the best one, at least for us, is the deep cleaning Airspeed technology. Here, it is paired with the airspeed system, which boosts the speed of the air. What it means is that this vacuum cleaner has a more powerful suction than similar models. Thanks to it, you can remove all the debris, dust and even bad odor from different surfaces. This isn’t a common feature among cheap vacuum cleaners, so we can say it is a a pleasant advantage over many other vacuum cleaners. For homeowners who have thick carpets in their homes, this is definitely the most important feature.

Allergen filter plus

Some vacuum cleaners, usually older models have superb suction, but they don’t have filters to trap the allergens. What this means is that while vacuuming, allergens are released from the surfaces and they are free in the air. Once you breathe in allergens in the long run, you will get into health issues. With children, elderly or persons with respiratory issues, a good vacuum cleaner investment is a must. Thankfully, the Eureka AS3006A is a new model and the company has it all thought out. Like its name says “Clean Xtreme”, it cleans deep and traps allergens. With this feature, you breath fresher air and improvements to your quality of life can be noticed after a couple of days.

Tip: Buy this vacuum cleaner if you are sensitive to allergies.

Simple height adjustment

The dimensions of the vacuum cleaner are 13.5 x 12.8 x 43.2 inches it weighs approximately 7.3 pounds. Such figures go in line with the average-sized upright vacuums which are suitable for most people. User reviews are generally good, applauding its ease of use, comparing to many other vacuum cleaners. We also liked the fact the vacuum head has a slim design, allowing you to reach hard-to-reach places. Nevertheless, the main point here is the height adjusting system. It offers 5 different settings and it is a masterpiece. Choosing the desirable height takes one second and it features a heavy-duty adjustment system. This means that you can use it as long as you want, as many times you need and it will still work perfectly, like a charm.

All attachments you are going to need

Just because it is affordable, it doesn’t mean that you buy a bare vacuum cleaner without any attachment. As a matter of fact, you get a lot of attachments that will make your cleaning much easier. First of all, you get brushes for upholstery and fabric. Then we have a dust brush which is one of the best in this class and we also have a turbo brush. All of this combined means that you can use this vacuum cleaner on any surface and you will be able to get the job done as soon as possible.

Increased practicality

Using the Eureka AS3006A is simpler than most of you believe. First and foremost, you get detailed instructions on how to assemble the unit. It takes about 4 minutes to complete it, even if you are a noob with technology stuff. The guide is pretty much simplified and not difficult to understand. Just follow the instructions! Then we have foot-controlled buttons which are located on the left side. They are suitable to use even in heavy-duty shoes (meaning that this vacuum cleaner can be used for commercial applications as well). Handle-release buttons are easy to use and we can add the fact they are big, so using them while wearing gloves won’t be an issue.

Long warranty (3 years)

Purchase this vacuum cleaner and you will get a 3 year warranty. The manufacturer claims that all units are tested and checked for defects, so each delivery guarantees perfection. In our vacuum cleaner reviews, having a good warranty cover for your vacuum cleaner is important. So confident of the product, Eureka sweetens the deal with a warranty of 3 years. We know how good the product will be if any manufacturer offers warranties of 2 years and above. A worth-mentioning point relates to its built quality. It is a difficult thing to do, to find a well-made and durable vacuum cleaner from this price range. It looks like this is the one that has what it takes and as such, it is no wonder that it comes with a long-lasting warranty.

Pros:

Lightweight in its class.

Easy to control and maneuver.

Airspeed technology.

Modern and new design.

5 height settings.

A filter that traps allergens.

3 year warranty

Great attachments are included in the package.

Controls and assembly process are simple.

Value for money.

Cons:

Power cord doesn’t come with an auto — rewind feature which means you will have to rewind it manually.

The canister is complicated to connect.

Non-swivel design may be an issue.

Where we are heading

The review says it all, we do not need to go any further to explain why the Eureka AS3006A is more than just an average vacuum cleaner. It is simply one of the best deals that is a hybrid between its features and price. Overall, it is powerful enough to meet expectations of most homeowners and it looks perfect for high-end homes. Buying this vacuum cleaner will not be a mistake. It offers a lot, but it doesn’t have major issues which may affect the durability nor quality of the vacuum cleaner.

En Rogue

Game: Rogue Trooper ReduxDeveloper: TickTock GamesPublisher: RebellionReviewed on: PlayStation 4 (Review code provided)

Borag Thungg, Earthlets! Right, now that I’ve alienated most of our younger audience let’s talk about Rogue Trooper.

Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s I was a keen reader of classic UK sci-fi comic, 2000AD. A bi-weekly magazine that presented a mixture of stories from such classic characters as Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, ABC Warriors, The Space Girls (okay, maybe not them, but 90’s 2000AD had some weird stuff) and Rogue Trooper. Rogue Trooper is a personal favourite of mine. Co-created by Dave Gibbons of Watchmen fame in 1981, the titular character is a blue skinned G.I; genetic infantry, cloned soldiers created by the “Southers” to fight in their never ending war against the villainous “Norts” (pretty much Nazi’s) on the planet of Nu Earth. Aiding Rogue in his quest to destroy the Traitor General, a Souther who betrayed the GI’s in the Quartz Zone Massacre, is the consciousness of his former brothers in arms – Gunnar, Bagman and Helm, installed into Rogue’s rifle, backpack and helmet respectively. It’s a strip that’s still going strong today and one highly revered by 2000AD fans. It’s odd, then, that there’s not been many attempts to adapt it into other media over the years. In 2006, however, Rebellion produced a well received videogame for XBox, Playstation 2 and Wii. It’s this that has now been given a fresh coat of paint and put out on current machines XBox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC. Is this retro classic a good fit for modern consoles? Well, the answer is a difficult “Yes and No”.

Rogue Trooper Redux takes its plot from the comics, starting off with the Quartz Zone Massacre and leading into Rogue’s pursuit of the Traitor General, taking the form of a third person cover shooter. As Rogue you’ll prowl the battlefields of Nu Earth, blasting Norts in linear missions. The controls will be familiar for anyone who’s touched a similar game; left stick for moving, right stick for aiming, right trigger for firing. Rogue’s assault rifle is his primary weapon, although you can fall back on a pistol should you run out of ammo (something you may find surprisingly easy to do), and it’s this that you’ll be outfitting with upgrades as the game progresses. As with any game of this ilk, these upgrades are generally useful for specific scenarios, but you’ll also find ones that you’ll favour for general encounters, be it the shotgun, laser or mortar – it’s fairly easy to find a specific groove that suits your play style.

The game has an interesting take on handling ammo and upgrades which now seems very much like a proto form of modern crafting mechanics. Dead Norts will offer up scrap (something you can also find in larger quantities in hidden stockpiles) which Bagman can use to build new types of ammunition and upgrade your weapons, health and other systems. It’s certainly a simpler system when put next to modern titles with their endless material types and crafting trees but it certainly suits the games more arcade action stylings.

Visually the game has been given a bit of a bump from its decade old former iteration, with more polygons on display in both the characters and scenery as well as some higher resolution textures. It’s certainly not current-gen standards, looking more like a mid-gen PS3/XBox 360 titles, but the 1080p and 60FPS visuals certainly help sell the experience, and it is remarkably accurate when put next to its comic book counterpart. The game is also fully voiced which lends it a decent cinematic feel. There is no escaping, though, that what once seemed like a big budget game pales in comparison to even modern AA titles like ReCore in its sense of scale. But looks aren’t everything, though, as the popularity of lo-fi indie games prove; it’s all about the gameplay.

The controls aren’t terrible but they certainly feel a lot stiffer than modern titles; where the game does show its pre-Gears of War age is in how it handles cover. Rogue will automatically snap against objects, however the level geometry often makes it difficult to tell what objects you can use for cover and which you can’t. It’s also easy to aim directly into the cover you’re behind, meaning you need to adjust your position and potentially take fire. It feels too hit or miss and is a mechanic that hasn’t really aged particularly well. The enemy AI could also do with a bit of a kick – both the Norts and AI controlled GI’s who join you on your journey come from the stormtrooper school of combat and, when shooting at each other, can’t hit a barn door from ten paces. The Norts are far more efficient when aiming for Rogue, however, often knowing exactly which piece of cover you’ve hidden behind, but they do still have a habit of wandering out into enemy fire and generally not being aware when their comrades are being gunned down fifty meters away from them.

The single player campaign, though, is bolstered by some fun objective based multiplayer. There’s a co-op mode, as well as PvAI modes Stronghold and Progression. Stronghold has you and up to four other players having to keep a position against waves of enemies for a set amount of time, very much a horde mode, while Progression tasks you with taking on a number of objectives with your team. It’s not massively fully featured, but there’s a lot of fun to be had. A big downside, however, came when I encountered a number of friendly fire incidents from team mates which killed the fun fairly quickly. For a co-op game it’s very easy for another player to go… ahem… rogue and start killing their own team.

VERDICT

The updated graphics don’t always work and the outdated controls pale in comparison to modern cover shooters, but there is an undeniable charm in Rogue Trooper Redux that brings the thrill power of a faithfully adapted 2000AD classic to a modern gaming audience. At a budget price, there’s plenty of content to experience and it’s well worth a purchase for fans of the original game and the comic strip alike.

The barriers between public and private space; the city is about points-of-view, about broken or enabled lines-of-sight, about privacy: the protection of territory (the surveillance camera), the invasion of territory; the opposition of private and public: It organizes Voyeurism. President Donald Trump signed an executive order last May aimed at expanding the meaning of and the regulatory power behind the term “religious liberty.” By October, Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ team at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) had come up with 20 guidelines for executive agencies on how to apply so-called religious liberty protections in federal law.

“Our team embraced that challenge,” Sessions said, in the most animated moment of his speech at the Religious Liberty Summit, hosted by the DOJ’s Office of Legal Policy and its Civil Rights Division on Monday. “I gotta say, our team was enthusiastic about that challenge.”

At the summit, DOJ attorneys assured attendees they are protecting the religious rights of everyone in the United States, all while conservative Christian politicians and advocates voiced a need for stepped-up federal protections beyond those they already enjoy.

It was also a forum for Sessions to announce the next phase of Trump’s May 2017 executive order: a task force that will likely implement those very protections and, in doing so, safeguard conservative Christians’ ability to discriminate against vulnerable groups.

Sessions released very few details about the task force at the summit other than to note that the DOJ would be holding listening sessions with religious groups across the United States in the coming weeks and that the agency would make sure “our employees know their duties to accommodate people of faith.”

But in an internal memo shared with Rewire.News by a press officer, the attorney general explains that in addition to continuing the DOJ’s ongoing work to implement the 20 guidelines, the task force “will also consider new initiatives that will further the Department’s work to protect and promote religious liberty.”

The memo outlines the task force’s work plan:

1) facilitate Department component compliance with the memoranda [referring to the October guidelines]; 2) address novel, recurring, or cross-cutting issues in the Department’s work implicating the memoranda; 3) facilitate interagency coordination regarding the Religious Liberty Memorandum; 4) engage in outreach to the public, religious communities, and religious liberty organizations to obtain feedback on compliance with the Religious Liberty Memorandum; and 5) develop new strategies, involving litigation, policy, and legislation, to protect and promote religious liberty.

As Sessions said in his speech, “We are going to keep going to court [to protect religious liberty] and I believe we are going to keep winning.”

Sessions will chair the task force. Acting Associate Attorney General Jesse Panuccio will serve as vice chair for litigation, while Beth Williams, assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Policy, will serve as vice chair for policy. In her address at Monday’s summit, Williams, whose office helped produce the 20 guidelines, called them one of the DOJ’s “signature achievements” so far during the Trump administration.

The memo notes that Sessions will hand-pick representatives from various DOJ offices to make up the rest of the task force.

Though the tenor of the Religious Liberty Summit was overwhelmingly jovial, with DOJ attorneys and guest speakers—the majority from conservative Christian nonprofits—insisting that these initiatives are meant to preserve the rights of people from all faith backgrounds, Sessions cast the darkest cloud over the event, mentioning a “dangerous” cultural movement currently taking place.

“A dangerous movement, undetected by many, but real, is now challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom,” the attorney general said. “There can be no doubt. It’s no little matter. It must be confronted, intellectually and politically, and defeated. This election, this past election, and much that has flowed from it, gives us a rare opportunity to arrest these trends and to confront them. Such a reversal will not just be done with electoral victories, however, but by intellectual victories.”

This invocation of a “cultural movement” belies the fact that in the past few years, the United States’ already powerful religious right movement has climbed to even more power precisely by using the term “religious liberty” as a weapon to discriminate against vulnerable groups while simultaneously depicting Christians in the United States as constantly under threat.

Indeed, there was an odd juxtaposition throughout the summit: While DOJ attorneys explained that the bulk of religion-based hate crimes they’re seeing are against Muslim and Jewish people and their houses of worship, panel speakers focused on the idea that Christian individuals and institutions in the United States are being unduly targeted because of their beliefs.

Prefacing her questions to the summit’s first panel, titled “Promise and Challenge of Religious Liberty,” moderator Kerri Kupec lamented that she often sees the term religious freedom “housed in scare quotes as if it’s not a real thing, or even worse, as if it’s a bad thing.”

Rewire.News typically uses the term “religious imposition” to more accurately describe a class of laws and regulations that seek to impose one’s religious views on someone else’s individual freedom—as in the case of a pharmacist refusing to sell emergency contraception to a customer, or a county clerk refusing to sign a same-sex couple’s marriage license.

Kupec herself is a testament to the religious right’s rise in U.S. policy making.

Until earlier this year, Kupec was the spokesperson for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a conservative Christian legal nonprofit that represented plaintiffs and defendants in legal cases that have ended in many of the landmark Supreme Court decisions defining today’s culture wars. ADF has recently seen victories in two of its high-profile cases: NIFLA v. Becerra, involving whether Christian “crisis pregnancy centers” in California must disclose the types of services they provide to pregnant women (the Supreme Court ruled that they don’t), and Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. The latter case involved cake-baker Jack Phillips, who was one of the speakers on Kupec’s panel; the Court recently ruled that Phillips had not violated his state’s anti-discrimination law in refusing to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple.

But ADF doesn’t simply help change policy via the courts; it helps create future lawmakers and government attorneys, in part through a legal fellowship program that teaches law students how to serve Jesus in their law practice. The program also connects law students with federal and state government internships.

Kupec is now the spokesperson for the DOJ’s Office of the Solicitor General and the Civil Rights Division. ADF and other Christian conservative law firms are continuing to challenge federal, state, and local policies intended or interpreted to protect all members of the LGBTQ community, particularly trans people.

Although some of the biggest cultural fights involve members of the LGBTQ community, they were hardly discussed at the Religious Liberty Summit, save for when panelist Emilie Kao, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society, claimed, “There is no lack of access problem that same-sex couples face.” Kao was referring to a same-sex couple in Michigan who sued a Catholic Charities affiliate that refused to adopt to them; Kao argued the couple was in proximity to multiple adoption agencies.

Perhaps the biggest elephant in the room at the Religious Liberty Summit was Islam, a religion that has been openly vilified by President Trump, whose recently upheld travel ban began as a call for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims.” No one from the administration discussed the ban.

While the DOJ invited multiple speakers to speak on behalf of Christianity and on the public services being provided with a specifically Christian outlook, the agency did invite three speakers to speak on behalf of Jewish, Muslim, and Sikh faiths, respectively.

Asma Uddin, a fellow with the Initiative on Security and Religious Freedom at the University of California, Los Angeles’ Burkle Center for International Relations, spoke on the summit’s panel of legal and policy experts. Uddin said that, in addition to Muslims in the United States being attacked for their faith, many members of the public and lawmakers do not view Islam as a religion. Rather, she said, they see it as a political ideology, and a dangerous one at that. As Uddin pointed out, in some cases, Muslim organizations in the United States have been prevented from building mosques in certain cities.

Ilhan Cagri, a policy fellow at the Muslim Public Affairs Council’s D.C. office, who attended the summit, told Rewire.News in an interview that she felt like the entire conference was “problematic,” in that it was “Christian-centered” and seemed to ignore the religions facing more persecution in this country, such as Judaism and Islam.

Cagri said she is also concerned by the DOJ’s religious liberty guidelines created last fall, because she thinks some of them create a “slippery slope.” What if Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop had not wanted to, say, bake a cake for an interfaith couple?

“Where does it stop?” Cagri asked.

Indeed, the “religious liberty” excuse for refusing access to people—LGBTQ and otherwise—in the name of conservative Christian values is ever-expanding. In the realm of health care, for example, one in six acute-care hospital beds are in Catholic institutions, which enforce vast restrictions for people who, for example, are miscarrying or want tubal ligations. Or consider the Trump administration’s relationship with Bethany Christian Services, which had a volunteer present at the summit. The adoption agency has a problematic history that includes denying children placement with same-sex couples, but the federal government has authorized it to foster migrant children forcibly separated from their parents.

And yet, the majority of speakers at the summit would have you believe that U.S. Christians as a group are in a vulnerable position. In his speech, Sessions chastised unnamed groups for using the term “hate group” to describe a religious organization, ostensibly—though not explicitly—referring to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s categorization of the Family Research Council (FRC) as a hate group for its demonization of gay people as, among other things, pedophiles.

Sessions gave his own tacit endorsement to the FRC later that day, when he appeared on its president’s radio show to discuss his new task force. During his interview with Tony Perkins, Sessions echoed a theme of the DOJ’s Religious Liberty Summit: that people of faith should be able to exercise their beliefs in all aspects of their lives, including their work and political lives.

“Our Constitution gives us the right to speak, but it also when it comes to religion, it says you can’t prohibit the free exercise of our religious beliefs,” Sessions told Tony Perkins. “That’s what I think has been lost. People have emphasized the prohibition of establishing a national church but they haven’t emphasized sufficiently and have forgotten the guarantee that you can freely exercise your religion .… We want every minister and every Christian and every person of any other faith to feel like that they can express themselves and within the constitutional provisions exercise their religion freely.”

Sessions’ conversation with FRC is likely the first of many with religious groups to help further their agendas in the name of “religious liberty.” Of course, it remains to be seen whether Sessions and his new task force will welcome every example of religious exercise. The question is: Which groups will the attorney general consult with, and at the cost of which other groups’ liberties?

Want to know the secret of how to meet your neighbors after you’ve moved into a new home? It’s this: Stop waiting for people to swing by with an apple pie. These days you have to be proactive and get out there yourself!

So how do you do that?

Granted, whether you’ve just moved in or lived someplace for eons, many find this simple act of reaching out amazingly hard. If that sounds like you, it’s OK: It’s all about knowing a few icebreakers. Here are a few that even the shyest of shy can try.

Hold a garage sale

This project doubles as decluttering—and works whether you’ve lived in a place for years or just moved in and didn’t get a chance to fully purge before you packed up for your new digs.

“Not only will a garage sale provide you with a clean slate, it’s also a low-key way to meet your neighbors,” says Ali Wenzke, author of “The Art of Happy Moving.” Her advice: Chat with anyone who stops by.

“Even if you don’t make a sale,” she explains, “you might be meeting your new best friend for the first time.”

Ask to borrow something

“We met our neighbors the day after we moved in,” says Julie Bane of Richfield, MN. So what’s her secret? Merely loaning out something a neighbor needed.

“They rang the doorbell and asked to borrow some tools,” Bane explains. “They figured since we just moved in, we’d have them readily available. And we did!”

And remember, this is an equal opportunity endeavor: Sooner or later you’re bound to need something a neighbor might have, from a hammer to cup of sugar. Go ahead and ask—it sure beats schlepping to the store.

Do a good deed

Sometimes the best way to break the ice is to look for a way to pull someone out of it.

Three years ago, during an East Coast polar vortex, Seth Lejeune was leaving his Malvern, PA, home at 4 a.m. to attempt to get to work when he happened to see water gushing out of his neighbor’s garage. No one was home, so Lejeune called the fire department.

“A sprinkler system had burst on the third floor and was destroying their home,” says Lejeune, who stuck around to help out and make sure everything was OK. “We broke into their home and got the water turned off.”

Once his neighbors returned from their vacation, “they were appreciative,” Lejeune says. “And we remain friends to this day.”

Not that you have to wait for disaster to strike, either—offer to shovel the snow out of someone’s driveway or clear the leaves from their gutters. Who could refuse? You’ve got a friend whom, odds are, you can depend on during a pinch, too.

Find a common cause

Last summer a feral cat had a litter of kittens in the yard of Heidi Bender’s Adrian, MI, home. Concerned about their welfare—not to mention the number of cats already roaming her neighborhood—Bender went door to door to bring the issue to her neighbors’ attention. Ten houses down, she found a neighbor eager to help the free-range cats. Today, cats in their community are well cared for—and these two neighbors are fast friends.

“When you work together toward something that matters to you, you can’t help but bond,” says Wenzke.

Don’t have a passionate cause of your own? Then get involved in an HOA or local community group.

“Volunteering is one of the best ways to get to know people because you move past the small talk,” says Wenzke.

Bond over fresh food

Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is sprouting up all over. Pay a flat fee, get a box of local produce every week or month through the farming season. Whether you’re required to pick it up yourself or at a farmers market, chances are good you’ll meet other neighbors doing the same.

“Social relationships and access to nature both boost our happiness,” Wenzke says. “If you can combine the two, you get double the benefits.”

If a CSA isn’t available in your area, maybe a food co-op is. These member-owned grocery stores let you (and other foodie-minded future friends) have a say in what items are sold on the shelves.

Get creative come Halloween

During the first Halloween in his Phoenix home, Dave Forman landed on a genius idea to connect with his neighbors.

“We put two frozen margarita machines on our driveway,” he says. “One was nonalcoholic for the kids, and the other was for adults.”

No surprise, adds Forman, “we met the entire neighborhood in one evening.” Margaritas do that.

Sometimes, going online is a good idea

So maybe you want to be part of your community but work crazy hours. Or you’re always shuttling your kids from Girl Scouts to lacrosse and your schedule looks like that of an air traffic controller. Maybe your nearest neighbor is a mile (or more) away. If meeting your neighbors IRL is a challenge, then maybe you do need to pick up that tablet or smartphone and join a local online network such as Nextdoor.

Think of it as Facebook for those who live nearby—where you can meet and greet newcomers, ask questions, and more.

Plus, adds Steve Wymer, vice president of policy and communications at Nextdoor, “we take great pride in hearing stories about how these friendly online collisions wind up leading to offline interactions.”

You hear that? Your iPhone addiction actually can lead to meaningful connections outside your front door.

Aloy-tering with intent…

Game: Horizon Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds DLCDeveloper: Guerrilla GamesPublisher: SIEEReviewed on: PS4 (Review code provided)

Horizon Zero Dawn is, without question, one of the best games of the year. Guerrilla Games leapt out of their comfort zone of being “The Killzone Guys” and produced something a little magical. The world-building and everything else on top of it was second to none, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting through the world. It was with excitement, then, that I took on the code for The Frozen Wilds, the first major piece of DLC for this epic tale. It absolutely does not disappoint.

First off, it’s clear that Guerrilla have supported the game to a fantastic degree since the game’s launch. Patches have been frequently pushed to my PS4, without any real inclination for me to jump back in, but the devs clearly have a lot of passion for their vision, and the groundwork put in before The Frozen Wilds has meant that the DLC has the perfect jumping off point.

Visually, The Frozen Wilds has a lot to live up to. Horizon is easily one of the most visually striking games that has ever been released, and its first expansion holds absolutely nothing back. With flurries of snow obscuring your vision from time to time, and a bunch of new graphical effects to accompany it, The Frozen Wilds looks nothing short of breathtaking in almost every scene. The attention to detail is fantastic as well, with even small details like Aloy’s animation when she runs through a deep snow drift. Sulphur pools and other ponds are dotted through the lands, and are a great injection of colour in the ice and snow covered areas that are on display here.

The story in TFW draws from one of my favourite threads in the main game. With the “ancient times” essentially being our vision of an elaborate future, the mysticism of the technology is somewhat spiritual to the tribes that inhabit the lands. This religious element is something that fascinated me during the main game, and it was somewhat easy to see how it could happen. Hyper-advanced AIs being seen as gods by those who don’t understand, it’s a really intriguing concept, and I’m glad The Frozen Wilds expands on it a little more in the ways it does.

Of course, Aloy doesn’t believe in the likes of the religious and mystical mumbo jumbo given everything she’s already seen, and instead just wants to rid the land of its corrupted machines, and bring harmony to the tribes. Standing in her way in the Frozen Wilds are a series of new mechanical enemies, including the devastating Scorcher, and the terrifying Frostclaw. I found myself using a lot more environmental attacks throughout my time with the DLC than I did in the main game, and tactical combat was definitely a requirement to get through some of the trickier areas. Of course, if you want an extra challenge, you’re more than welcome to throw the difficulty slider all the way up to the highest level, but that’s not a challenge I can see myself besting any time soon.

I’d thoroughly recommend checking out the rest of the side content in The Frozen Wilds as well, as it’s as varied and involving as the main game’s was. An array of new characters flesh out the sub-zero plains as you hunt down the cause of the latest corruption to hit the machines, and these range from the stoic to the outright funny. Burgrend, one of the merchants you meet in the early going, is a particular favourite of mine, with his dry wit and heart-warming soft spots for humanity proving to be a decent source of comic relief from the relentless threat of machine-fuelled destruction.

In addition to the new enemies and areas, there are also a couple of new weapons to try out. These are essentially spears that shoot out your chosen type of elemental attack, and can prove extremely handy when you encounter a machine with a particular elemental weakness that you want to exploit. There are also new skill tree options, including one that allows you to unleash a devastating melee attack immediately after dismounting your chosen steed. It’s a well thought out set of upgrades that Aloy genuinely benefits from.

VERDICT

The Frozen Wilds is a pitch-perfect example of what DLC can be when it’s done right. Building on an extremely solid foundation of possibly the most technically accomplished game I’ve ever seen, Guerrilla Games have introduced some fearsome new enemies, a few new weapons, plenty of collectibles, and a story that some full games would be envious of. Seamlessly integrated into the main world, The Frozen Wilds offers up an entirely new area to immerse yourself in for at least 10 hours, if not even more. For under £15 (if you’re on PS Plus), this is a no brainer. A wonderful add-on to one of the best games of the year.

9/10

By Mark Nelson President Nelson Water:

With more than 30 years’ experience in the residential and commercial water treatment space, Mark Nelson is a Class 1 Drinking-Water Operator and a CBWA (Canadian Bottled Water Association) Certified Plant Operator. As founder and president of Nelson Water in Ottawa, Mark focuses on dealing with challenging water treatment system designs for problem water. He also heads the largest water bottling plant in the city of Ottawa with a delivery network throughout the Valley.

Would you feel confident that your drinking water is safe during an emergency? While uncommon in Canada, it is possible for floods, hurricanes and even a broken water main to interrupt your regular water service. Generally, during an emergency, authorities recommend drinking sterilized or bottled water to avoid being harmed by disease causing microorganisms or pollutants that could be in the water. Since there may be a rush for bottled water at the store, it is crucial to know how to sterilise your water to ensure that you and your family are protected.

Don’t Rely on How Your Water Looks

Although cloudy water is an obvious sign that there is a water quality issue, you need to remember that not all contaminants will affect how your water looks. In an emergency, your water may still appear clear, but it could be harbouring potentially harmful contaminants. Some of the most dangerous water contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, and heavy metals are undetectable to the naked eye. So, if an emergency alert has been issued or your home has been affected by flooding, storms or a hurricane, you can’t assume that your water is safe and need to take action. Fortunately, there are some effective ways to ensure that your water is safe to drink and use around the home.

Sterilisation Methods

There are a number of ways to sterilise the water you have available to make it safe for drinking, cooking, preparing meals, brushing your teeth and cleaning. You only need a small amount of contaminated water to make you sick, so you need to ensure proper sterilisation methods. The most effective sterilisation methods are:

Boiling: Boiling is a highly effective way to sterilise water if you have power. You’ll need to allow cloudy water to settle and run it through a paper towel or coffee filter to remove any sediment. You can then bring your water to a rolling boil for approximately three minutes. While lower altitudes can have sterilised water by boiling for a minute or two, it is best to err on the side of caution. Boiling can leave water tasting a little flat, but this can be remedied by adding a pinch of salt, preferably mineral rich pink salt.

Household Bleach: If it is not possible to boil your water, you can still sterilise it using regular chlorine bleach. You should only use a food grade, unscented regular type of bleach to ensure safety. As with boiling, you can remove any sediment by allowing cloudy water to settle and filter using a paper towel or coffee filter. Next, use a clean medicine dropper to add six drops of your bleach for every gallon of water. If your water is very cold or cloudy, you should double the bleach. Stir your water and allow it to stand for at least thirty minutes. Your water will have a slight chlorine smell, and if this is not detectable, repeat this process and allow it to stand again. If your water has a strong or unpalatable chlorine smell or taste, pour it into a fresh container and let it stand for at least an hour.

There are also several types of water treatment system that can be beneficial during an emergency situation. UV water disinfection, RO systems, and gravity water filtration systems can ensure that your water is safe for consumption.

Be Wary of Other Contaminants

Unfortunately, disinfection and boiling may be sufficient for some contaminants, but it will not destroy some others. Salts, heavy metals and many chemicals will not be affected by these two methods, and in fact, concentrations may actually increase due to evaporation during boiling. Since you need to have properly cleaned water for cooking, preparing drinks, washing dishes, brushing teeth and in some cases of water contamination, bathing, you will need a more effective form of water treatment. Fortunately, as mentioned above, there are a number of domestic water treatment systems that can protect your water supply in the event of an emergency. This includes:

RO Systems: Reverse Osmosis uses a semi permeable membrane to trap contaminants and allow clean water to pass through. RO systems can remove 99.9 percent of water contaminants including heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, and common chemical contaminants.

Filtration: There are a number of filtration systems that can provide clean water in an emergency. Domestic systems can be created with a series of filters and pre-treatment stages to remove sediment, chemicals, and other harmful contaminants.

You also need to consider whether a point of use system or whole house system would provide the best option for your home. Point of use systems can be helpful in a kitchen where you prepare drinks and make meals. Unfortunately, some contaminants affecting water supplies in an emergency may not only be a problem for ingestion. Some contaminants can be hazardous due to skin exposure. This means that when you bathe or wash your clothing, you will come into contact with potentially hazardous chemicals or compounds. Since the skin is the largest organ of the body, exposure due to bathing in contaminated water could have serious health consequences. There are also health issues posed by chemical inhalation, so you will suffer exposure from the running water in your shower. In these types of scenario, a whole house system will offer complete protection. A whole house system treats water as it enters your home, so clean water is supplied to all of your taps and fixtures.

Preparing for an emergency water situation can provide reassurance that you and your family will be able to cope if adverse weather or even a broken water main effects your water supply. Water is vital for every aspect of life, and you need to know that you have a safe supply in an emergency situation. An experienced water treatment technician can not only assess your current water quality, but also guide you through the treatment options that will improve your water quality and provide protection in the event of an emergency.

So you have beautiful hardwood floors in your home. They are a really good investment as they are long lasting but they have to be looked after properly. Each plank of solid hardwood flooring is made from the best domestic and other exotic hardwoods. They come in different widths, and each plank is usually about ¾ inch thick. They need to be regularly protected and maintained so they look good for many years.

Beautiful hardwood flooring

The cost associated with installing hardwood floors is rather high. You know you have invested in beautiful flooring and it definitely makes sense to learn how to keep them clean, how to keep the colors bright and looking good.

How hardwood floors get dirty

Hardwood floors get dirty from everyday activity. You have adults, kids and animals walking to and from, you have animals lazing around on the floor and sometimes, you wheel bicycles over the hardwood flooring. If you have a baby, the pram, like bicycle will be wheeled in and out just about every day. All this traffic contributes to dirtying, scratching and covering the floor in dust and hair. With all activity in and about, it is no wonder that the life and color of your hardwood floors is slowly diminishing. Remember that the time you spend cleaning your floors is really nothing to moan about compared to the years of use and longevity you will get out of these enduring floors. Let’s look at some basic tips on what to remember when cleaning your hardwood floors:

Get it right from the beginning. These floors don’t just absorb dust and grime like carpets so you cannot see it. You will see every little spec of dirt. Learn the correct way to go about cleaning.

Always use the cleaning method and equipment your installer recommended. If you just mix water and vinegar and scrub down the floor you are going to strip the shine and the floor will look dull and as if it needs a refinish, and that will just cost money. Also do not use any soapy cleaning mixtures or any that contain wax. They tend to leave oily marks behind and can lead to long term damage.

Using a broom is not as effective as a microfiber mop or cloth. One of these should be used every day. The microfiber cleaning pad or mop is the best option as the dust cannot escape out from under it, whereas with brooms the dust tends to get pushed around so it spreads and you never really get rid of it.

A very good idea is to use felt pads under the feet of your furniture so that they do no indent or mark the floor.

In areas where you have a lot of traffic, buy hard-wearing rugs with waffle weave so that they can protect your floors. At doorways and stress areas, put down thick rugs and mats to eliminate extra damage being done to your floors.

Vacuum cleaners are ideal for getting dust and dirt out of those hard to get at corners and under furniture — all the places, a mop or dusting will not reach. Also in-between the planks of hardwood, dust can get trapped in there and with the vacuum you can suck it right out. Be careful if your vacuum has a beater bar, as you do not want to bash the floor and cause a dent or permanent mark you cannot get rid of. An upright vacuum will work very well, just watch out the wheels do not leave a mark.

Scheduling the cleaning

Besides vacuuming on a regular basis, it is good to schedule your cleaning. In general, most people clean their floors on an adhoc basis — whenever time permits or when the floor starts to look dull. With a schedule, you will know exactly what needs to be done. Because cleaning hardwoods is not just a matter of vacuum and moping. Let’s take a look.

Sweep daily

On a daily basis (if time permits) try sweeping and reaching all the hard to get to places with your broom — under the furniture, the corners and any tight crevices.

Vacuum and mop weekly

Do not use too much water, use a spray bottle to mist the floor slightly. Too much water, combined with regular cleaning can damage the flooring and cause it to lose color after a couple of years.

Polish quarterly

Every 4 months or so you can bring the floor polisher and give your floor a great all over polish and re-shine so that it looks as good as new. Floor polishers play a very important part in cleaning hardwood floors. They add beauty, shine and longevity to the life of the hardwood floor. Floor polish gives the floor back its original new looks and shines and protects it. It will also fill in the micro cracks or any little pock marks, and even out the floor so it looks as good as new again. Make sure you do not leave lines where to start to polish and then stop. Try and “feather” out the joins.

Polished hardwood floor

Every 3–5 years, you can give your floors a deep clean or a complete re-sanding. You will remove the protective finish and replace it, while at the same time filling in any grooves or marks so the floor has a an even and uniform look. Then you polish it. Now you know your floor looks beautiful.

What to avoid

Vinegar and ammonia

The acidity in both of these products will slowly destroy your hardwood floor. This shine will disappear and the rich color will fade and become stained;

Waxing

Since wax is oily and sticky, it will attract dirt and dust so that it will be so much more difficult to clean as all the grime will stick to it making it harder to dislodge;

Oil soap

Another no-no, is that if your floors are varnished, this wax will not penetrate into varnish and get rid of the dirt. It will only clean the surface to remove visible marks and stains. It will also make the floor very slippery upon application.

Conclusion

Here you have all the information and tips you need to keep your hardwood floor in tip top condition year in and year out. Try not to use any rubber mats on hardwood floors as they tend to trap dust and any moisture underneath them and you could end up with nasty stains that you will have the re-sand and re-polish to get them back to normal. Spend time on home improvement learning, on how to take care of your hardwood floors and invest in the correct equipment. They will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Shortly before Angelina (a pseudonym) and her 6-year-old son were detained for two months at a family detention camp in rural New Mexico, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary told a Senate committee that for adults who migrate alone from Central America, there would be no hearing before an immigration judge. Rather, their removal would be expedited. For Central American parents like Angelina who migrated to the United States with their children, the message was “simple,” the DHS secretary said. “We will send you back.”

Though this sounds like a scene out of the current administration, it was Obama-era DHS secretary Jeh Johnson who sought to flout due process. The Obama administration’s response to the influx of Central American migrants in 2014 was to send them back to their countries of origin as quickly as possible. In order to do so, it set up detention camps to process orders for deportation quickly, as the New York Times reported. These camps are not unlike the ones the administration is reportedly preparing to construct.

As the current administration moves to expand family detention in order to deal with a crisis of its own making, Rewire.News spoke with Angelina about her experience to shed light on what it can mean to hold parents and their children in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. Angelina told Rewire.News, through an interpreter, that she wants people to understand how desperate it feels to be detained without access to an attorney and with no knowledge or understanding of where your case stands or how long you will be detained. Indeed, many sign their own deportation orders because of the “crushing depression” of being detained for so long. She also wants people to expand the ways they talk about family detention and family separation, centering those most affected.

“[E]ven when one person, like my husband, is detained, it’s like the whole family is there. Our heart is there. We experience the stress and fear of not knowing,” Angelina said. “Being in detention doesn’t just affect the person in detention; it affects the whole family. And when one family member is detained, that too is family separation.”

Angelina’s Story

In the fall of 2014, Angelina and her young son spent two months at the Artesia “refugee camp” in New Mexico, where she says they experienced “inhumane conditions.” Angelina told Rewire.News that when she arrived at Artesia, the facility was holding “at least a thousand families” and “more were arriving every day.” Some had already been detained for as long as six months, she said.

The New York Times reported in 2015 that officials deported more than 200 refugees to Central America in the first five weeks that the Artesia facility was open. Advocates have anticipated Trump’s “tent cities” will largely function the same way: They are deportation processing centers.

“When we arrived, they put us in quarantine. They said we had lice or that we carried diseases with us. The workers there would use gloves and masks to come close to us or move us. We were kept in very cold rooms; we called them hieleras. I spent five days in the hielera and during those five days, I wasn’t allowed to shower or change my clothes. Psychologically speaking, it was very traumatizing,” Angelina said.

Once in general population, Angelina quickly learned that even basic necessities like food would not be met by the detention camp. Families looked forward to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday because these were essentially the only days when the facility provided food the detained children could actually eat: sandwiches, chips, and cookies. On the other days, the food was “raw” or “too spicy” for the children, meaning they barely ate four days out of the week.

There were also allegations of sexual abuse. Angelina said she did not personally witness or experience sexual abuse at Artesia, but she knew others had and they were afraid to speak out due to fear of retaliation from immigration officials.

For ten days Rewire.News attempted to confirm with ICE’s office of public affairs the specifics of Artesia’s quarantine process and food schedule but was told that, because “this was years ago” and “no one on the press team now covered this issue then,” that it would “take some time.” The agency has yet to respond.

Dr. Satsuki Ina, a psychotherapist for over 40 years with firsthand experience in family detention, told Rewire.News, “What is really at the core of the immigration system in the United States is this insipid, deeply entrenched level of racism that sees immigrants of color as a threat to white Anglo Saxon Protestant families, which then leads to direct attacks on immigrant families.”

For years now, there has been an uptick in the number of indigenous people migrating to the United States from Central America. When Angelina was detained at Artesia with her son, she witnessed an indigenous woman from Guatemala forced into a shower by guards at the facility.

“She had not showered for a few days because in her country, she was taught that when you menstruate, you don’t get wet, not even your hand, so you don’t shower and you should not be seen by men. It’s a cultural thing where she was from, but the guards didn’t care,” Angelina said.

The Guatemalan woman did not speak English or Spanish, and could not communicate with the guards to explain why she was choosing not to shower. When another woman at the facility explained to the guards for her, the guards laughed, Angelina said.

“Artesia was a military base, so all the showers were open and everyone could see each other. They put her in the shower, saying she was silly and unclean,” Angelina recalled. “They laughed at her; they laughed at her private parts. They did not respect women, and they did not respect different cultures. This was a human rights abuse.”

These violations are not only reserved for adults in family detention facilities. As other detained people have reported, when a person experiences an illness in detention, no matter how serious, they are often told by officials to simply drink water. Angelina told Rewire.News that when children at Artesia became ill, officials told their parents to just give them more water. One woman was so alarmed by the failure of the facility to provide care for her severely ill son that she chose to “self-deport” in order to get him care in El Salvador.

Angelina, who is no longer in detention, had used social media to stay in touch with more than 2,000 women who have been detained in the United States, before deleting her account for safety reasons. It was only after Angelina’s own release from detention that she reconnected with the woman who self-deported.

“I learned that when she went back to El Salvador, she took her son to the hospital and he died. In the autopsy, she learned that he didn’t receive adequate medical attention [in detention] and by the time he got to the hospital in El Salvador, he was in critical condition. He had asthma and pneumonia and by the time he was at the hospital, it was too late,” Angelina said. “All of the women I stay in touch with tell me heartbreaking stories. It is clear to me that their children are suffering the consequences of detention.”

This is also true of Angelina’s own son, who is now 10 years old. After their release from Artesia, the mother and son sought counseling together to “process what happened” to them in detention. Angelina said that in the years since, her son didn’t talk much about his experience in detention—until his father was recently detained under the Trump administration.

Angelina’s husband was detained while leaving work. He had no criminal record but was detained for two months, she said.

Angelina told Rewire.News that the county in Virginia where her husband was arrested participates in the 287(g) program, which is an agreement between a local law enforcement agency and ICE, effectively deputizing law enforcement officers to act as immigration agents. This means that any interaction an undocumented immigrant has with a police officer can lead to them being funneled into the detention system and possibly getting deported.

This process of othering, exploiting, criminalizing, and discarding immigrants does not happen overnight. Ina told Rewire.News that the groundwork for things like Japanese internment or the mass incarceration of Central American asylum-seeking families is laid well before the actual internment occurs, and it takes the form of rhetoric.

Ina, who was born in a Japanese American internment camp where she was detained with her parents, said she sees the practice of detaining undocumented immigrants in family detention as part of a larger American story, one that frames immigrants as “the other” or a threat. This approach, Ina said, is an attempt to justify the dehumanization and criminalization of immigrant communities.

“We [Japanese Americans] too were considered a public threat, an economic threat, just a threat, and to the American public, that justified our incarceration,” Ina said. “We must pay attention to the language being used to frame these narratives, how damaging it is, and how there is a historical framework for using this rhetoric to put people in prison camps. Today, there isn’t anyone who doesn’t see that what happened to Japanese Americans was wrong, it’s written about in school textbooks as wrong. The same people justifying Trump’s policies today will later find themselves on the wrong side of American history.”

Angelina’s husband has since been released, but at the time of our interview he was still detained and her primary concern was how these experiences were affecting her 10-year-old. “My son asks me, ‘Is papa being treated the way we were in detention?’ He’s very scared and worried about how his dad is being treated. He cries at night and asks me if his dad is going to be deported. He is very sensitive to this situation.”

“I think it’s bringing up a lot for him,” Angelina added. “He’s reliving his experience in detention through his dad.”

As Angelina noted, there are policies in place that keep families separated from their detained love ones: Detention centers generally require a government-issued ID to visit the facility. For undocumented family members who have loved ones in detention, this means there can be no visits.

“It’s cruel. It’s family separation. You don’t even have a chance to say goodbye if you know they will be deported,” she said. “More than anything, I want people to know how psychologically damaging this is to all of us, but especially to children. This whole system harms us. It causes us to suffer. Family detention centers should not exist.”

We all want to invest in our children and ensure they’re able to live up to their full potential. Whether by choosing the best schools or investing for college, as parents we are constantly evaluating our child’s needs.

With regards to their health, we also invest in their future by ensuring that they receive a healthy diet and get enough activity in their day. And while we first think about health as it relates to diet and nutrition, it’s important to not overlook your children’s dental health.

As we commonly remind our adult patient, your oral health can affect your total body health. This is true for our pediatric patient population as well. While bi-annual check-ups are an essential part of investing in your child’s oral health, that is only part of the picture. As with anything in parenting, it’s also important to guide your child to independence and the sustainability of good habits. Below we will outline other healthy oral habits that will benefit your child in the long run.

Build an oral health routine EARLY

The phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is closer to the truth than many people like to admit. It’s important to begin a comprehensive oral health regimen with your child early so the habit is engrained before they reach those defiant toddler years. This includes getting you infant used to something being in their mouth. Use a wet washcloth to gently wipe off the gums after a nighttime feeding. As they start to grow teeth, transition to a child-sized toothbrush with toothpaste and brush twice a day. Mouthwash isn’t encouraged until the elementary school years since it takes significant coordination to swish and not swallow, but when you think your child is mature enough to use it, incorporate that into their nightly routine. By the time your child is old enough to brush their teeth on their own, they should be in such a set routine that it would be weird to not brush their teeth at night.

Decrease the fear

While we love to see all our patients, we know everyone is not as excited to see us if it means going to a dental appointment—kids in particular. A recent poll indicated that one third of all adults admitted to not seeing the dentist in the past year. In addition, childhood cavities effect approximately 42% of children aged 2 to 11, and when left unfixed can result in damage to the gums and jaw that will follow them to adulthood. In order to combat these statistics, it’s on both the parents and on dental professionals to ensure your child is having a good experience and doesn’t suffer unwarranted anxiety about the visit. On our end, we make the visit as inviting as possible and interact with the child throughout the visit to reassure them of what we are doing. We ask parents to not project any anxiety on their children and possible offer an incentive for coming. Whether it’s a trip for ice cream (don’t forget to brush your teeth after!) or a small toy or gadget, having something to look forward to can make the whole process more enjoyable.

Make it fun

We previously discussed how important a tooth brushing routine is, but one component that can really make it stick is making the experience fun. Whether that’s a special trip to the store to pick out a new toothbrush with their favorite character on it, or toothpaste in bubblegum flavor, don’t let adult rigidity get in the way. The bedtime routine can also be a great opportunity to invest in time together and create memories. Try letting your child brush your teeth before you brush theirs, or make up silly songs together to pass the time. If you child looks forward to their oral health routine, it increases the likelihood it will stick.

Investing in your child’s oral health is an investment in a happy future. From brushing to braces and everything in between, your child’s smile is an import social aspect of their life. Keep it bright and white for life by implementing a solid plan early.

Today on 2nd April 2018, World Autism Day, I want to present the newest award I got for my blog. It’s another community award, the Sunshine Blogger Award. I received this award from Aivanther over at TheDialyRager. Thank you so much for this! I’m flattered by the fact that I got another community award on top of all the flattering words that are being said about me. Like in this article by Sheikah Plate about “To Thine Own Self Be True.” . In any case, I think we should focus on the award too. So, it’s answering and asking questions time.

The Rules of the award

Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog.

Answer the 10 questions the blogger asked you.

Nominate 10 new blogs to receive the award and write them 10 new questions.

List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Questions to answer

What is your name?

NekoJonez, that’s the easy answer. If you want my real name, it’s Pieterjan. But, if you can’t prounce it, I prefer that you say “Jonez” to me.

The “n” is said like the “n” in pencil. It isn’t said like the “m” in mother. That’s one of the biggest mistakes. Also, the “a” is long. The “a” is spoken like in Halo. Longer A.

What is your quest?

My personal quest is to enjoy life as much as I can. To be amazed and to experience everything I want to experience. But mostly it’s to entertain and support people I care about.

My quest on my blog is to educate and tell my story in the vast world of video games. A story about a casual retro game collector who enjoys playing casual games and games forgotten by the masses. Also, it’s to have fun with my blogging friends from over the world.

What is the air speed of an unladen swallow?

As fast as it’s body is allowing it to go!

Dysentery or Cholera?

For real? Talking about “pick your poison.” But, thanks to modern medicine, I don’t care that much since it can both be cured.

Why do you blog?

I don’t know where I told this story before, but let me start from the beginning. I’m part of a pretty small direct family. My parents, 2 uncles, 4 aunts, 2 cousins, my grandparents from my mother’s side and my sister. Oh, and my pet cat Sparta.

But since most of us work in education or in the social sector, our network of family friends is huge. Also, if you go look into my actual family, I have family living in the Netherlands.

So, at family parties I have to explain the same question all over again. What I was up to and things like that. I was so tired of that question 8 years ago, I started to blog about my life in Dutch and share it with friends and family. Here and there I wrote gaming articles and they actually took off.

Due to certain circumstances, I decided to delete my Dutch blog and take 6 months off blogging. This all happened in 2013. Yet, in May of 2013; I started to really miss being able to write about games. Since it’s my passion after all.

So, in may of 2013, I published my first English review of Tomb Raider. Now, I started my 5th year on this blog but in reality I have been writing blogs for 8 years. Now-a-days, I mostly write about video games because I know the most of that subject and I just enjoy writing about it.

It’s a great way to share experiences and stories. It’s an amazing way to talk about the games I played and to keep a sort of public diary about the games I have played and when.

What game made you wish you had brain bleach?

In terms of a good game, A Hat In Time. I wish I could experience that game all over again without any memories about it.

In terms of bad games, well, the games on this list say enough. In that article I talk about the 10 worst games I have played since then.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

That’s a trick question! In which game do you mean? I think you can find her in a bedroom with Waldo.

Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle?

Well, for some reason I nearly always go with the grass types in Pokémon starters. Sometimes with the fire one and very rarely with the water one. And one random NPC dialogue from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl keeps sticking in my head.

In there, they say the people who choose for grass Pokémon are calm and laid back people. I honestly think that I’m that kind of person.

Worst game you have actually completed?

I rarely complete games. I even have trouble beating games to be honest. My collection spans over 2,000 titles and I keep expanding it. Each free moment of my time, I try to get a game or two closer to the beaten or completion status.

So, if I have to talk about the worst game I have actually beaten; I think I have to refer to the brain bleach question. I have beaten on some of the games on that list…

What’s your guilty pleasure game?

I don’t feel guilty at all playing games. There are some games not meant for my demographic, sure. Okay, there are some games in my collection I got from my sister like some Barbie, Winx Club and other “girl” games.

But, I honestly enjoyed some of them. Heck, I have reviewed one of the games back in 2014; Barbie Secret Agent for the GBA. As long as a game is fun to play, why would it matter if I’m the target demographic or not?

Look, there isn’t a game I feel guilty playing. If a game interests me, I play it. If you limit yourself in “oh this game is about some girl/boy show and I’m of the opposite gender so it’s going to be boring…” – thoughts, you are missing out! As a boy, I have played games that I enjoyed quite a lot which are meant for girls. And I can say with 100% certainty, that my sister can say the same things about the games where the player base is more male. Like she enjoys playing Age of Empires.

I adore when I can play a game in a genre or style I haven’t experienced a lot since that way I get introduced to a new style of games and more types of games to look out for to add to my collection.

My ten winners

Sheikah Plate – I really need to try one of your recepies!

Triform Trinity – My dude, my man! You deserve this one.

Games With Coffee – I drink mine with milk and sometimes sugar!

Aluna – We should do another stream one day, brother!

Reaper Interactive – Love your stuff mate!

Power Bomb Attack – I want to be on the podcast as a guest one day? May I?

AdventureRules – When will be the 2018 Blogger Blitz event?

LightingEllen – Let’s snow punch those blogging thieves together!

Falcon Game Reviews – I wish I had more time to read your awesome stuff

Anjim Plays & KillerRobotics – For your continued support my man.

Okay, I kinda cheated and put 11 on my list. In addition to that, I took 10 other people I really enjoy that weren’t on the list from Aivanther. A few of good blogging friends are on there!

So, now you need my ten questions I guess. Here we go:

Explain as poorly as you can how either Minecraft or Pokémon works.

Explain a game cryptically and let your readers guess which game or game series it is.

Do you sell games you have completed/beaten or do you keep them in a collection?

Which game/genre does interest you quite a lot but you are unable to get into the actual game/genre?

Do you think it’s possible that there will be every an amazing video game movie?

Would you ever consider blogging full time as a job?

I haven’t gotten a Switch yet! Quickly, recommend me a game.

If you had to choose between Sony, PC or Nintendo platforms and emulation DIDN’T exist, which platform would you choose and why?

What is the platform you grew up on and tell us some fond memories.

Tell here a random story you want to share with your readers.

Anyways, that’s everything for today! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Thanks again to Aivanther to give me this award! It means a lot to me to get my work recognized. I hope that the upcoming articles are going to entertain everybody! I hope to be able to welcome you in another blog but until then, take care and have a great rest of your day!

RL Grime is back with new music for the first time since dropping his sophomore album NOVA last year. The new track with graves, “Arcus,” is also the first release out on RL’s fresh new imprint, Sable Valley Records.

“Arcus” isn’t a particularly complex track, but it’s wildly beautiful. Swelling melodies and harmonies characterize the track, which for the most part is pretty understated. The drop is a flurry of synths and sounds, with pounding drums and an addictive vocal sample, all of which only add to the inherent emotion found in the track.

Who would have thought that in 2019 some of the best future bass would be from the guy that made “Core”…

Check out “Arcus” from RL Grime and graves below, out now on Sable Valley.

On “Property Brothers” this week, Jonathan and Drew Scott take a couple back in time to their childhood home with a daring mission: Can they make an old house new again?

In the episode titled “Country Chic for a New Generation,” Caroline and Gerald are living in a farmhouse in Ontario, Canada, with two grown kids. But now as they look toward retirement, they want a place of their own that’s not so remote—one where they will have plenty of room for their many antiques, and to entertain friends and family. They have $925,000 to spend in total.

Inspiration strikes once Caroline mentions her mother had recently moved to a senior facility, leaving Caroline’s childhood home empty and up for grabs. They haven’t tried to sell the home yet, Caroline explains, because “it needs a lot of work.”

“A lot of work?” Jonathan asks, eyes lighting up. That’s his specialty! So the four of them go over to the family home to check out its potential.

Caroline is dubious—she knows it’s dated, and most of it, including the green shag carpeting and bucolic wall mural, look like they came straight out of the ’70s. Because they actually did! In fact, the kitchen cabinets, which she’s always hated, look more like they came out of the ’50s. But when Jonathan talks about how it could be updated and still keep some of its familiar charm, she’s intrigued.

She checks with her sisters to see if they would be on board with the project, and they’re all for it. The home, and the 3 acres it sits on, have a value of $800,000, and Jonathan says he can make it look like vintage new for $125,000. It’s a deal!

Here’s how the Scott brothers bring this old home into the present day, and the lessons we can all learn along the way.

Bigger tiles = less grout to clean

Bigger tiles means there’s less grout to clean.

HGTV

Caroline explains that one of her least favorite chores as a child was cleaning the bathroom walls and floors, because they had very small tiles, and it was nearly impossible to keep the grouting between them clean.

Jonathan explains that although small subway tile has come back into fashion for bathrooms, Caroline is absolutely correct about how difficult it is to keep the grouting clean. So he promises, and delivers, updated tiles with minimal seaming … and grout.

Repurpose antiques

Gerald turned an antique dresser into a charming bathroom vanity.

HGTV

Gerald and Caroline have a lot of antiques they’d like to keep and use in the new design. Only how?

Gerald, for one, comes up with a way to use an antique dresser that the Scotts, and everyone else, absolutely love. He turns it into a bathroom vanity, with a modern basin on top and a faucet that looks like an antique pump. Jonathan sees it as the perfect way to give the room a chic vintage feel, without sacrificing updated fixture quality.

Also, since the antiques have a lot of detail, Jonathan keeps any new pieces neutral and simple so as not to make the rooms feel cramped and fussy.

Put up shelves to hide flaws in the wall

Jonathan Scott updates the 1950s kitchen by about 65 years.

HGTV

There’s a vertical crack in one wall where a wood beam was removed. Jonathan tells Caroline that they can “mud” it up, but it will only crack again later, so he suggests building a floor-to-ceiling shelf of reclaimed wood to cover the crack.

That sounds just fine to Caroline, who is eager to have a place to display her collection of oil-burning lamps. “It was a $20 solution,” Jonathan brags.

Jonathan updates the 1950s kitchen by about 65 years.

Do the stars of ‘Property Brothers’ deliver?

Drew and Jonathan Scott jam with Gerald and Caroline in their new-old home. What a pair of cutups!

HGTV

Caroline’s emotions were on the surface as Jonathan demolished and then rebuilt her family home, room by room. She was under no illusion that the dated features should be preserved, but it was just hard for her to see them go. So everyone is quite tentative on the day of the reveal.

Yet when Caroline sees how her old homestead has been opened up and decorated with all the antiques they know and love, she dissolves in tears of joy.

“It feels right,” she declares softly.

“It’s a tremendous job,” Gerald gushes. “It’s more than anything we could have imagined!”

Most of the film events were cancelled, except for two – launch of the song ‘Tere Bina’ from Haseena Parkar by Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhanth Kapoor, Ankur Bhatia and Apoorva Lakhia, and the immersion of Vivek Oberoi’s Ganesh idol. The Kapoor siblings gave a lift to four mediapersons who were stuck after reaching the venue – Twitter’s Mumbai office in Santacruz. Shraddha and Siddhanth Kapoor gave them a lift till Juhu. Though it was barely a few kilometres, it took them an hour to reach.

Vivek Oberoi, on the other hand, opened his residence to around 18-20 photographers who were present at Juhu Beach to cover his visarjan and the other celebrations by the sea. The photographers were pleasantly surprised as Vivek and his father Suresh Oberoi served them piping hot food and also made other arrangements.

An article about open houses was recently published by the US blog reference Inman News. This practice is widely used in English-speaking countries where all potential customers visit at the same time a property to sell in order to shorten the time of sale, generating interest among buyers and give them the impression that they are not the only ones interested. This technique is almost non-existent in Europe, some agents have recourse because of the many ask visits but this is rare and only concerns the rental. Getting back to the article, it puts forward four expert advice to improve the quality of open house visits:

– Show your knowledge of the area

– Invite the neighbors

– Be prepared almost “too” prepared

– Complete the drinks fridge

These ideas are interesting but clean enough to the American context. We could inspire us to improve our individual visits to Europe, which are sometimes a little too “light” for the presentation of goods and the level of information transmitted. Buyers are now very aware, so we must redouble our efforts to satisfy customers today. To do so, here are our four tips to score customers mind and ensure to make a sale:

1: SHOW YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA

In Europe, you would not go so far as to make a video about the neighborhood or offer chocolate bread bought at the bakery of the corner, it would even be misunderstood. By cons, everyone asks himself vis-à-vis the localization issues. Therefore, it may be convenient to discuss the topic, prepare a map of a good quality (minimum A4) on which would be placed:

The property for sale

Access to public transportation

schools

business

Other points of interest such as recreation

In parallel, you might even have a tablet on a table with the Google Map application opened with the address of the property. This would allow visitors to make their own research on time to ask you questions and you answer them by removing certain bottlenecks. WARNING: Make sure to get the codes of the owner of the Internet connection! If there is no connection for any reason; use your 3G connection or planning a paper plane.

2: TELL NEIGHBOURS ABOUT THE VISIT

Much of buyers already living in the neighborhood for property for sale. It is adjacent to rent or seeking to expand or whose needs have evolved over time. The neighbors therefore a target should not be neglected. Further to our article on real estate advertising flyers please prepare a flyer upstream from the sale of the property and distribute it at the beginning of the sale 150-200 nearest neighbors. The ERA real estate network in Belgium has such a special mailing called “Magic” to alert the neighbors of the sale of a neighboring house. How to distribute this tract? In almost unanimously reflex will drop it in a mailbox but take the time to do this distribution yourself at least a few key people. You will be surprised that you will get back on the history of the item for sale on potential interested persons, etc.

Another idea similar to the agents who have a residents emails files, they can send an e-mailing announcing the sale. Must of course remain careful not to spam your contacts but assayed; it can be an effective way to inform a sale in the area and hope that this e-mailing or transferred to other people. Neighbors are always curious about life in the neighborhood, so it is very likely that these flyers or e-mails are well accepted.

3: BE VERY WELL PREPARED

Come well prepared for a visit, basically you never know what can be discovered on the property to sell at the time of a visit. Go ahead check that everything is in order, open all components to make the bright place, ventilate if necessary, etc. To be sure not to forget anything, prepare a “visits kit for the realtor” in which you put your list of items to check, a meter measuring the flyers you have prepared, tablet, some household products (if the scene were soiled during a visit to welcome the following clients), toilet paper (always useful if the property sold is empty), etc.

4: PROVIDE A LITTLE ATTENTION

In the US, we could propose a drink and cookies. In other countries, buyers have the impression of being “bought”. For plan against some little touches that will make pleasant visit:

ift.tt/1EwQwiw

Coats: make sure that the doors coats are free to ask the coats visitors or there is a convenient place to do it.

Strollers: again if visitors come stroller, they must be allowed to drop easily from the start to avoid saying on arrival “This place is really not practical …”.

Traffic: visits are usually made with the agent and the buyer’s side 1-2 people or more times. You may find yourself quickly to be a small group and the traffic can be a bit tricky in places.

So plan to identify the areas of movement because the size of a dwelling is a subjective perception all, you only have to walk around furniture to move in a large space to feel that the space is small. You can be only advise to follow some rules of Home Staging to optimize the item for sale.

Refresh if the visit takes place in the summer without offering a glass of champagne, offering a cool drink of water can be a very good starting point for a visit. So remember to put the expenses a jug of water that is a nice and clean design.

Finally, be a good real estate agents as you know to be, that is to say, attentive and tuned to capture the needs of your buyers and therefore best meet their expectations. What other advice relative pros visits do you have to share to other real estate agents?

Dogs are almost identical to humans. You share many commonalities with your dog. One of the most notable is that you’re both going to age. The good news is that you can take steps to protect your dogs. By reading Extend pets reviews, you will discover that some joint care products can help. What is Extend for dogs all about and what benefits will it provide? You’ll find out below.

You’ve probably used supplements for your own health at some point. Well, there are dog supplements as well. Extend is designed to provide the pooch with the nutrients needed to keep their joints healthy and active. The product contains glucosamine, MSM and ascorbic acid. This combination will help lubricate the joints while eliminating those aches and pains. This can help your dog maintain the highest quality of life possible.

Health Benefits Of Extend Joint Care

Like humans, dogs sometimes need supplements to keep their joints healthy. As dogs age, the synovial fluid responsible for lubricating their joints decreases, resulting in pain and poor range of motion.

Another common aging problem linked to decreased levels of glucosamine is poor mobility. This is where Extend Joint Care comes into play, as it contains a natural compound found in the body known as glucosamine. This very important compound helps improve the health of cartilage, a cushioning tissue located between the joints and bones. Like humans, dogs can develop arthritis when they get older.

A previous study, known as GAIT, which stands for Glucosamine/Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial, revealed that when glucosamine is combined with chondroitin sulfate, pain associated with knee osteoarthritis is reduced significantly.

Joint Repair

Vitamin C plays a major role in healthy bone development. However, a 2008 study revealed that it could also help decrease bone loss in elderly men. According to a researcher at Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center and senior author of the study, vitamin C affects the bone density in men. The study also focused on women, but no effects on the bone density in the female participants were revealed.

As an “antioxidant vitamin”, vitamin C has the capability of decreasing oxidative stress, which has shown to negatively affect human cells. This basically means that vitamin C can fight against inflammation that causes bone resorption.

While it is unclear whether vitamin C will offer the same effects for dogs, it never hurts to add a supplement to their daily diet. Each serving of Extend Joint Care contains 10 milligrams of vitamin C, which will slow this resorption and prevent further damage to your dog’s bone, cartilage and joints.

Improves Range Of Motion

Most aging dogs exhibit a poor range of motion, which is associated with deteriorating joints and other tissue. While this is just a normal part of the aging process, it is possible to slow the progress of the deterioration. The solution is no other than Extend Joint Care.

Rebuilds Articular Cartilage

Articular cartilage is absolutely essential to your dog’s mobility. This white cartilage is a smooth tissue, which is found on the ends of the bones in the joints. This type of cartilage is responsible for ensuring that the bones are able to glide over each other smoothly and with as little friction as humanly possible. As your dog begins to age, the articular cartilage will shrink to some degree. Extend can help. The ingredients found in this product are capable of rebuilding articular cartilage. In return, this can help your dog move easier and without any pain.

Anti-Inflammatory

Since Extend contains glucosamine, this supplement possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties. This is very important for a dog that is suffering from stiff, tight muscles. That stiffness is often caused by inflammation. By using Extend, your dog will be able to reduce the swelling. This can help to increase their mobility and dull their pain to some degree.

Greatly Improving Mobility

Whether your four-legged friend is an old dog or a young pup, there is nothing worse than watching him limp around with mobility problems. Maybe he is just old with joint pain or maybe he is suffering from some type of joint disease. Whatever the situation is, dogs are known for running, playing ball, and just having an all-around good time. Well, if you want to get your pet back to that state this is where Extend Joint Care can come in handy.

As you have already seen, this product comes along with a lot of benefits, but perhaps the biggest benefit is the improved mobility. Since the product contains natural anti-inflammatory properties and joint lubricant, it can work wonders on the joints. Not only will your dog seem less stiff than he normally is, but there is a good chance that he might be back and play like his old self again.

No Negative Side Effects

While there are a lot of medications available on the market that can assist with joint pain, many of them come along with negative unwanted side effects. Sure, you want to see your dog move around better with improved mobility, but you don’t want to see in puking or feeling down in the process. When it comes to Extend Joint Care, there has not been any reported negative side effects when administering this supplement. Some pet owners have said that their dogs experienced upset stomachs for the first few days of treatment, but this went away after the dog got used to it.

Improving The Immune System

Your dog’s immune system is without a doubt his most valuable tool when it comes to fighting off diseases and infections. In fact, it is also the human’s most valuable tool as well. This is why it is always imperative to ensure that your dog’s immune system is working in top condition and Extend Joint Care can help with this.

List Of Ingredients And What They Do

To better understand the perks of Extend Joint Care, you should learn more about the product’s active ingredients. The Extend Dog Supplement will provide your dog with glucosamine HCI and MSM or Methyl Sulfonyl Methane. The product also contains ascorbic acid. These ingredients will be explored in greater depth below.

Glucosamine

The body contains glucosamine naturally. It is also available in supplement form. It works similarly for humans and canines. This chemical is responsible for maintaining the health of the cartilage, which is the tissue that cushions the bones at the joints. As your dog gets older, the levels of glucosamine in your dog’s body will drop. It is believed that taking glucosamine supplements can help offset this problem.

MSM

MSM or methyl sulfonyl methane offers a wealth of benefits. It is great for joint problems, but it is also capable of boosting the immune system, fighting off free radicals and supporting proper intestinal functions. MSM is available in supplement form and you can buy it as a lotion. MSM can help repair joints, ligaments and tendons. It can also help form connective tissue. MSM is a good choice for alleviating inflamed and painful joints.

Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic acid is nothing more than Vitamin C. Vitamin C is very important, because it can help maintain connective tissue. If your dog is experiencing mobility issues, there is a good possibility that vitamin C will be able to help to some degree.

Type II Chicken Collagen

The Extend Supplement also contains Type II chicken collagen. This is a great addition, because it is a vital building block for guaranteeing that the dog’s articular cartilage is healthy.

Extend Joint Care Dosage For Dogs

Extend Joint Care is an amazing product that was specifically designed to ensure the safety of your dog’s joints and help fight aging. While it is not known for producing any unwanted side effects and it was designed for dogs of all sizes, you still need to know how to properly dose your dog. One package will contain thirty tubes within a plastic jar. As far as dosing goes, all you have to do is sprinkle one packet over your dog’s food once a day. Extend Joint Care will work with dry or mixed day food. You can just pour it straight over your dog’s food or you can mix it with water and pour it on your dog’s food.

Whatever the situation is, you probably know your dog better than anyone and know what he or she likes best. Keep in mind that larger dogs over eighty pounds have shown better results with one whole tube, while dogs under eight pounds have shown improved results with just half a tube. Results should start to show up within four to six weeks after administering the first treatment. At the end of the day, Extend is 100% proven safe and effective, so whatever dose you give your pet you don’t have to worry about negative side effects.

How Can I Tell That My Dog Needs Extend Joint Care?

When it comes down to it, many dogs will not need the Extend Dog Supplement. You need to be proactive to determine when your pooch needs to begin taking it. You should start paying very close attention to your dog and his or her behavior. Have you noticed that your dog is a little stiffer than normal? This can be a sign that they’re experiencing stiff joints. You should also consider the dog’s age. When your dog gets older, the levels of glucosamine in his or her body will drop significantly. This can cause many mobility issues. Once your dog becomes a senior, you should definitely think about giving them Extend.

It is also a good idea to monitor your dog’s activity level. Have they suddenly become lethargic? There is a chance that this has something to do with their joints. Giving the dog Extend may help. When experiencing joint issues, many dogs will move awkwardly. They will also refuse to jump up and down the stairs. In some cases, you may actually notice swelling or inflammation around the joints. Some dogs will also develop a bad temper.

Strange movements

Stiffness

Trouble standing

Won’t climb stairs

Inflammation near the joints

Has developed a bad temper

Again, keep an eye on your dog and monitor their activity level. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, you should definitely consult with your vet. If your dog is indeed suffering from joint problems, you should ask your vet about Extend Joint Care for dogs. It could make a huge difference in the long run.
