How to Install Metal Roofs in Bushwick?

Why Buy A New Airstream Rooftop AC?Your Airstream rooftop AC has seen its best days and you are ready to replace it with a new unit. The newer rooftop units are more efficient and do a better job of cooling your Airstream than the older models ever did. This article is intended help you replace the old rooftop cooling unit yourself with very little effort on your part. The Airstream travel trailer in this article is a 1986 Airstream Sovereign with an old Coleman Mach rooftop air conditioner which had given good service over the years. The fan motor is giving problems and to replace it would cost too much money when a new unit could be purchased for a little over twice the price of repairs. Even if the fan motor was replaced, AC compressor is old and could malfunction at any time. This would necessitate spending more money on repairs than a new rooftop unit would cost. So the obvious solution was to install a new cooling unit on the Airstream Sovereign travel trailer. Choosing and Buying A New Airstream ACWe chose to go back with a Coleman 13,500 BTU rooftop AC because it had the same overhead clearance as the previous Coleman unit. Also, it came complete with the ceiling assembly and nothing else was needed, unlike some of the other units made by Carrier and Dometic. It was the best rooftop air conditioner for the money of those we researched, plus the ease of replacing a similar unit was taken in consideration. This same RV A/C is sold on this page along with other fine units made by Carrier and Dometic which are also well know for their efficiency and reliability. The choice is yours to decide as to the make and model of your new cooling unit and as they are all installed similarly, this article will work just as well for all of them. The new Coleman air conditioner arrived in only two days so we began by examining it closely to ascertain it wasn’t damaged while being shipped. It was in perfect shape and we were ready to begin the installation process. Removing The Old A/C Because of the shiny aluminum skin covering most Airstream travel trailers, it is very important to use proper support and padding to prevent damage to roof covering while replacing the rooftop unit. This includes removing the old unit carefully and cleaning the roof thoroughly before installing the new one in your Airstream.Be sure to disconnect the electrical power from the trailer before removing the old unit. Remove the old ceiling assembly and disconnect the main electrical line from the AC unit. If you are hesitant about doing the electrical connections yourself then have someone experienced do this for you. There are only three wires to disconnect and removing them should pose no problems for you at this time. Remove the 4 bolts used for attaching the old rooftop unit to the ceiling assembly. After removing the AC shroud by loosening the 4 nuts holding it in place, the old rooftop unit can be carefully removed and lowered to the ground. Airstream A/C Installation PreparationIn some cases the Airstream AC gasket has been treated with a sealant, perhaps several times over the many camping seasons. These sealants usually cause the old rooftop AC units to be stuck in place which requires using a thin putty knife to separate the old gasket from the Airstream roof. Carefully slide the putty knife beneath the old gasket until the unit can be easily removed. Remove any lingering roof coating adhesive with a strong solvent being careful not to let it discolor the area outside of the new gasket contact area. Check for any jagged edges or rough spots which could cause the gasket to allow moisture to seep through. This is a very important step to prevent leaks around the new rooftop AC unit. You are now ready to transport the new unit to the rooftop of your Airstream travel trailer. Unless you are very strong you will need some help with this job. Be very careful if using ladders as it is easy to lose your balance while lifting the new air condtioner. First, remove the new protective shroud to facilitate ease of handling and placement. Installing The New RV Air Conditioner Situating the new rooftop AC unit correctly requires some help to keep from having to go up and down the ladder several times to check both inside, and on the rooftop, to correctly align the new unit. By loosely connecting the 4 retaining bolts through the ceiling flange, you can move the new rooftop unit around until it is evenly spaced in the 14” square duct hole in the Airstream roof.Once you have the new unit in the right spot you can tighten the bolts which compresses the new gasket and insure a watertight seal. If you purchased the optional heating element for your rooftop AC, proceed to install it according to the enclosed directions. This is a simple plug in assembly for electrical connections.Connect the Airstream line electrical wires to the new AC unit by using wire nuts and replacing the cover of the junction box. The ceiling assembly is usually attached by 4 screws to the ceiling flange. Install the new rooftop AC shroud with the 4 retaining nuts. Reconnect the power supply to the Airstream and the job is finished. Using and maintaining your new Airstream ACTest the new unit to ensure everything is working correctly with no circuit breakers kicking off. Now you are ready to stay cool for many seasons to come while enjoying your classic Airstream travel trailer. Good luck on the installation and congratulations on the money you will save by installing the rooftop unit on your Airstream yourself. By doing annual maintenance such as cleaning the coils and oiling the AC fan motor, you will ensure proper efficiency and cooling of your Airstream travel trailer for many years of camping enjoyment for you and your future grandchildren.

The differences between Netflix’s Fyre Festival documentary and Hulu’s are subtle, but the one thing that Hulu didn’t have was Andy King. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, his face, voice, and words will: “I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh…I’m really’—and I got into my car to drive across the island to take one for the team. And I got to his office fully prepared to suck his d*ck.”

Now in a new interview with Netflix, King says that he’s blown away by the reaction to the documentary. He’s most surprised because he doesn’t have a social media presence of his own.

“When someone reached out last weekend and said, ‘you’re trending’, [I was] like, ‘I don’t even know what trending means.’ People are talking about you… and yesterday people were like, ‘you’re a ME ME’, I’m like ‘What’s a ME ME?’”

However, King believes that the media attention can be used as a force for good. He’s putting his social weight behind the various GoFundMes working to pay back the laborers and workers of Fyre Festival.

That being said, he still doesn’t believe a legacy based on sucking d*ck is something to hang his hat on: “I just don’t necessarily want to be known as the blow job king of the world.”

Andy King has seen all of your FYRE Fest memes — and he loves them! pic.twitter.com/mCNgDoHpjW

It is essential to know about the Wedding Photographer before the contract and whether there was “that feeling” that will allow you to be the way you are. For this you might want to look at a previous photo shoot (at no charge to the client) where you can see the result of the images and if you felt comfortable with the photographer.

Find out how to reach the top professional The world of photography is quite interesting and full of alternatives. Most often, photographers have a website displaying different services and specific channels dedicated to other complementary sectors to photography, such as Advertising Agencies, Modeling Agencies, makeup or photo shops. They will normally display a testimonial page also which enables them to showcase what people think of a great wedding photographer.

Wedding Facts

Apart from the wedding cake and dress, most important is the choice of the wedding photos. Opt for the top professional for Wedding Photography, leaving behind the stress of the ceremony. Among others you have to take into account the time, how far the area of the party is, which has several “landscapes” that shots are varied and security of the area (not to go with the face of “an eye that robs us “). The average of these jacks is 45 to 90 minutes.

The contract

It is imperative to keep things clear. So, once you sign the contract, you are hiring a photographer, at least, ask for a simple receipt for the service. You might want to demand a contract stating:

– Name of the Wedding Photographer Sydney, model of the camera.

– Types of lenses, flashes, lights.

– A number of photos that the professional will take and deliver.

– Service before shooting with the photographer hired.

Service Coverage.

Find out whether it will cover the Civil and the post-meeting after the church or the party and so on. What if it rains? All these Wedding Photography Sydney aspects are often covered by the top professionals. Also, ask about:

– Reconciling video clip to show at the party.

– Pages of photos of the honeymoon.

– Mode of delivery of the finished work: Delivery on DVD. Cases of photos/video and print albums.

– Does the photographer deliver the originals?

– Deadline for submission of Best Wedding Photographer Sydney samples.

– Delivery of the finished

Total cost of service.

Price per photo extra to the contract may vary. Find out about payment methods. You cannot forget about any key point.

To conclude, a good photographer- well chosen- happens to be like the doctor. This professional will be “there” whenever you need and will accompany you at various times in your life.

Many important moments are hard to ignore, opt for top International Wedding Photographer solutions and get ready to store emotions. The best wedding photographer is one who knows that your wedding day is one of the most important times in your life and that you are the queen of the ceremony!

Akshay Kumar to star in the remake of the South film Veeram

With Toilet – Ek Prem Katha continuing its successful run in theatres, Akshay Kumar is currently making plans to ring in his 50th birthday with his family and loved ones. But right after the birthday fervor, the actor will resume work that includes his film commitments. Amidst a series of films that he has said to have signed, now reports claim that Akshay Kumar has been roped for yet another South remake.

Akshay Kumar, who is known for his action packed roles, will now be a part of the Bollywood remake of the Ajith starrer Veeram which has been tentatively titled Land Of Lungi. This is not the first time where the actor has decided to play the lead in a South remake since he has previously essayed the protagonist’s role in remakes such as Rowdy Rathore and Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.

Reportedly, Farhad of the Sajid-Farhad duo has been roped in to make his solo directorial debut with this film and it is said to be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. As for Akshay’s role, it is being said that the actor will be sporting a lungi clad avatar throughout the film and it will be a rural based drama set in the heartland of India.

The film will feature Akshay as the unmarried brother of three, as the trio decides to follow the footsteps of their elder brother. However, the twist in the tale arises when it is revealed that the three brothers of this bade bhaiya are actually in love with three women and in their attempt to tie the knot with their respective lovers, they make a plan to get their eldest sibling fall in love with someone. What follows is a series of twists along with some high octane fighting sequences with the bad guys, right till the climax.

The original, Veeram starred Tamannaah Bhatia as the leading lady opposite Ajith. Interestingly, the actress has previously been paired with Akshay too in the Bollywood film Entertainment. However, it remains to be seen if their pairing is repeated in this South remake.

On the other hand, Akshay Kumar has a series of films that he needs to focus on as of now, which includes PadMan, 2.0, Gold, Mogul and the film tentatively titled Kesar.

Naturally, the popular version of formalism, which was already casually formulated by Nietzsche, is indefensible. For the artist, form is supposed to be the real content of the work. Art plays with form for its own sake. Content only does service as an alibi. This type of formalism, which, incidentally, cannot be eradicated, is, in fact, no more than a kind of bourgeois aestheticism. Ostensibly, art would be about playing, as much as possible, on the aesthetic—literally: the sensory—registers contained in a medium.

“Sex and the City” star Kristin Davis has found the perfect match, with the purchase of a home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles for $5,289,000, Variety reported. Cosmos all around!

The home sold in late March, and Davis got a discount. It originally hit the market last summer with a list price of $6.6 million. Earlier this year, the price was further discounted to $6.2 million. And the savvy 53-year-old actress managed to knock another million bucks off the amount it took to close the deal.

The “postmodern-meets-Mediterranean villa” as Variety put it, offers five beds, seven baths, and 6,541 square feet on a little over half an acre. The home’s entry features a dramatic two-story foyer and continues to a great room with French doors that open out to the outdoor dining area, pool, gardens, and views of the canyon, ocean, and city.

The layout also offers a formal dining area and library that open to patios, ideal for entertaining a group of close girlfriends. The eat-in kitchen includes a breakfast bar, butler’s pantry, and wine cellar. An ensuite guest room and a laundry room complete the main floor. Upstairs, the master suite features two bathrooms, a sitting area, and a private balcony that overlooks the pool.

In addition, there’s a separate wing with a private entrance that includes two rooms and a bathroom that could be converted into an studio, gym, or another master suite.

No doubt the Emmy-winning actress appreciates the seclusion of the gated property with a long private drive, located above the Getty Center next to the Santa Monica mountains.

The actress had previously owned a smaller Brentwood property she purchased in 1998 for just under $700,000, Variety notes.

Davis played the character Charlotte York in the long-running HBO series “Sex and the City,” and also starred in the spinoff movies for the big screen. She’s also known for the role of Brooke Armstrong from the soapy night-time drama “Melrose Place.”

Hi, I am Theresa Williams. After I have been together with Anderson for years, he suddenly left me. I have done everything to bring him back, but it was all for nothing. I wanted him back so much because of all the love I felt for him. I tried everything, I begged him, I made impossible promises, but he refused.

I told my closest friend of my misery and she proposed to go to a magician with my problem. to cast a spell that would bring Anderson back to me. I am not the type to fall for something like that, but I did not have a choice. I mailed the spell caster and he was quick to respond, that everything would be ook and within three days, Anderson would come back to me. And so he cast his spell.

I could not believe my eyes, when on the second day, around 4 in the afternoon, the phone rang and it was Anderson and he said, he was sorry, and he missed me so much and that he wanted to have me back, I was so happy and I went to him and we live together now as happy as you can be.

Since then, I promised, to tell everyone with relationship problems to go to the same one and true and mighty spell caster that helped me bring my love back to me, so that he helps them the way that he has helped me.

Newton gets selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars

The second half of September is always an exciting one. After all, it’s the time when the Film Federation of India (FFI) decides which film should be the official entry of India to the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. And this time, it’s a Hindi film that has got the coveted chance. That flick is none other than Eros International and Colour Yellow Productions’ Newton, which incidentally has also released today in theatres.

Newton is a story of a rookie government officer who goes to the Naxal-infested jungles of Chhattisgarh to conduct free and fair elections there and how his righteousness leads to hilarious and even shocking consequences. The lead role is essayed by Rajkummar Rao and the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav. It is directed by Amit Masurkar, who rose to prominence with the indie film Sulemani Keeda. Newton had its world premiere at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.

Aanand L Rai of Colour Yellow Productions said, “Good films need to reach the audience. Period. We as a production company are lucky to be in a place that we can be instrumental in this process. Over the years people have found connect with Colour Yellow Productions and good storytelling and we don’t want to let go of any opportunity that we get in this regard. Newton is an important film and we will call it an investment not a punt. We really believe the film it’s getting what is deserves and hope it soars more heights.”

Director Amit Masurkar says, “It’s a great honour for us to represent India at the Oscars. We hope this film will bring attention to the need to strengthen democracy in our country. The film is in theatres at the moment and this announcement will help us reach out to a larger audience.”

Manish Mundra, founder of Drishyam Films and producer of Newton says, “This is the most incredible news of our lives – all of our hard work and faith is finally paying off. Newton is a very important film and we cannot thank the Film Federation of India jury enough for recognising and appreciating our efforts. There is truly no greater honour than representing our country at the global stage. And for the news to be announced on the day of Newton‘s theatrical release across India – the stars are truly aligning for us. The critics have spoken, and now we cannot wait for our Indian audiences to go watch the film in the theatres.”

Sunil Lulla, Managing Director, Eros International Media Ltd says, “It gives us immense pleasure that Newton is India’s official entry to Oscars 2018. We at Eros are extremely proud as this film is totally deserving of this huge honour and we will continue to back good cinema as always.”

This is the second time in years that a film currently running in theatres has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. The last such film in recent times that also had a similar experience was the 2012 film Barfi, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz. The selection of Barfi however led to major controversies as the film was criticized for lifting scenes from prominent Hollywood and other world cinema films. The year after, 2013, saw the biggest fight of Oscar race ever. A small Gujarati film, The Good Road, was sent to Oscars which angered and shocked everyone in the industry. It was the same year when The Lunchbox, starring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, had hit screens and had created waves across the world like never before. It was believed that The Lunchbox had high chances of picking an Oscar and that India lost a chance of winning the golden trophy. From 2014 onwards however, all the choices have been controversy-free – the small budget Liar’s Dice, hard-hitting Marathi film Court and the intense Tamil thriller Visaranai respectively.

Farah Khan says she is overworked and underpaid for ‘Lip Sing Battle’

After a considerable gap, Farah Khan is back to TV with the musical show ‘Lip Sing Battle’. It is the Indian adaptation of the popular ‘Lip Sync Battle’. Prominent celebrities like Farhan Akhtar, Parineeti Chopra, Preity Zinta, Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar etc have performed on the stage and as per reports, they have rocked the show. ‘Lip Sing Battle’ also made news when Shah Rukh Khan paid a special visit on the sets to wish luck to Farah, who is her old friend.

Farah Khan has opened up that she is not just the presenter on the show – she is also completely involved in its nitty-gritties, like getting the actors, planning the creatives and even deciding the songs. However, she adds that she wasn’t paid more for the extra work done by her. She joked that she has over worked and has been under paid for ‘Lip Sing Battle’.

‘Lip Sing Battle’ features celebrities lip syncing to a popular song. Farah Khan has promised that the competitive streak of the show has ensured that each episode has turned into a laugh-a-minute riot. She also assured that audiences will get a chance to see the unexplored, mad and fun side of their favourite stars. For instance, she said that Farhan Akhtar, who is soft-spoken and has a reserved image in public, has gone crazy on the show. Even Shaan surprised her with his fun side.

While talking to the media for ‘Lip Sing Battle’, Farah Khan was also simultaneously talking to Ayushmann Khurrana who will be seen in ‘Lip Sing Battle’. Farah admitted that Ayushmann will be teamed up with Raveena Tandon and that the actor-singer is excited. Caste reference edited out of Toilet – Ek Prem Katha

Just a few days before its release Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is embroiled in a caste controversy. A character in the film was heard saying, “I am a Brahmin. But I eat eggs.”

While initially the Central Board Of Film Certification let the line go thinking it is more an individual comment than a comment on any caste or community, it was soon brought to light that the seemingly casual line secretes a caste bias.

“We’ve asked the makers of Toilet – Ek Prem Katha to remove the caste reference. The word ‘Brahmin’ is not allowed specially when seen to be speaking on behalf of the community. The line propagates the myth that Brahamins are strict vegetarians. We cannot allow sweeping generalizations on any caste or community,” says a source from the CBFC.

The line referring to a Brahmin who eats eggs would have to be removed. “The caste system has been abolished in India. If today J P Dutta wants to make Kshatriya or the late Vijay Anand were to make Rajput the titles would not be allowed,” says a CBFC source, adding that way back in 2008 a reference to a lohar (ironsmith) had to be removed from a song and dance featuring Madhuri Dixit in Aaja Nachle.

The censor board has asked the makers of Bombay Velvet to remove the word ‘dhobi’ from a song in the film.

According to guidelines all references to members of any specific caste or community is strictly prohibited through censorial guidelines. “Aamir Khan’s Dhobi Ghat had to get a clearance from the dhobi community before it could be called that,” says a source from the censor board.

For 25 years, celebrity healer Audrey Hope has been tasked with ridding homes of bad vibes, ominous energy, and unwanted memories.

She’ll never forget the husband and wife who both were diagnosed with cancer after moving into their new home. When Hope arrived to assess the situation, she was struck with the vision of an old man sitting in their living room.

“He was unhappy that this new couple was living in what used to be ‘his’ house,” she says.

You might think that story was pulled straight from the script of “The Conjuring” or one of its sequels. But whether or not you’re a believer, chances are good you’ve encountered bad vibes on your own—that nagging feeling that you’re not comfortable in a particular home but can’t put your finger on why.

So we consulted with some spiritual experts to uncover how bad vibes happen—and ways you can rid your home of them.

How does a house get bad vibes?

A house does hold onto the energy of the people who live—or once lived—there, says Laura Benko, a modern feng shui expert and author of “The Holistic Home: Feng Shui for Mind, Body, Spirit, Space.”

“If the predominant energy was mostly negative—such as violence, illness, or depression—that energy can be imbued into the atmosphere of a space,” Benko explains.

What’s worse? Bad vibes don’t dissipate over time, and can attract—and perpetuate—similar negative patterns in the future.

But the vibes can go both ways, notes Jaya Jaya Myra, author of “Vibrational Healing: Attain Balance & Wholeness.”

“Happy people will also leave the imprint of their positive energy in a home,” says Myra, who regularly performs space clearings and home blessings. “Although the more negative emotions tend to be denser and hang around longer if not consciously cleared out.”

Just know that there’s a difference between having a crappy day and being surrounded by bad juju in your home.

If you’re experiencing the latter, you may feel like someone’s watching you, according to Davida Rappaport, an intuitive and spiritual counselor. You could feel hot or cold spots in your house that make you uncomfortable. Your skin may crawl. You might even get lightheaded, feel faint, or have trouble breathing.

If you notice any of the above symptoms, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s what to do next.

1. Do a deep clean

Just as you’d scrub the dirt, grease, and grime from a home, you need to deep-clean its vibes, too.

“Burning sage in a space can help clear the negative energy and also micro-contaminants in the air,” Myra says. “It has a strong purifying effect and is a great catch-all for cleaning up most sorts of unwanted energy.”

To use it on your own, light a bunch of sage and blow out the flame. Then move around the home, blowing smoke into each corner, closet, and floor of the home, advises Maureen K. Calamia, author of “Creating Luminous Spaces.”

2. Absorb all that bad energy

Salt isn’t just for seasoning food: “It’s great at keeping out unwanted energies,” Myra explains.

Gently mist saltwater on your baseboards or carpet. Or, if you don’t have curious toddlers or mischievous pets, place a few cups of coarse sea salt in central spaces to help absorb any bad juju in your home.

“Be sure to remove them 24 hours later and throw them away outside,” Calamia says. “Any longer than that and negative energy starts seeping back in.”

3. Deploy something stronger than air freshener

Certain essential oils can be helpful in clearing out old energy, Myra says—and they can boost your mood, too. (Because who can live among bad vibes and be happy about it?)

Lemon is energizing, lavender is relaxing, and peppermint can both purify and invigorate.

4. Visualize a positive energy

There’s something to be said for positive thinking. And even if you’re feeling anxious about all this talk of bad vibes, keeping an upbeat attitude can help reduce the amount you worry.

Try standing in a central place in your home, saying a prayer, and visualizing your home blessed with golden-white light, Calamia suggests. State your positive intentions and goals for the coming year—yes, even if one of those is to bring better vibes into your home.

5. Try meditation

You know that daily yoga practice you’ve always wanted to start? Or how you’ve been declaring for years that you’re going to get yourself some inner peace? Now’s the time.

“Cultivating a spiritual or meditative practice in your home is a great way to keep positive energy in your space,” Myra says.

6. Call a professional

Who you gonna call? It’s a personal decision, based on how much intervention you think your home needs.

Arguably the most mainstream choice is a feng shui practitioner who can help adjust “energy imbalances” in your home. A spiritual practitioner can perform rituals with incense or sage (and also throw in a house blessing).

Have a hard-core issue? “Consult a psychic or someone who specializes in exorcising spirits or energy,” Rappaport says.

7. Consider other explanations

In love with a home, but can’t shake the bad vibes? Before you walk away, consider alternative reasons for this feeling.

“Some people are more sensitive to their surroundings than others,” points out Tina Williams, a broker with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty in Scottsdale, AZ. “Electromagnetic fields and infrasound are both responsible for making people have feelings of paranoia, nausea, headaches, and a general ill feeling.”

There could also be even simpler explanations why a home doesn’t feel right to you.

For instance, “if a home smells masculine and there are traces of bachelor-type living with kids’ pictures around, then a buyer will subconsciously—or consciously—pick up on it ‘feeling like a divorce,’” Williams points out.

Sometimes, just having a home professionally cleaned may be enough to change your initial impression.

“People need to picture themselves in a home,” Williams says, “not try to picture who was there before.”

Last summer, BUILD met with engineer-architect-artist, Cecil Balmond at his London Studio to discuss his most recent projects and the thinking behind his experimental design process. Prior to opening Balmond Studio, his career spanned 40-plus years at Ove Arup & Partners where he worked on pioneering projects with renowned architects all over the globe. Balmond discussed the notion of architecture in a dynamic environment, the designer’s intuition, and his most recent projects. For part 1 of the conversation, hop over to ARCADE Magazine, Issue 36.1, available in print and on their website.

Tell us about your previous role as Deputy Chairman at Arup, where you led thousands of engineers and architects.

There were seven of us on the board of directors at Arup and I was head of building business globally with around 6,000 people under my supervision. When I joined, Arup was a company of about 5,000 people and when I left it was 11,000 people. The job was a huge bureaucratic task in one way, but on the other hand, I was the only director who had an active design group. My design group ranged from 25 to 60 people and we handled about 30 jobs per year. I would choose two or three of these projects and I’d personally lead the design.

It was at this time that I began setting up the Arup architectural practices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Turkey, as well as the sector architectures such as ARUP Sport and Arup Health. Arup Sport was a great success and we hired expert architects to lead the projects, like Richard Rogers and Norman Foster.

How would you characterize the spirit at Arup?

Arup was a special organization because really it was led by Ove Arup at the beginning, who was a philosopher and a mathematician more so than an engineer. He was a man of the world with open ideas. That way of being really filtered down to certain people, like myself and others, who, if I’m honest, believed in design, and not necessarily engineering or architecture. Design was a much wider thing to us. Architecture had its own expert skill zone, and when it comes to the real grit of architecture, the specifications, window schedules, and the engineering, there is a horrendous, humungous amount of calculating to be done. But those are the mechanical parts of it. A great engineer is simply wonderful to watch at work because they’re intuitive, and I don’t just mean structural engineers, but environmental engineers, lighting engineers, etc. They’re dealing with intangibles almost, and yet they have an intuition that influences the building in a very holistic way. This method of working significantly contributed to my thinking that there are no limits in design.

Was there a particular moment or project that encouraged you to formalize your practice as an engineer-architect-artist?

No, it’s like a lot of things in life, you drift. It’s a question of being an opportunist. Occasions occur where your instinct is primed to take advantage of key opportunities. If you are a creative person, you are pushing, not knowing what you are pushing at and then something comes up and you just jump, you take it, and I think my career has been a series of those jumps.

There was a cathartic moment at about age 35 when I was smoking outside my office and decided when I went back in I could never do the same thing again. It was that decisive, I just knew. But I didn’t know what was next. So, I went back in and threw out all my learning and started learning again. I went through a personal mentorship for the next five years. I studied at night, going back to the original treaties of mathematics, going back to the three forbidding books and six postulates of the Greek mathematician Euclid. I went back to the very first precepts set by the Greeks, like the philosophy of the point above a line, above a plane, the line being drawn through thepoint, above the plane, being parallel, and so on. The books written about those postulates engaged my mind totally. It provided me with a mobile sense of geometry. Those postulates soon led to the idea of proportion.

The next step took five to ten years and it involved believing in a mobile sense of geometry, where forms are constantly in motion and architecture is only a snapshot in time. This led to a proportional sense of space and ultimately an episodic treatment of design. This sequence was dependent on releasing my hand and thinking more freely. It required that I start thinking differently about design, that buildings don’t stop at the four corners, and that they don’t necessarily have to have a floor, a roof, and sides. It was a personal odyssey of unlearning and it is key to the work I’m doing today.

Is there a common way that you approach each design project?

The way I work is generally scale-less as an idea. I tend to start with a metaphor or a feeling, something really vague. Then comes a sketch of something in space, some notion of space, or more accurately the notion of the intersection of space between it, it’s interiority, and the relation of the context of where it is. Just purely conceptually and it’s nothing to see yet. It might just be a few lines or a blotch. Then comes the idea of what is it. Is it art, engineering, or an architecture piece? Then comes the functionality, then comes the choice of scale. Once you choose scale, the material locks in. If it’s very small its thread or wire. If its humongous, its steel or trusses. Then comes configuration of scale. Last of all would be structure — actual structure as it means to an architect today. The actual skeleton, the actual thing is the last thing. If you start with that at all, you’ve lost the building. You’ve lost the spirit, you’ve lost what the building can do. At the end of my book Informal, there is a very interesting table of the hierarchy of decision making that goes through my mind.

You note that challenging assumptions is critical to your work. What is a recent example where challenging an assumption made a significant difference to the outcome of the project?

Toyo Ito and I designed the 2002 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion together and we decided to start with a box. Upon looking at a map of London’s Hyde Park, where the Pavilion is located each year, we realized that the park is a collection of crisscrossing lines. Then came the idea that this pavilion is the gathering of lines. We started playing around with algorithms and the type of geometries similar to the movement of a ball around a billiard table until we hit upon a geometry that came back on itself and completed the box. This exercise allowed us to break the boundaries of the envelope and challenge the notion of the box. Even though it was a 50-foot by 50-foot structure, the viewers inside had no idea that they were in a box. Spatially, it was much bigger than the bounding box of its geometry.

Tell us about your discovery of aperiodic tile invented by the mathematician Robert Ammann.

20 years ago, I felt that architects and the graphic arts had no idea what mathematics does, so I started researching numbers. I quickly realized that the prime numbers have powerful sequences that are unpredictable. They look like a kind of music when I interpret them, and they’ve held my interest for years. The geometry of these tiles is based on the prime numbers and this is what makes them aperiodic in that their assembly results in a new pattern each time — they never repeat. Daniel Libeskind and I applied the tile to the V&A Spiral which is the proposal for an extension to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Your QXQ project addresses the need for prefabricated, modular housing. In your experience, what are the hurdles of implementing prefabricated, modular housing on a mass scale?

It’s the biggest challenge in the industry and no one’s cracked it — not even Arup. Years ago, they went in with a huge contractor here in the U.K. who does housing and they spent a lot of money researching prefab design. The result ended up looking like every other prefab. And that’s the problem, because in the end, for mass production, you need corners and right angles, and once you have corners and right angles, to save money you close the surface and then you’ve got a box. You can go and cut corners and triangles out and make it look interesting, but it’s still a box. You haven’t cracked the sense of living.

In order to be successful, prefabrication shouldn’t start with conventional ideas. It would be great to think that prefab housing could inject a new idea of living in such prescribed spaces. No one has been successful at this yet and I tried a bit with the QXQ project. So many boxes have already been done and I don’t want to do another box. What can I add to it apart from cuteness and your sensibility of design? I was interested in refuge housing and wanted to investigate low technology, using my ideas to make things less expensive. I wanted to try to use architecture in adaptable ways using cheap materials but highly sophisticated design techniques to make an interesting statement while being functional. My design started with a dodecahedron and sliced off parts. This allows stacking in any direction and, interestingly, it created the idea of a colony of tightly fit modules rather than a collection of prefabricated homes. All the sudden, you’re into biomorphic design and while the architecture and structure are straight-forward, the services become challenging. Where do the ventilation, water, and sewer systems fit? We haven’t quite cracked it yet. We’re building two units as a test, but we really need to build 12 of them to check our assumptions, and we need to be building hundreds of units to be commercially viable. There are a number of interested clients from all over the world and a particular army was interested in 40,000 units. That’s the kind of scale we need to make the concept great, but we need to get the first one right.

Rem Koolhaas cites that, “through your work, engineering can now enter a more experimental and emotional territory.” Are academic engineering programs following your lead?

I know certain architecture and engineering programs have taken my books as curriculum. The Scandinavians were the first to take up Informal, then some universities in the States and in England started using the book. I think it’s impacted young architects more than the engineering community as I suspect that the engineers may be enticed by the work but are afraid to pick up the book because the thinking is so radically different.

How has a non-linear approach to design affected the other areas of your life?

I started organizing parts of my practice at Arup in a non-linear basis and it was very successful. Rather than applying top-down thinking, I began using an informal, emergent thinking. As an example, I deliberately don’t file my books, so I go searching my library and randomly pick a book, and then open up to the middle of the book and I read. That immediately kicks me into something I never even thought of. In the early ‘90s I became convinced that the world was non-linear. We simply fight it to be linear in order to understand it. But actually, it was not understandable in the first place.

You’ve had a synergistic relationship with artist Anish Kapoor, including your collaborations on the 2003 Marsyas exhibit at the Tate Modern, the Temenos sculpture in north England, and the Arcelormittal Orbit built for the 2012 summer Olympics. Tell me a bit about the balance you two have found working together.

Anish and I came together originally for the Marsyas exhibit at the Tate Modern. It’s not so much the mechanics of the form making with Anish, it’s more about the discussions we have of what does it mean. I think that’s the driving spur between us. The mechanics of how you make the form is part of whoever’s skill set it falls under. So, if the items involve big spans, I’m doing it. If it’s an issue of color and surface, he’s doing it. Creative tensions about what is good or not arise, but it’s precisely these discussions that lead to the power of the form. It’s about a visceral reading of the form and how it moves you physically.

In any of these designs, you’ve got non-linear architectures and engineering forms, but it seems like you’re typically able to use a standard kit-of-parts like steel channels and I-beams. Do you feel that the materials and parts ever limit the form factor?

No, because I always take the materials as a given out of pragmatism rather than thinking that I’m going to invent a new material or form. This isn’t to say that you compromise what you’re doing, but you need to rationalize how you’ll build a design and in that comes certain decisions to make about the material.

Do you have any structural inventions that you’re particularly proud of?

The roof of the Arnhem Centraal project in the Netherlands includes a giant column that’s approximately 100-feet wide. It twists in space to support the roof and ground floor planes and it’s one of my best inventions. I thought the design would be prohibitively expensive, but it wasn’t.

Hi, guys!

I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Ours was SO FUN – and it made me even MORE excited for summer on the South Shore. Have I mentioned we’re never leaving?

It’s funny… when we first moved south of Boston, I was so resistant. I couldn’t imagine not living in the city, and I thought the suburbs were so far from life conveniences and things to do. Now, I know I couldn’t be more wrong!

The South Shore is such an amazing place, and we really lucked out with our current situation. I mean, Mal and I grew up northwest of Boston and didn’t know anything about this area. Now, we’re so close to so many awesome places, activities, and friends. Man, I am so pumped for summer!!

Anyway… that was a bit of a tangent. Here’s a recap from our Memorial Day Weekend!

1. Checking out The Hangout at Union Point. If you’re local, this is SUCH a find. The Hangout is a new place to, well, hangout this summer. It kicked off with an epic food truck rodeo, live music, yard games, and a pop-up shopping area.

We went with some friends and, my gosh, we had a great time!

Matching skull tattoos!

2. Learning that The Hangout has a ton of events throughout the summer! Yesssss! Check out the schedule below – there are more food truck rodeos, outdoor movie nights, farmer’s markets, and (not listed, but awesome) is a place called The Brew Can, which is basically an outdoor bar at The Hangout.

There’s so much fun at one place, which just happens to be less than 10 minutes from our house. You’ll definitely see us at The Hangout this summer!

3. Breaking in our Duxbury sticker with our first trip to the beach this summer!

Quinn had a great time at the beach, but I think he played in the car more than on the beach. The kid does what he wants!

4. Enjoying some deeeeelicious Chameleon Cold Brew on the beach! The nice people from Chameleon Cold Brew sent me some of their concentrate to try, and I’m in love. A little goes a long way! It’s so strong and smooth – and perfect for the beach. I plan to pack some every morning we hit up Duxbury!

FYI: My bathing suit is from Target – and the top is super supportive!

5. Cracking open our brand new sunscreen from Beautycounter! I love this stuff and won’t put anything else on my family.

6. Trying this new Zucchini Pizza Crust from KBosh. The nice folks from KBosh sent me some to try, and I’m definitely a fan. It was delicious! The crusts are really thin, so they get nice and crispy. They also come in a bunch of other flavors, including broccoli, spinach, kale, cabbage, and even a cauliflower dessert crust. Neat, right? If you’re interested in trying these crusts for yourself, you can save 10% and get free shipping on 4 packages or more with code keto10.

7. Completing “Murph” 3 minutes faster than I did last year! I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, but it doesn’t “feel” like I am working all that hard at OPEX. I mean, I’m definitely challenging myself and progressing with weights and movements, but I’m not beating myself up like I used to during CrossFit workouts, so I wasn’t really sure how much progress I was making on the fitness front. Finishing Murphy 3 minutes faster and feeling pretty good during the workout was definitely telling to the progress I’ve made in these several weeks. Murph usually crushes me, and it really wasn’t that bad this year!

FYI: I wore my Boston Launch (running sneakers) for this workout because it called for 2 miles, which was a really good decision!

8. A solid grocery shopping and meal prep day! I love setting us up for a healthy week ahead, especially after a fun weekend!

9. Having friends over for dinner and drinks on Sunday night. We made Cabo Calientes (I’m working on an easier beach recipe – no muddling required) and grilled meat and veggies for dinner.

We had such a blast together, so I barely took any photos – except this one at the end of the night. It was clearly a sign of an awesome evening!

Actress and noted house flipper Diane Keaton was 30 and fresh off the success of her title role in “Annie Hall” when she splurged on a palatial New York City apartment 21 stories above Central Park, in the historic San Remo building.

“It was one of those remarkable apartments,” Keaton recalled in an interview last year with Wine Spectator. “There was a window on every side. Everything was wide open. That was the beginning of my true interest in architecture.”

It’s not exactly clear when Keaton, 72, sold the apartment. According to property records, it’s traded hands at least twice since her ownership and was recently listed for $17.5 million.

The apartment spans an entire floor of the building’s south tower and has prime views of The Lake, which is home to picturesque rowboats in the summer and ice skating in the winter.

The three-bedroom, three-bath apartment has been “masterfully restored, reviving the elegance of the San Remo’s original details with the comforts of modern living,” agent Dan Fishman says in the listing.

The apartment’s large living room has a herringbone-patterned wood floor and views of Central Park. The coffered ceiling has been painted white, giving the room an open, airy feel.

Keaton is an avid fan of black and white color schemes at home, and would likely approve of the updated kitchen’s striking color palette for the tiles and backsplash, and stainless-steel appliances.

The dining room comfortably seats eight, and the corner master bedroom is large, with views of the park from every window. There are built-ins in each of the apartment’s three bedrooms, maximizing the available space.

The San Remo has been home to a number of well-known celebrities, notably Demi Moore, Dustin Hoffman, Steve Jobs, Steve Martin, and Steven Spielberg.

“I had to sell it because they wouldn’t let me rent it out. I still really resent that,” Keaton said in an interview last year with Architectural Digest. “You could just see out everywhere! That was my first opportunity to just spatially become acquainted with something that was a big square that could break into other big squares, and it was just filled with light.”

After selling the apartment, Keaton began flipping historic homes in her spare time, while starring in a string of successful movies. Last year, she published her latest book, “The House that Pinterest Built,” which documents her love of architecture and interior design, and how the internet helped shape her design aesthetic.

Here at Aperion Audio, one thing we really love is a great sounding movie. Having a well mixed film not only adds to the realism of the experience, but it’s a great way to show off your awesome speakers! Luckily, we live in a time with an unprecedented level of high-production quality, led by more and more releases of 4K UHD discs that include an Atmos mix. Now that almost 200 titles are already out, we can look forward to a lot more Atmos (plus DTS:X and Auro 3D) soundtracks to further tantalize our tympanic membranes. Obviously there are MANY movies out there with great sound, but here are a few that we love to titillate our corporeal senses, and anyone else who wanders into our headquarters.

San Andreas

This might be one of the best sounding movies we’ve encountered, but it does have an aggressive Atmos mix and tons of low-end boom. Although this is to be expected from an unapologetic disaster flick, they really did a superb job of mixing the dense mesh of sonic elements throughout the sound field. While the opening sequence has some nice content, the action really gets going in chapter 4. The restaurant scene is loaded with overhead sound and once the helicopter rescue begins, it’s an all out barrage that will test the limits of your system.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Star Wars franchise has been synonymous with great sound from its inception. After all, George Lucas was responsible for the first audio/video standardization for theaters, THX , back in 1983. I still even have the original Star Wars trilogy boxset on Laser Disc, which was the pinnacle of audio at the time. But I digress,The Last Jedi is the first Star Wars film to be released in 4K with a Dolby Atmos mix and it doesn’t disappoint. There are numerous space battles fraught with deep explosions and plenty of overhead activity as swarms of fighters engulf the listener. Even in some of the less tense moments, like when Kylo and Rey Force-communicate, the sound permeates all of the channels and produces a truly 3-dimensional experience. The only caveat is this release needs the overall level increased a few ticks to keep it on par with the other titles.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

The Atmos track in this film gets going even before the movie during the “Bad Robot” logo sequence. This leads into a first chapter that is laden with aural movement as Kirk evades tribesmen though alien brush. The subsonic rumble of an erupting volcano might just cause anything wall mounted to reconsider its existence. The scene concludes with the Enterprise rising from its submerged hiding place in a dramatic display. Here the Atmos mix really starts to engage utilizing the height channels extensively as the ship flies overhead with dripping water while Spock’s encounter with lava plumes envelop you from all angles – and that’s just the beginning. The remainder of the film is filled with brilliant action sequences that might leave you needing a Dramamine.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

One of the most visually compelling films of 2017, Luc Besson’s Valerian also contains an exquisite soundtrack. After the opening sequence supported by David Bowie, the audience is brought to a paradise world with beautiful aliens and landscapes. This luscious environmental tonality gives way to explosions from above where the collateral damage from an unrelated space war causes the destruction of the planet. Later, one of my favorite moments comes when Laureline must insert her head within a cortex jellyfish to take advantage of its psychic abilities. This results in a sublimely spacious Atmos immersion with voices and effects swirling about. Throughout the rest of the film there is a virtuosic treatment of the audio and music that elevates the film beyond what the banal acting and rather superficial script might have had you believe.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

This is the second film in the much maligned franchise that adapted a beloved 80’s cartoon pastime into an overly complex and mechanically irrational live action movie where the robots frequently are better actors than the humans. Yet, it’s an amazing example where style over substance actually works in its favor. How none of these films have won an Academy Award for Sound Editing is beyond me because they sound GREAT. The opening of Revenge of the Fallen is one of our favorite demo moments because of its engaging mix of surround activity and impressive bass extension. Right off the top, there is an awesome bass dip that will really stretch your sub and sets the stage for the rest of the movie that is a quintessential audio rollercoaster. The mix exploits every aspect of your system and while the audio intensity may border on the perverse, it is nonetheless an outstanding example of film sound at its finest.

Oblivion

While much of the film is taken up with less strident dialogue, the entire film is coated with a lush atmosphere that allows the viewer to soak into its world. Between the bubbleship, drones and the weather, the soundtrack is littered with movement from the LFE channel to the overheads. But unlike some others on this list that whose sound fields can become dense and approach incomprehensibility, Oblivion has a lot of subtlety and space in which it articulates its immersive effects. From an abandoned ballroom where Jack searches for a missing drone with reverberant beeps emanating from all directions to a simple dinner scene that has possibly the best rainfall effect Atmos has yet to produce, this film executes on every level.

Mankind Pharma pulls out controversial Navratri-themed ad campaign featuring Sunny Leone

The Navratri-themed promotional hoarding of Manforce condoms, featuring Sunny Leone, across Gujarat has led to a lot of brouhaha. The hoardings with the message ‘Aa Navratriey Ramo, Parantu Prem Thhi’ (This Navratri, play but with love) were aimed at encouraging youths to use condoms, manufactured by Mankind Pharma, during the festival. However, it didn’t go down well with majority of the people and protests erupted over it in Surat.

And now, Mankind Pharma has pulled down close almost 500 of these controversial hoardings. This was done after a traders’ body, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), protested sharply against the message in the ad. This traders’ body has even written to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani and urged that celebrities who endorse brands should be made accountable for advertisements featuring them.

CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said that Navratri is a festival that celebrates the strength of a woman. It’s shocking that a brand time its condom commercial around the festival.

Meanwhile, National Medicos Organisation (NMO), which is affiliated to RSS, had called for a boycott of Mankind Pharma’s medicines and other products. They asked the 5,000 doctors affiliated to them that they should not prescribe the medicines of Mankind Pharma. NMO chief Dr Prakash Kurmi said that Mankind’s medicines are cheaper and its field officers share a good relationship with the doctors. But with the Navratri ad, they have crossed their limits and since they hurt the religious sentiments, the NMO has boycotted their products.

After withdrawing the controversial ad, Mankind Pharma tweeted, “Navratri hoardings campaign was not meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments and was immediately withdrawn. We deeply regret any such incident”. Now that they have pulled down the hoardings as well, looks like it will be the end of all controversies for this pharma brand.

One thing holds true about buying a home in Los Angeles: You never know when you’re going to see it pop up on the screen.

Thousands of films and TV shows have been shot in Southern California—and filming locations aren’t always lavish Beverly Hills mansions. Many are all-American family homes such as this Tujunga property where the late ’80s teen drama “River’s Edge” was filmed. The home that stood in as the family house of Keanu Reeves‘ character in the movie is currently on the market for $740,000.

The current residents owned the house in 1986, when the film was released. They saw a young Reeves, in his early 20s, portraying a troubled teen involved in a murder committed by a friend. Based on a true story, the “Most Polarizing Teen Film” also starred Ione Skye, Dennis Hopper, and scene-stealer Crispin Glover.

But they’re not the only movie stars who have spent time in the four-bedroom,1,698-square-foot house. Listing agent Deanna Medina of JohnHart Real Estate told us the late Paul Walker grew up just down the street and worked for his family’s septic tank pumping service. Walker was at this home pumping out the septic tank on several occasions.

The pedigree is interesting, but it pales as a selling point to the home’s extraordinary location. The property backs right up to the Los Angeles National Forest. No one can build above it.

As a result, there are miles of hiking trails and wilderness right out the back door. “It’s quite a special home,” says Medina. “It’s quiet, relaxing, and serene, yet you’re just minutes away from all the conveniences of the city.”

The backyard borders the Los Angeles National Forest.

The homeowners have completed a number of recent upgrades, including in the kitchen with all-new granite countertops, a tile backsplash, stylish cabinets, an island with a sink, and stainless-steel appliances. Windows and doors are new as well.

The interior spaces are gorgeous, but the exterior is the true standout. Newly built decks and a wood patio look out over unblemished nature, and the backyard is dominated by what’s rumored to be a 200-year-old oak tree, which is perfect for hanging hammocks or providing shade.

“When you look out the window, you really feel like you could be in Tuscany,” says Medina. “And yet it’s not far from the city.”

The gorgeous views make the home a candidate for another brush with cinematic fame.

The childhood home of everybody’s favorite intergalactic delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, is on the market in Brooklyn, NY, for $2.2 million.

In reality, the seven-bedroom, three-bath house was where “Futurama” writer and producer Eric Kaplan grew up. In the 2001 episode “The Luck of the Fryrish,” Fry, Turanga Leela, and Bender travel underground to Old New York to track down the house, in search of a seven-leaf clover that Fry is convinced will turn his luck around in the year 3002.

“Holy Camoly! The house I grew up in, it’s still there,” Fry says, standing in front of a dilapidated two-story, with a collapsing roof, broken windows, and a toilet sitting on the front lawn.

Philip J. Fry’s childhood home

realtor.com

“Man, Father Time really took a bat to this place,” Bender says. The camera pans out to the punchline—revealing that the house looked exactly the same as when Fry was a child.

The show’s animators really nailed the home’s exterior, including the columns on the front porch, the orientation of the front steps, the angles of the roofline, the four bushes in the front yard, and even the rectangular stained-glass window above the staircase.

The childhood home of the writer and producer of “Futurama”

realtor.com

The house appears in the show just once, for a few seconds at that, and is the perfect Matt Groening-esque Easter egg—an inside joke that the show’s creators would find hilarious, but would take the fans years to figure out.

The real estate blog Bklyner unraveled the mystery in late 2012 (more than a decade after the episode first aired) after asking readers to help it track down the house.

Reporters there guessed that it must be a real house, given the episode’s other incredibly specific clues: The trio take the B train to Brooklyn’s Newkirk Avenue stop (which was renamed Newkirk Plaza 10 years after the episode aired), and later walk to Prospect Park, a little over a mile away from Kaplan’s childhood home.

Built in 1905, the house doesn’t appear to have changed much since Kaplan lived there in the 1970s. Double doors open to a mosaic-tiled entryway, with a second door to the home’s foyer—a must during the cold Northeastern winters. There’s intricate parquet flooring in the foyer, and original woodwork on the ground floor.

Foyer

realtor.com

The kitchen looks like it was renovated at some point in Kaplan’s childhood, and there’s funky, ’70s-era floral wallpaper in one of the home’s three bathrooms. Otherwise, the home’s walls are painted a stark, modern white. It wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine how beautiful the house will be once it’s renovated by new owners.

Kaplan certainly believes the house has staying potential—in his fictional animated world, it survives for at least the next 1,000 years.

Shut up and take our money!

EDM Twitter somewhat erupted yesterday in response to Calvin Harris’ uncharacteristic “nazi” tweet. Followers were divided between calling people overly sensitive or simply reacting to the out-of-character outburst, but everyone made a point to react to it one way or another.

Harris followed up the tweet later in the day, stating, “Hi I didn’t say dubstep was shit I was addressing one abusive guy NOT an entire genre thanks.” That doesn’t make it any better to say in the first place, but at least we know that he doesn’t hate dubstep? (Cue eye roll.)

Oh la la. This week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com® is a très chic property on Long Island modeled after Versailles and Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte in France, now listed for $60 million.

The stunning Maison Des Jardins looks like an old-world castle, but it was completed only last year. According to news reports, the owner—entrepreneur Raphael Yakoby—bought 8.38 acres in Old Brookville, NY, in 2010 for $3.25 million. Yakoby, a lover of all things French, commenced construction of the chateau-inspired structure two years later.

Yakoby worked with architects Michael J. Wallin and Douglas R. Schneider. Press materials note the project represents the owner’s “lifelong dream, brought to fruition by a team of architects, contractors and craftsman.” Every facet of the design uses traditional building materials and methods. No laminate floors here!

If you’re wondering how you would begin to decorate this Versailles on Long Island, you don’t have to. The home comes fully furnished. Listing agent Eloise Halpern of Douglas Elliman says the opulent decor features “$2.5M worth of lighting fixtures (Baccarat, Schonbek & Straus), the magnificent draperies and furniture (Stark & Scalamandre) … 19th-century marble fireplaces, spectacular Italian marble slabs, Christopher Peacock kitchen, character/rustic wood flooring in marvelous patterns, outdoor limestone loggia, extensive formal gardens and more.”

Halpern and Patricia Bischoff represent the property.

The 22,000-square-foot property has eight beds, 10 bathrooms, and five half-baths. It features multiple 19th-century marble fireplaces and the “highest-end everything,” according to the listing. The property is entered through 22-foot-high iron gates flanked by limestone piers that open to a quarter-mile drive planted with pear trees.

The wrought-iron details on the front door are a nod to Versailles. Construction details include a soft limestone facade, intricate ironwork, a Vermont slate roof, and geothermal heat. All the moldings are plaster and, due to size, some had to be created on-site.

Italian marble covers the floors. The stairway in the foyer was inspired the one at Le Petit Trianon at Versailles. Other luxe amenities include a movie theater, wine room, billiard room, and fitness center. The master suite includes dual bathrooms, a dressing room, and a 500-square-foot office.

The main level holds the public rooms, including formal living and dining rooms. Off the main ballroom is a covered loggia, which leads to the gardens and pool. The property also features an elevator, guest quarters, staff quarters, parking, and a garage.

Quietly shopped around for $100 million last summer before it was finished, the home is being offered officially now.

The Palace of Versailles has remained an inspiration to opulent home builders since it was transformed from hunting lodge to royal residence in the 17th century, notes the Wall Street Journal. (Remember the “Queen of Versailles“?)

But the North Shore of Long Island, known as the Gold Coast for its extreme wealth and vast estates, has a mythology of its own. The mansion-filled area is the site of the fictional estate in “The Great Gatsby.”

Now, it’s the home of the real-life Maison Des Jardins.

REVEALED: Kriti Kharbanda is the leading lady in Yamla Pagla Deewana

Kriti Kharbanda, who made her debut with the Bhatt film Raaz Reboot, is now all set to share screen space with the iconic veteran star Dharmendra. The actress has been roped in for the Deols starrer comic caper Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, the third instalment in the franchise.

Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, which went on floor recently, marks the Bollywood directorial debut of Punjabi writer Navaniat Singh. Talking about having Kriti Kharbanda on board, we hear that the actress aced the audition and the makers were more than happy to have a fresh face on board. In fact Kriti, who will return to India after wrapping up with work commitments in Colombo, will start shooting for a romantic number and a full blown party track for the film.

While Kriti Kharbanda is associated with the franchise for the first time, earlier, the other instalments featured actresses like Kulraj Randhawa, Neha Sharma as the leading ladies. However, Dharmendra and his actor sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol continue to be a part of these comedy films.

Bobby Deol and Dharmendra have already started shooting for the film and even shared pictures from the sets of the film. However, the duo has been missing their third partner in crime, Sunny Deol aka Pagla who will soon join them on the sets.

Besides this film, Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol will be coming together in Shreyas Talpade’s directorial Poshter Boyz.
