The sunflower is the national flower of the Ukraine. How I hope the Ukraine can prevail in this terrible atrocity.

Komm her Marie ein letztes Glas.

Somebody affixed a label on the Euro sign in front of the former ECB headquarter stating "Ukraine - tomorrow in Europe/EU and in the Euro". While I understand the notion, this populist wish with its urgency neglects all political necessities on the way to a united Europe. There are other better ways to support Ukraine in fighting back the Russian invasion.

Second image I post of a mural with a dove of peace and a laurel branch in the colours of Ukraine. It was painted by the artist Justus Becker and is situated on an old house remaining on a building site in the city center of Frankfurt.

I was working on this for Smile on Saturday's theme "flag unflagged" but thought it might be a bit too processed for that group. Also, I really liked the red, white, and blue shot I did post to the group. And I thought it was especially suited for the theme - kind of echoing the US flag's stripes and the flares mimicking stars. I do like this image too, though, and it will be fine for Sliders Sunday. Slava Ukraini!
This started as a close-up shot of a large group of orange, white, and black balloons attached to a screen to serve as a background for people's selfies at a graduation party.
Support for Ukraine
I captured this image of a soybean field last fall in Knox County. I used the Skylum Luminar Neo software program to edit and filter the golden brown soybeans to yellow and deepen the blue of the sky. The Skylum company and team is based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Many on their team have remained in Ukraine and are working and sheltering. We have chosen to support Ukraine through Save the Children.

Lying, dishonesty and political manipulation are nothing new. In the age of digital mass communication, however, these machinations have become endemic. The war in Ukraine is also a war of mis/information and this war is going on daily across all our media. Some of us may feel helpless when it comes to separating truth from falsehood. But we are not that helpless. Whenever we are confronted with a political message, we can ask one basic question: who is talking and what question is being asked (and, usually) answered? This will help to detect the “agenda” of the message, identify its argument and understand the claim that has been made. If we wish to go deeper into the analysis, we can try to identify also the underlying assumptions of the message, check the evidence that has been quoted and see whether or not the message makes sense. We are not that helpless. We can be skeptical and make distinctions. We can reject what is false and keep what is true.
The war continues. Ukrainians bravely continue to defend their sovereign country.
The colours belie the current atrocities Ukraine is facing, but their courage and brilliance in fighting their tormenting aggressors is remarkable.
Let's hope and pray they can remain an independent, self-determining nation--and support them in every way we can.

Here’s roughly what the process of collecting salt from a dried-up lake looks like: a man in rubber boots walks onto the site (because beneath the layer of salt there’s usually a layer of stinky muck that you can sink into), then he uses a special rake to gather the salt into small piles. After that, he collects it into a sack.

The cathedral was built in the second half of XIX century in Neo-Byzantine style and dedicated to the prince of Kievan Rus who converted the country to Orthodox Christianity. Several cathedrals and churches dedicated to St. Vladimir were built in the Russian Empire to mark 900 years of St. Vladimir's baptism, with the main event of the countrywide celebration in 1888 taking place in Kyiv; unfortunately, the cathedral was not quite finished and was officially consecrated 8 years later.

We ate brunch in Chicago's Ukraine Village where many crowded the shops preparing for Easter and praying for a peace that protects their relatives from violence and invasion.
