I decided to go with Ubuntu Studio on the more powerful of the two workstations, in hopes that I can learn a lot more about the open source audio and video production alternatives to software I'm familiar with on my Mac and Windows 7 machines. So far, JackRack + Patchage + Ardour looks like it might be a clear winner that could maybe compete with GarageBand. I went for the high-performance, low-latency kernel option during install.
I'm also secretly hoping if I learn this well enough, I can teach my dad and convince him away from his Windows software for his own music production. We'll see about that.

I love impress. Of all of the OOo applications, this is the one I end up using the most. It has every single major feature PowerPoint has (well, the sound department could use some work), and I have the Presenter Console/Presentation Minimizer extensions pre-installed.
High quality,High Definition,Highly Desireable, Ubuntu, Linux, Wallpapers, collected by me over the years from many (open) sources. All Widescreen , mostly 1680x1050 Enjoy them as much as i have.
It's "flight 6" of 6.06, running with the SMP-Kernel and sometimes it just freezes after some 10 minutes. But this is most likely because something is wrong with one of the processors as it happende also under OS X, but not with the single-CPU-Kernel. I might change back to this one sometime soon.

This distro's done such a good job at networking (including wireless) that if it starts complaining about 'eht0' not being active, then check your hardware I tell ya, cuz it ain't OS related.
Proof: I had to dissect Carol, and apparently the pcmcia wasn't locked to the board properly (manhandled too many times). The fix? Push really really hard on one corner, and eth0 was up and ACTIVE!
