Ubuntu decided to work today. This is the 5.04 PowerPC LiveCD running on a 12" Powerbook G4. It's pretty snappy when running natively on a PPC. Though i'm unlikely to ever install it on a Mac.
For a first impression of a Linux LiveCD it is good. Sure it's a little slower to load than a native install, and there are a few restrictions, but once all the setup screens are out of the way and Gnome is loaded, it really does work.
Ubutu is a nice little Distro too, simple to set up and a very easy to use system. Plus it's Windows networking support is brilliant.

My best attempt at making ubuntu sexy. I'm still a little unhappy with the theme because of the ugly circles it puts around the minimize/close buttons on the windows, but it still looks nice :3

wallpaper is devart, can't remember where
This is what my Ubuntu environment looks like at the moment :-)
The wallpaper is from gnome-look.org and the dock is the famous Avant Window Navigator (AWN) dock.
My Dapper Drake Ubuntu Desktop. Nothing really fancy, using the normal Human Theme with the alternate wallpaper, except that I made the toolbar transparent and added desklets.

It was a thrill to see this operating system installing. We had been planning and trying for a while, but finally we succeeded installing Ubuntu at work.
It is a spare computer, so it is great to experiment with it. Since we are a radio station, we will try to install an audio editor as well.

Almost 4 hour battery life, and Ubuntu works extremely well on this older Pentium III, 1 Ghz, 768 MB RAM, 80 GB 5200 RPM HD.
There's Firefox 1.5 and FreeCell running under Ubuntu 6.06.1 on an old 700 MHz G3 iBook (mid-2002 revision). It runs pretty smoothly except for the occasional lockup and a lack of wireless support.
Im really starting to enjoy using linux, namely because of the ease of finding and installing software, as well as connecting to other computers (like my workspace at school). I highly recommend trying it out, theres live cds and everything to be found on the ubuntu website.
Lots of geeks know ubuntu as a linux distribution, but how many know that the name ubuntu come from "a sub-Saharan African ethic or ideology focusing on people's allegiances and relations with each other"?
I've chosen this pretty name for my avatar on Second Life and it's funny to have the opportunity to teach that to people who recognize the name of the distribution :)
