Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty five metres at 12:18pm on Tuesday April 18th 2017, of the Colosseo, (Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre and Colosseum), Rome, Italy. It is situated in Regio IV Templum pacis (Temple of peace).

This view is taken from Collis Palatium (Palatine Hill), close to Orti Farnesiani sul Palatino (Gardens of Farnese upon the Palatine). Created in 1550 on the Northern section of Palatine Hill by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, these were the first botanical gardens privately owned in Europe.

The Colosseo was built of concrete and sand, the largest amphitheatre ever built with construction commencing in AD 72 under Emperor Vespasian and completion in AD 80 under his successor Titus. The Colisseum could hold up to 80,000 spectators and was home to gladiatorial contests, slave executions, public spectacles and later, animal hunts and re-enactments of battles and drames using lifts and mechanisms to hoist scenery and animals onto the stage.

The Colisseum ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era and went on toi be used for housing, a quarry, workshops, a fortress and a Christian shrine. A massive earthquake in 1349 destroyed the outer southern wall, followed by neglect, and theft of metalwork and stones over the years. There have been many calls to demolish the Colisseum, and even plans to turn the structure into a hotel, but nowadays the building is protected and revered as one of the most iconic landmarks in Rome with a fascinating history, and a link to a worldwide call for the banishment of capital punishment.

An adult entry fee in April 2017 is twelve Euros, which allows a two day pass into the Colosseum and nearby Palatine Hill.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seven metres, in the magic of the Golden hour around sunrise, (Sunrise was at precisely 06:58am), at 06:56am on Sunday 21st September 2014 off 1st Street between Beacon Avenue and Bevan Avenue, above the shoreline in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Here, we are looking over towards Mt Baker in Washington State, USA from beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Also known as Koma Kulshan, (pronounced kō-ō’mah’ kool-shän’),she is an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington State in the United States, standing 3,286 metres tall and was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.

The name Mount Baker first appeared in print in Captain Vancouver’s 1798 narrative of his voyage around Vancouver Island. Legend has it that his third-lieutenant, Joseph Baker, was the first to spot the mountain while they sailed into Dungeness Bay on April 30th, 1792. Also known by the Lummi as Kwud-Shad, and Koba (meaning 'high mountain always covered with snow', was the Skagit name.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Sixteen metres at 09:27am following a South eastern Network train from Bexleyheath to London Bridge station at 07:53am on Tuesday 13th April 2021, off Bankside Beach on London's South Bank, looking back over The Millennium Bridge, officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge, which was designed by Norman Foster, and was constructed between 1996 and 2000.

It is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, linking Bankside with the City of London. I affectionately call the Bridge, 'The wibbly-wobbly bridge', after somewhat embarrassing teething problems which had the old girl flexing in her moorings when first opened.

This view looks towards some of London's iconic buildings including the Walkie talkie and the Cheese grater.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Thirty metres at 10:04am on Thursday 23rd August 2018, off Quai d'Orsay on the River Seine, beside Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris, France.

Pont Alexandre III is a nineteenth century deck arched bridge with Beaux arts style, named after a Russian Czar, which connects the Champs-Elysees quarter with the Invalides and Eiffel tower quarters. It is regarded as the most ornate of the bridges in Paris, work having commenced in October 1896 after tzar Alexander III had concluded the Franco-Russian alliance seven years earlier. Guilded bronze statues of Fames (sciences, commerce, arts and Charlemagne), restraining Pegasus stand on 17 metre high masonary socles with nymphs on the central arches.

Totem poles are known as ᒥᐢᑎᑯᐦᑳᐣ mistikohkân in Cree and Gyáa'aang in Haida Gwaii, derived from the Algonquian word odoodem [oˈtuːtɛm] meaning "(his) kinship group". They are poles, posts and pillars often made from Western Red cedar wood into which are carved or hung symbols or figures, by Tlingit, Tsimshian, Kwakwaka'wakw and Nuu-chah-nulth and northern Northwest Coast Haida Gwaii First Nations and indigenous peoples.

The carvings commemorate cultural beliefs and ancestry, legends and events and are unique to each clan or group.

Here we look out towards Moresby Passage and Coal Island, Moresby Island and Portland Island.

'' The beauty of a sunrise and sunset demands nothing of us. Taking the time to view one requires little though ''

I wanted to do a short series of photographs that represent in different ways my most important and successful images from my time here on FLICKR and also with GETTY IMAGES, who are my worldwide agents. These photographs might be in the selections for a number of reasons, but each has played a significant part in my photographic journey and represent personal memories, some not having been seen for a while.

(14) DUSK OVER THE S SAANICH PENINSULA IN BC, CANADA

My first loves in photography have always been Landscapes, wildlife and the beauty of Mother Nature, and in the landscapes category, photographing in the magic of the Golden hour has always been a passion of mine. With the light constantly changing the discipline of quickly adapting your settings and fighting both time and the elements makes you work differently with a steep learning curve in which 'mess ups' are commonplace. But I truly believe not frame is a wasted frame and that we learn from our mistakes and constantly strive to push ourselves to be better.

On this occasion I was out in my Brother in law's Truck, on a sunrise shoot along the shoreline. It was so dark with just the merest hint of light coming in on the horizon and revealing the Southern Gulf Islands. I pulled in at a viewing point and set up my camera and tripod. I had my trusty Nikon D700, a fabulous camera that could resolve great low light detail in this case teamed up with one of Nikon's Holy trinity of lenses, the marvellous Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED IF (pre-VR first model) which again could capture incredible low light details.

The scene was set as I tried to focus on the patch of light barely visible and wide open at f/2.8 I could manage a shutter speed of one fifth of a second. The image that came back on my screen was amazing, the Nikons had managed to 'see' a whole bunch of details that my eyes just could not. The light was changing quickly and just then a roaring thunderous Harley Davidson motorcycle pull in next to me with a rider who closely resembled Billy Gibbons of the band ZZ Top. As I fired off my last few shots, the two hundred and fifty pound, heavily tattooed and bearded rider grabbed a metal coffee mug from his panniers and came over and stood next to me. There was silence for a while and the smell of the coffee danced across the air, and he sighed and said quite simply in a satisfactorily deep, rumbling voice 'Beautiful isn't it'.

I agreed. More seconds passed and he remounted his iron horse, fired the beast into life and headed slowly down the road as the daylight broke.

Memories of moments a decade past that still live with me. I stood and watched the light come before packing up and driving home, buzzing with excitement, a love affair with my D700 blooming. Priceless. This is a personal favourite of mine and was published by Shutterstock and sold and also selected for Flickr Explore in February 2019, becoming my 117th photograph explored. A version of it was published by Getty Images in 2021 and has sold, it has also appeared online in various magazines.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.

On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. (ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably).

With visits now in excess of 17.747 Million to my FLICKR site, used primarily these days as a fun platform to reach friends and family as I have now sold my professional gear and now take a more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to FLICKR, GETTY IMAGES and everyone who drops by.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Thirty seven metres at 12:15pm on Wednesday 22nd August 2018, off Place Joffre and Avenue Emile Acollas, in the grounds of Champ de Mars, looking towards the Tour Eiffel located at Champ de Mars, 5 Avenue Anatole France, 75007 in Paris, France.

The Champ de Mars (Field of Mars), is a large park located in the Seventh arrondissement between the Eiffel Tower to the Northwest and Ecole Militaire to the Southeast. It was named after Campus Martius in Rome, Italy. It originally measured 42 hectares, but was reduced by architect Jeran-Camille Fromige for the 1890 World Exposition.

The Eiffel Tower was originally designed by Gustave Eiffel and constructed between 1887-1889 as the entrance to the worlds fair in that year. It is now the worlds most visited paid monument, standing 324 metres tall (1,063ft) with three floors and eight lifts and was the tallest building in the world from 1889 to 1930.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Twelve metres, at 08:35am on Monday 28th December 2015, on a beautifully warm and sunny morning off Birdcage Walk and Horse Guards Road in the grounds of St James's Park. Situated in the City Of Westminster, Central London. The Park spans twenty three Hectares and is the oldest of the Royal Parks of London, with a variety of visiting and nesting birds that include Ducks, Canada Geese and Pelicans.

Here, we look towards Westminster Abbey, formerly the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster, a gothic Abbey just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. Formerly also a cathedral and Abbey, the building is nowadays designated status of Church of England "Royal Peculiar", a church responsible directly to the Sovereign.

The original church was first constructed in the 7th century, and the present church began construction in 1245 on the orders of King Henry VIII. Coronations have been held here since 1066, and royal marriage ceremonies. The building is a Grade 1 listed building, and a Unesco world heritage site. Notable burials here include Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, William Wilberforce, William Pitt, Charles Dickens.

Photograph taken in the Golden hour around sunrise at an altitude of One hundred and ten metres at 07:11am on Thursday 26th March 2020, off Green Lane and Camer Park Lane, looking across a field of growing rapeseed in Meopham , Kent.

After weeks of self isolation due to the global pandemic that we know as COVID-19 Coronavirus, we are allowed to go out for exercise once per day and keep away from others. Today was Blkuebelle (my car's) MOT, something the government still allows, and so I headed out early and had the fortune of a beautiful sunrise... and Bluebelle passed it's MOT.

These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, a Nikon D850 FX Pro body as my trusted companion, I travel light with less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to GETTY IMAGES, and the 25.680+ Million visitors to my FLICKR site.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty four metres on a beautiful summers day, August 25th 2018 off Rue Auguste Comte and Boulevard Saint-Michel in the grounds of Le jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, France.

Situated in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, the twenty three hectare gardens were created in 1612 by Marie de' Medici, widow of King Henry IV of France. Year round these beautiful grounds offer free access to the public and they are enjoyed by local Parisiens and tourists alike who can find a place to sit on a plentiful array of metal and plastic chairs supplied by the local authorities and left liberally scattered around the grounds.

In this scene we see people walking around in the Jardin, and a mother taking a rest and reading a book beneath the shade of some trees whilst her young child catches some sleep sitting in it's pushchair.

'' Though my hair these days has lost all trace of colour, the spring in my step is all but gone and my memories are revisited most commonly by the stained bar room tables, I do recall that fateful day, or at least I've a mind to.

It was a bleak Springtime morning as I recall. Rain lay in the mud filled street fresh from old man Johnson's roof, given that he'd been up at the crack of dawn with his broom trying to clear the deluge left during the preceding night. A new day beckoned in our godforsaken backwater town, and me, no more than a young'un aged nine or ten, sneakin' by the grocery store with my friends Joey and Rob, scratchin' for tidbits, anything we could find or steal to entertain us for another day, none of us knew the whirlwind of change that approached on hooves and wooden majesty.

For this was no ordinary day in the life of Deadstone, a young and undistinguished history that amounted to no more than a hill of beans when you got right down to it. Plain folk, unassuming and coy, a sheriff more used to the bottom of a whiskey bottle and a night in the jailhouse than those he was supposed to be rounding up and bringing down the letter of the law upon.

Worn out ladies of dubious moral fortitude and second rate quick draw wanna-be's who talked big of bounties and past glory and yet who were strangely conspicuous by their leave if strangers ever appeared on horseback. This was no happening town ripe for development, this was a sleeper, an end of the line for some, a refuge for others, a place where a man could stay a while and forget his past, maybe take stock and plan for his next move.

And bless us all if to a man we had not noticed the trickle of gunmen for hire venturing here to rest a while over the last few weeks. Furtive eyes behind scarred flesh and withered souls, men with no morals, no gumption, nor remorse. Little did we know that those eyes continually looking Westward around sunrise each new day, they were waiting, they were watching.

We foolish young'uns would run with the incoming stagecoach as it hit our town, trying to catch a glimpse of who the new arrivals were, hitchin' a lift on the wooden steps, yelpin' and a whoopin' like a pack of hyenas, adding to the load that the poor overworked horses already endured. This day was different. This day was like none that had come before it. Within the wagon sat five men, one of them in the middle in some fancy black threads with a pair of Colts shining in the morning light. Eyes of black and a stare that pierced a man's soul as he fixed them upon you.

There were guns a plenty inside that coach, ambition too. This was the day that Frank Bailey came to town, and me and the boys knew right then that our lives would never again be the same.....''

This photograph was taken at 13:16pm on Thursday 19th May 2016 at Barkerville historic town and park, Northern British Columbia, Canada, which features over 125 heritage buildings dating back to the 1860's and named after William 'Billy' Barker, who was one of the first successful Gold diggers of the era. It was declared a National Heritage site of Canada in 1924 and a Provincial Heritage property in 1958, now attracting around 60,000 visitors a year.

This horse was one of six used to pull a stage coach around and through the town (I took a ride for $8 and loved every second), formerly founded by Francis Jones Barnard for his B X Express freighting company which was the main cartage and passenger service on the Cariboo wagon road.

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and sixteen metres at 06:30pm on Monday 25th May 2015 off the A87 heading back from Storr, and a meeting with 'The old man of Storr', to Broadford on The Isle of Skye where I stayed at the wonderful Scalpay View B&B run by John Corfield and his wife.

I stopped several times on the side of the road and traversed some wet and boggy undergrowth to capture shots from here which looked onwards towards , Sgurr nan Gillean, Bruach na Frithe, Sgurr Dearg, and Sgurr Alasdair, with Loch Sligachan over and to our left a wee bit further on.

ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.

These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, a Nikon D850 FX Pro body as my trusted companion, I travel light with less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to GETTY IMAGES, and the 24.249+ Million visitors to my FLICKR site.

A location where so often a thin veil of beautiful mist can be found, carressing the open meadow just ahead of the old Eynsford Viaduct. I often see a lone and very large old Badger walking around here, and love the quiet contemplative time this area offers me.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Nine metres, in the magic of the Golden hour around sunrise at 05:41am, (sunrise was at precisely 06.15am) on Saturday 6th September 2014 off the Patricia Bay Highway 17, on Lochside Drive close to Frost Avenue and the Lochside Waterfront Park, in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Here, I am standing beside the wooden decked viewing platform, looking over towards Mt Baker in Washington State, USA from beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Also known as Koma Kulshan, she is an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington State in the United States, standing 3,286 metres tall and was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.

These Canada Geese, along with many other small groups, fly across the lake from East to West every morning and back again every evening at Sunset, and I love to watch the classic Vee formations and listen to the honking as they pass me by. In flight, a group of Geese are called, a Skein.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty four metres, at 13:35pm on Wednesday 29th September 2021, off Cheapside and St Paul's Churchyard, beneath the gilded Paul's Cross Memorial Statue in the grounds of St Paul's Cathedral.

Paul’s Cross was an open-air pulpit that from the earliest times was traditionally seen as the place for the discussion of public news and orders. In 1259, it was here that King Henry III called for a general assembly to be made where certain Londoners were gathered at the Cross to swear their allegiance to Henry

The Cathedral was designed by architects Sir Christopher Wren and Lorenzo Gafa, with construction commencing in 1675 and the official opening in 1708. It stands One hundred and eleven metres tall and is a Church of England cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of London and Mother Church of the Diocese of London, It sits at the top of Ludgate Hill, the highest point in the City of London and was the tallest building in London from 1710 to 1962. The first mention of a Christian building on this site was in 604, when a monastery was built here and dedicated to St. Paul. The current building was built after the Great Fire of London in 1666 destroyed the old cathedral

A Southeastern Network train (Soon to be stripped of their position and replaced by government ownership due to fraud), from Bexleyheath to London Bridge Station at 11:00am this morning on a beautiful cold late September day and the nice walk back along the South Bank towards Charring Cross Station, mingling with the locals and tourists alike in this wonderful city.

Photograph taken at 16:32pm an altitude of One Thousand, eight hundred and fifty metrres on Monday 15th September 2014 at the head of the Whiskey Jack Trail beside the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler mountain, in the Fitzsimmons Range of the Pacific ranges of coastal mountains on the Northwestern edge of Garibaldi Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada.

The mountain stands Two thousand, one hundred and eighty one metres tall and is approximately One hundred million years old. I stayed for three days at the Whistler Blackcomb resort at The Crystal Lodge in the village, and could not wait to visit both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains via thye world famous Peak 3 Peak Gondola.

The peak 2 peak gondola at Whistler Blackcomb took two years to construct, connecting the alpine of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains and spaning 4.4km in length. The ride time takes Eleven minutes with one cabin, capable of seating Twenty eight people, departing every Forty nine seconds. The Gondola runs on an 8,850 metre long, 56 millimetre thick centre haul rope, with two 56 millimetre outer track ropes to support the weight and has a maximum speed of 7.5 metres per second.

The Gondola system holds three world records for longest unsupported span, highest lift of it's kind and the world's lonmgest continuous lift system. A two day adult pass, allowing you to travel twice on the peak 2 peak gondala and as many times as you wish on the smaller additional chair lifts at either mountain, costs just $62 (a single day pass is ten dollars less). To reach the summit of Whistler mountain also required an additional open ski chair lift ride which was totally awesome.

With visits now in excess of 18.162 Million to my FLICKR site, used primarily these days as a fun platform to reach friends and family as I have now sold my professional gear and now take a more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to FLICKR, GETTY IMAGES and everyone who drops by.

These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, and having moved from professional Nikon equipment to consumer bodies and lenses, I travel light less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to GETTY IMAGES, and the 21.861+ Million visitors to my FLICKR site.
