My many trips to Kansas City since 2007 had been during the winter or early spring, so I had never seen water in the many fountains of the ‘City of Fountains’ for the most part and in my visits to the Liberty Memorial I had never seen any water in the Liberty Memorial Fountain located just south of the entrance to the National World War I Museum. I finally got to see and hear water in that fountain and was able to capture this image at dusk. The three tiered fountain is made of black granite and Indiana limestone designed by ASAI Architects. New York City building lights go the extra mile as LED lighting has become very commonplace by using on classic architecture like the historic & classic James A. Farley Post Office Building on 33rd Street & Ninth Avenue in Manhattan across from Madison Square Garden to celebrate Pride Month. The design of famous architectural firm of McKim, Mead & White opened in 1912 and was once New York City’s main post office across from Grand Pennsylvania Station. The split vane or bucket of a large 15-ton 12 foot Pelton Wheel outside of the Nevada City California Ott’s Assay Office in Robinson Plaza donated to Nevada City by PG&E that was in use from 1928-1987 at Drum Powerhouse #4. The Pelton Wheel was developed in Camptonville California by Millwright Lester A. Pelton in 1877 who tapped into the technology that innovative miners had designed to concentrate a strong stream of water to disrupt gravel and dirt referred to as hydraulic mining. Pelton split bucket where which is what I’ve captured in this image, allowed tapping the vast waterpower of the mountains of the Sierra Nevada’s to power using kinetic energy & power to drive machinery such as rock crushers, stamp mills, hoists & compressors prior to electricity being available. Pelton split bucket design was 90% efficient and like this wheel was used to generate electricity once that became the major source of energy. Spanning Alsea Bay at the mouth of the Alsea River in Oregon is the Alsea Bay Bridge, a concrete arch bridge in Waldport Oregon that is part of Highway 101 or the Pacific Coast Highway. This current bridge was built between 1988 & 1991, opening in 1991 after the original bridge built in the 1930’s was deemed structurally unsound. The Tower Bridge connecting Sacramento to West Sacramento over the Sacramento River is one of the loveliest and colorful vertical lift bridges that I’ve seen. Most are bridges of this type built during President Roosevelt’s New Deal initiative post-depression in the 1930’s are black or a drab green but the Tower Bridge build in 1934 is beautiful gold yellow color that representative of the area the California State Capitol is located, in the gold rush area. It is a symbol and icon of Sacramento, a unique design of architect Alfred Eichler, who proposed his vision to the bridge engineers. The Delaware River from our southbound raft taken on my Olympus TG-4 all weather, as we gently floated down the river. It was one of the last times the family did the annual rafting trips down the Delaware River. The Delaware River runs through 5 states including its namesake. Famous as north of Trenton, General George Washington and his troops crossed and surprised the Brit’s Hessian mercenaries during the American Revolutionary War, south of where this image was taken. Poulsbo Washington was settled by a Norwegian in the 1880’s and then became a destination landing spot for Scandinavian immigrants since, referred to as little Norway, it is a charming little town with a delightful downtown with much Norwegian influence. It was named Poulsbo after a Norwegian village of the same name as the Olympic mountain range and the Puget Sound reminded the settlers of the fjords of Norway. A beautifully restored 1917 Ford Model T delivery truck on California Highway 49 works as a sign for the Goodyears Bar Schoolhouse Museum in Goodyears Bar California, a small unincorporated community by the North Yuba River just outside of Downieville. That day it was also adorned with signage of the nuptials of my damsel’s niece and her beau which we were attending. The 1917 Ford Model T with a C cab body with the vintage Coca Cola signage restored, featuring wooden spoked rims, a wooden cab body is very significant as Ford’s Model T was the first mass produced car starting in 1908 in the United States.
