They come with their books, their shades, the look but no one ever looks up, the world passes on a gorgeous day what was missed on the university walk.
The 'new' University station is quite a grand affair, reflecting maybe its status as one of the busiest stations in the West Midlands area, where it had it had a throughput of just under 4 million passengers in the year prior to the pandemic. It serves both the University of Birmingham and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The spacious building reflects the present and anticipated future increase in passenger usage. On 8th March 2024, West Midlands Trains CAF-built Class 196 No. 196112 draws into the station while forming service 1V26 1150 Birmingham New Street - Hereford. When HST sets started to appear on north to west express services I tended to photograph them in a more artistic way (if I bothered at all), they displaced Peaks and Brush 4's, they were considered just a glorified dmu and unworthy of serious photography.
This is a lunch time session a few yards up from University station, it was a pleasant day and the catkins were out and this HST turned up from the Bristol direction, worth a frame...

Direct Rail Services Class 68 68022 "Resolution" cruises through University with the 08:29 Swindon to Scarborough "York Moors Explorer". It was good to see an almost entirely BR blue and grey formation of loco hauled stock on a route that doesn't see much of it, this rake consisting mainly of Mark 2s with a Mark 1 kitchen vehicle. However, there was a single Anglia Mk 2 towards the end of the train.
