King Borommarache I probably couldn't have imagined this either when he commissioned this temple in 1374 in the city center of the then-young Ayutthaya, which would later be called Wat Mahathat
But now, almost 700 years later, a lot has changed. And now, stately trees grow here between the once sacred but now destroyed walls.
Incidentally, the successor of the aforementioned king, Ramathibodi I, served as a monk in this temple when he wasn't busy performing his royal duties. I believe this provides a good foundation for a good and just reign.
Das hatte sich König Borommarache I. wahrscheinlich auch nicht vorstellen können, als er 1374 im Stadtzentrum vom damals noch jungen Ayutthaya diesen Tempel in Auftrag gab, der später den Namen Wat Mahathat tragen würde.
Doch nun, knapp 700 Jahre später, hat sich so einiges verändert. Und nun wachsen hier stattliche Bäume zwischen den ehemals heiligen doch nun zerstörten Mauen.
Der Nachfolger des o.g. Königs, Ramathibodi I. diente übrigens, wenn er nicht gerade seinen königlichen Pflichten nachging, in diesem Tempel als Mönch. Ich glaube, dass dies eine gute Basis für eine gute und gerechte Regentschaft ist.

Augsburg is Bavaria's third largest city and, at over 2000 years, the oldest. Its impressive stream and canal system earned the City on the Romantic Road the coveted title of Unesco World Heritage Site. The city’s most famous son is Jakob Fugger – 500 years ago the richest man in the world. With his “Fuggerei”, he created a unique monument to charity. His life and work still shape the image of the city today.
Now that we're up at the Fisherman's Bastion in Budapest, let's take a look at a very impressive building that's only a hundred meters away from where I took yesterday's picture.
Here we are in the overwhelmingly beautiful Matthias Church, the royal church of the Hungarian monarchy. The coronation ceremonies of some Hungarian rulers took place here. Among others, those of Charles the 4th, the last king of Hungary (1916) and Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie von Wittelsbach are certainly better known to many as the Empress Sissi (1867).
The first king of Hungary (Stephen the First) had a church built on this site in 1038, which of course was constantly expanded and rebuilt over the past 1200 years and was once almost completely destroyed and rebuilt.
This house has a very eventful history that is worth exploring before entering these hallowed halls. It feels completely different standing here (at least for me).
By the way, what you see here is a 180 degree panorama that I took freehand because tripods are not allowed in here.
Wo wir nun schon einmal oben auf der Fischerbastei in Budapest sind, schauen wir uns doch gleich noch ein sehr imposantes Gebäude an, welches nur hundert Meter von dem Punkt entfernt steht, von dem ich das gestrige Bild fotografiert habe.
Wir befinden uns hier in der überwältigend schönen Matthiaskirche, der Krönigskirche der ungarischen Monarchie. Hier fanden die Krönigszeremonien von einigen ungarischen Herrschern statt. Unter anderen die von Karl dem 4., dem letzten König der Ungarn (1916) und Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie von Wittelsbach vielen sicherlich besser bekannt als die Kaiserin Sissi (1867).
Bereits der erste König der Ungarn (Stephan der Erste) lies im Jahre 1038 an dieser Stelle eine Kirche bauen welche natürlich in den vergangenen 1200 Jahren stetig erweitert und umgebaut und einmal fast vollstänig zerstort und wieder aufgebaut wurde.
Dieses Haus hat eine sehr bewegente Geschichte hinter sich, mit der es sich lohnt zu beschäftigen, bevor man in diese heiligen Hallen tritt. Es fühlt sich dann ganz anders an hier zu stehen (zumindest für mich).
Was Ihr hier seht ist übrigens ein 180 Grad Panorama, welches ich freihand aufgenommen habe, denn Stative sind hier drin nicht erlaubt..

As far as I could see the climbers spent the whole night on top. They must have experienced an unforgettable sunrise.

Here you can see a view over the rooftops of Trinidad, a beautiful city in the heart of Cuba. Due to its well-preserved historic cityscape, with buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 1980s.
The city's history began as early as 1514 as a small Spanish settlement. However, in the 18th century, it achieved fame and fortune, developing into the most important sugar metropolis in Cuba. As a result, it became the third-largest city of the country.
This also meant that a large number of slaves were brought here to work on the plantations.
The traces of this rather inglorious period can still be seen near the city today.
Hier seht Ihr einen Blick über die Dächer von Trinidad einer wunderschönen Stadt im Herzen Kubas. Auf Grund seines sehr gut erhaltenen historischen Stadtbildes, mit Gebäuden aus dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert, wurde die Stadt in den 1980iger Jahren zum Unesco Weltkulturerbe ernannt.
Die Geschichte der Stadt begann jedoch bereits 1514 als kleine spanische Siedlung. Doch im 18. Jahrhundert gelangte sie dann zu Ruhm und Reichtum, denn sie entwickelte sich zur bedeutendsten Zuckermetropole in Kuba. Dadurch wurde sie zur drittgrößten Stadt des Landes.
Dies hatte allerdings auch zur Folge, dass eine Vielzahl von Sklaven hier her gebracht wurden um auf den Plantagen zu arbeiten.
Die Spuren dieser eher unrühmlichen Zeit können auch heute noch in der Nähe der Stadt besichtigt werden.

Blick zur Kanzel und zum Altar der Schlosskirche in Wittenberg. Die Kirche gilt als Ausgangspunkt der Reformation. Von hier aus hat Martin Luther am 31. Oktober 1517 seine 95 Disputationsthesen verbreitet. Die Kirche ist UNESCO-Welterbestätte.

The Treasury (Al-Khazneh) of Petra, the ancient city of the Nabataeans, Jordan, a mausoleum carved out of sandstone just after leaving the Siq.
The picture was taken on a cold and gray Christmas morning, hardly any people around, just a lonely worker looking for something to do ;-)

Das Bild entstand an einem kalten und grauen Weihnachtsmorgen, kaum Menschen unterwegs, nur ein einsamer Arbeiter, der eine Beschäftigung suchte;-)

I need to include another photo from Ayutthaya in Thailand. Otherwise, I'll never get to all of them.
Technically, I'm standing in one of the temple buildings of Wat Mahathat, even though the outer walls are unfortunately missing.
At the end of this former hall, where the altar would be in our churches, there's a Buddha sitting.
By the way, to my left behind me is the tree with the head in its roots, which I also have a photo of.
Well, I'll show you all of them eventually. It just takes a while.
Ich muss mal wieder ein Foto von Ayutthaya in Thailand mit unterbringen. Sonst werden die nie alle.
Hier befinde ich mich technisch gesehen in einem der Tempelgebäude von Wat Mahathat, auch wenn leider die Außenwände abhanden gekommen sind.
Am Ende dieser ehemaligen Halle, wo in unseren Kirchen der Altar steht, sitzt hier ein Buddha.
Links hinter mir befindet sich übrigens der Baum mit dem Kopf in seinen Wurzeln, von dem ich auch noch eine Foto habe.
Naja, irgenwann werd ich euch die alle gezeigt haben. Es dauert eben nur etwas.

Auf einem Rundweg zunächst hinauf zum Opferplatz geht es diesen Weg wieder hinunter. Zum Teil sehr rutschig durch Sand auf den ausgetretenen Stufen, war der Weg doch nicht ganz ungefährlich. Die alte Nabatäer Stadt Petra (über 2000 Jahre alt)befindet sich in Jordanien und ist Unesco Welterbe . Es ist ein riesengroßes Gelände.

Just about an hour from Bangkok lies the city of Ayutthaya. Once the capital of the Kingdom of Siam, it was one of the largest urban and cosmopolitan centers in the world from the 14th to the 18th century until it was unfortunately completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1776 and never rebuilt.
Due to its significant history and the numerous temple complexes that can be visited here as witnesses to this era (unfortunately, in ruins), the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
In the ruins of the impressive temple "Wat Mahathat," you can find a tree whose roots have grown around a Buddha sculpture, creating this special work of art, which you can see up close here.
I'll stay here tomorrow. I'll see what other interesting things I can discover.
Nur ca. eine Stunde von Bangkok entfernt liegt die Stadt Ayutthaya. Einst die Hauptstadt des Königreiches von Siam war sie vom 14. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert eines der größten urbanen und kosmopolitischen Zentren der Welt, bis sie leider 1776 von den Burmesen vollkommen zerstört und nie wieder aufgebaut wurde.
Auf Grund seiner bedeutenden Geschichte und der zahlreichen Tempelanlagen die hier als Zeitzeugen zu besichtigen sind (leider als Ruinen), wurde die Stadt 1991 zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe ernannt.
In den Ruinen des beeindruckenden Tempel "Wat Mahathat" findet man einen Baum, dessen Wurzeln um eine Buddha Skulptur gewachsen sind und damit dieses besondere Kunstwerk erschaffen haben, welches Ihr hier aus der Nähe sehen könnt.
Ich werde den morgigen Tag hier noch verweilen. Mal sehen, was ich noch so interessantes entdecken kann.

The city was mentioned for the first time 902 under the name of Castrum Babenberch. The foundation of the diocese was done in 1007 by Emperor Henry II. Since 1993 the Old Town, belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage.
