I take my foot off the drone and bend down to try and get a look at its gun.

Ding Dong is reputedly one of the oldest mines in Cornwall. A local legend even says that Joseph of Arimathea (accompanied by the young Jesus Christ) visited the location.
In fact, the name used to apply only to the central part of the "sett". Sixteen separate mines came together early in the 19th. century to form the present sett including Ding Dong in the middle.
Ding Dong is best known for the 28-inch inverted engine designed by Edward (Ned) Bull, which was installed at Ding Dong in 1796, and which infringed James Watt's condenser patent. Watt sent his lawyers who posted an injunction on the engine-house door, bringing work to a halt. Richard Trevithick then modified Bull's engine to bypass the condenser entirely and exhaust to atmosphere. This got around Watt's patent and was enthusiastically taken up by other mines in Cornwall. The modified engines are said to have produced a characteristic "puffing or chuffing" sound when working...
The Greenburrow engine house shown here is the best preserved of the three that still remain and can be seen for miles around. It was built in 1865 for a 40 inch pumping engine. By 1874 the mine had five beam engines and a workforce of 273 - impossible to conceive today in such a barren location! The mine finally closed in 1880 having produced 3,472 tons of black tin valued at £222,000 - an enormous sum for those days!
The F-97 Tactical UAV, affectionately referred to as the "Tasmanian Devil", is used primarily for swift strike operations. It is seen here with a light gauss rifle, for anti-vehicular / structural roles.
Built for the 2009 contest in the Lego Military group. The F-97 is a near-future UAV based loosely on a piece of unused Halo 3 concept art.
I'll post this in a submissions thread when the admins start one.

A soldier from the Royal Artillery launches the Desert Hawk 3 UAS (Unmanned Air System) over Salisbury Plain during a training exercise.
Desert Hawk is an extremely versatile and small Unmanned Aerial System designed for discrete operations. It is operated normally at the company level but is equally well employed above and below this. It has an extremely good record proven over the last year and is currently supporting 16 Air Assault Brigade in Afghanistan. It provides an excellent 'over the hill' view for commanders on the ground.

This is just to show the detached drone. I nicknamed it Jason after the little sub in Dr. Riptide. Whatever.
In the Nineties the city of York was served by Yorkshire Rider operating aS Rider York which was still running a lot of former West Yorkshire vehicles, but as well as East Yorkshire too it was also the stamping group for some private operators like Glenn who ran this smart Plaxton bodied Leyland Leopard which came from Whippet of Fenstanson.

Neuron is a European collaboration project to develop a UCAV demonstrator, Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle. Six aviation industries are participating. The work packages being managed by Saab relate to low signature (stealth) technology, flight testing, aerodynamics, avionics, fuel system, the critical part of the ground station, as well as the design and production of the main fuselage. The crafts’ length is 10 metres, width 12 metres and weight 7 tonnes. The first flight is planned for 2012.
Most places have a gradual change of seasons. In Southern California, it's a sudden event. Last night we had a change of weather. The marine layer slowly rolled in like a magical cloud of change and I was there at Laguna Beach. No golden sunset, but a dramatic splash of crimson and red. It's really something breathtaking to see. Enjoy! Shot with Casper, my DJI Inspire 1. 3 Image aerial Panorama. Processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop
