Playing with ideas for generative type. These sketches use a modified (off-lattice) Eden growth model, with a bitmap of the type used as a constraint for growth. The different textures come from tweaking the growth rules. View this one high res to see the fine detail.

Typography exercise using found text (from an issue of STEP design magazine).

While cleaning out an old portfolio I ran across a paste-up of a typeface that my husband designed. He would work on an alphabet, then paste the individual letters on a board with reduction instructions for the printer. The printer would print a volume of sheets that I would use to paste up words for display headings that would be reduced to whatever size would be needed to use in a mechanical.

The old-fashion way of having a typeface in display sizes to use when nothing was available, all long, long before Fontographer.

I laminated the whole sheet to use as a teaching aid when I taught typography classes and it got such heavy use that the laminating material is pealing off.
