Mette-Sofie D. Ambeck is a Danish designer and book artist who has built up a significant international profile since beginning to create and exhibit her own artists’ book publications in 2000. Her work is represented in many international public and private collections including the Tate and V&A. Her signature style is to hand-cut sequential narratives into the white pages of books which she has also bound. Her themes often relate to mechanical, robotic or man-made objects. In 2010 she remade an earlier unique edition – based on the Nordic creation myths and entitled ‘Steam, Salt, Milk‘ – during a laser-cutting residency at University of West England, Bristol.
When launched at the Whitechapel Gallery’s London Art Book Fair that September the edition was awarded the Birgit Skiöld Award for Excellence.
Since 2009 Mette has be involved with organising the Doverodde Book Arts Festival in Denmark while continuing to produce her own work.
