We went to the Lincoln Park Zoo yesterday. Love was in the air! Strange, though, only his head was moving.

Somewhere in ocean shallows, a group of sea turtles swims among underwater rocks. Seaweed and urchins cover the rocky walls of the aquatic seascape, while bubbles rise to the surface from the deep. Meanwhile, rays of sunlight cut through the water, broken by the rippling surface of the sea above. The five ancient sea creatures swim slowly and majestically by the viewer through the blue undersea world.

This is the second in my series featuring sea turtles. All three can be found in my Aquatic Life gallery: daniel-eskridge.artistwebsites.com/art/all/aquatic+life/all .

What kind of turtle is this?

Mr. Turtle was living dangerously on the road, so we helped him out.

I am NOT coming out to play - and you can't make me!

Redirected this little guy from the middle of the road.

I came across this turtle as she was laying her eggs about 15 feet from the edge of the water. She had formed a hole with her back feet, and was covering the eggs as I watched. When I passed by a couple of hours later, she was gone but it was easy to see where she left her eggs. I'm not convinced she picked the safest spot, guess we'll see in a couple of months when they're due to hatch.

Turtles at Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, PA

This painted turtle was found near the railroad tracks in Lenox, Massachusetts. Her mobile home on wheels was sporting a nifty little tattoo! Do you see it?

Saved a turtle from the road

I found this turtle crossing the road. I stopped to move it to the side but saw that it was headed to woods that were being logged so I brought it home and put it at the edge of the swamp bordering our land. It's State land and the same kind of habitat. I hope the move works for this beautiful creature.

Turtles are reptiles most of whose body is shielded by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs. The earliest known turtles date from 215 million years ago, making turtles one of the oldest reptile groups and there are about 300 species alive today.
