Big Bend National Park

Southwest Texas

The morning I took this, she had just been in a fight with another fox. It was the little red male. For some reason she usually goes after him when he shows up. There were 4 fox there at the same time within 50-75 feet of each other. All of them were vocalizing. Or should I say screaming, because that is sort of what it sounds like. After the fight she moved off about a 100 feet, laid down and started grooming herself. Then she just kicked back and let me get my photos. That was a really good morning and I was able to work with her a lot. I took around 1,100 shots her and the other fox that morning.

I went out to see her yesterday and I saw her and 3 other fox. They were doing a lot of moving around. She got into a fight with another fox and when she came out of the brush there was a big tuff of her undercoat hanging off her left hind flank. Pretty sure that she is starting to shed her undercoat.

The river has some pretty big open stretches in it now, so, it is easier for her to get a drink. That area where she was drinking, has now collapsed into an open area about 30 feet

across.

The Golden Gate on the Loop Road south of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park runs through a canyon along Glen Creek called the Golden Gate. The cayon wall expose Huckleberry Ridge Tuff, which erupted during the first volcanic cycle of Yellowstone about 2.1 million years ago. This outcrop of the Huckleberry Ridge Tuff lies about 20 km north from the rim of the caldera that formed as a consequence of its eruption. The tuff extends in a finger like shape north outside the caldera. Based on the distribution of the tuff, geologists postulate that the ash may have flowed down a broad river valley that existed before the eruption and filled or partly flled the valley. Subsequent cooling, faulting, and uplift caused the fractures.

Rano Raraku, Rapa Nui, Easter Island, Chile.

Rano Raraku is a volcanic crater formed of consolidated volcanic ash, or tuff, and located on the lower slopes of Terevaka in the Rapa Nui National Park on Easter Island in Chile. It was a quarry for about 500 years until the early eighteenth century, and supplied the stone from which about 95% of the island's known monolithic sculptures (moai) were carved. Rano Raraku is a visual record of moai design vocabulary and technological innovation, where 887 moai remain. Rano Raraku is in the World Heritage Site of Rapa Nui National Park and gives its name to one of the seven sections of the park.

The incomplete statues in the quarry are remarkable both for their number, for the inaccessibility of some that were high on the outside crater wall and for the size of the largest; at 21.6 m (71 feet) in height, almost twice that of any moai ever completed and weighing an estimated 270 tonnes, many times the weight of any transported.

Some of the incomplete moai seem to have been abandoned after the carvers encountered inclusions of very hard rock in the material.

Others may be sculptures that were never intended to be separated from the rock in which they are carved.

Uncommon visitor and a lifer for me.

This species of ducks is migratory in nature and can be spotted in regions around the Persian Gulf, southern India, Mediterranean Sea and Saudi Arabia in certain months of the year. In fact, they migrate throughout Asia, Europe and Africa with occasional trips to North America as well.

A little gray bird with an echoing voice, the Tufted Titmouse is common in eastern deciduous forests and a frequent visitor to feeders. The large black eyes, small, round bill, and brushy crest gives these birds a quiet but eager expression that matches the way they flit through canopies, hang from twig-ends, and drop in to bird feeders. When a titmouse finds a large seed, you’ll see it carry the prize to a perch and crack it with sharp whacks of its stout bill.

dare sketch in an old photocopied magazine (tuff times 3).

Starting from the 4th century AD, with small anchorite communities, people once lived in whole underground villages, hewn into these rock formations, made from "tuff", a soft volcanic rock.

Taken at Rocksprings, through layers of glass and smudges in the observation room. If only I could have made that window between us disappear just long enough to get a sharper shot. A lovely way to get close to nature without interrupting it though
