The Kirchheim Tuff cliff (Tuff Felsen) is a natural heritage site. The water from the vineyards above is dripping down the cliff, creating a moss covered half grotto. Here I'm just looking up to the top of the cliff.

I took some shots at Tsankawi and on my way back I saw this vista. Apparently geologists call this kind of rock "Tuff".

The way I understand it, it is volcanic ash that was deposited here over the eons by successive eruptions and later capped with sedimentary rock.

Let me know if I'm wrong. There are a lot of these kind of cliffs in the area and they are really impressive.

Cape Fiolent occupies a special place among Crimean beauties. Its severe rocks that pile up over endless sea surface stretch for several kilometers from Sevastopol to Balaklava. It is one of the most charming and inimitable corners on the Crimean peninsula that captures with beauty of wild nature and never-ending romance. Situated far from south-coastal resorts' noise and fuss, it is the best place for calm balanced recreation and admiration of splendid Crimean panoramas.

Fiolent has volcanic origin: it was formed due to ancient volcano's activity that functioned here over 150 million years ago. Lava flows and tuff layers are still seen in coastal steep astride the Cape. Impregnations of various minerals - jasper, chalcedony, cornelian and others - can be also spotted in the cape strata.

Мыс Фиолент — одно из сказочных мест Крыма. Находится в 10 километрах от Балаклавы в сторону Севастополя. Мыс Фиолент образовался около 160 миллионов лет назад, после мощнейшего извержения вулкана, застывшие потоки лавы можно наблюдать и по сей день. Их причудливые формы делают пейзаж местности поистине уникальным природным творением. Огромное количество пещер и гротов, чистейшая вода, свежий морской воздух делают его бесспорно уникальным местом на планете.

Второе название мыса Фиолент — мыс Георгиевский, из-за монастыря, который был воздвигнут в 891 году. В силу неизвестных причин в 1807 году Георгиевский мыс был внесен в картографию Российской империи как мыс Фиолент. Это название сохранилось и по сей день.
