On 11/1/2011, Brad Feld and Jason Mendelson were in town and hosted an event called "Are You Smarter Than Your Lawyer and Venture Capitalist?". They fielded questions in a panel format and many of Portland's entrepreneurs were in the audience.
So Molly proposed a very simple swap -- 16 of her favourite prints for 16 of mine -- and the process just kept getting more and more fun. I really enjoyed curating the charms I ended up sending her, but seriously, I'm kind of embarrassed after receiving her package to me! I kind of asked Molly if I could just swap for a (much) smaller number of Liberty of London charms, which I'd like for a summer project. Molly did me one better by sending me *lots* of charms, and then sent me all of these amazing extras! She also added these adorable fabric-loving notes, which I hope she doesn't mind me sharing here. I'm going to sit back and admire these, and maybe one day I'll come up with a project awesome enough for these guys. I'm a little astounded at her generosity, sending me anything at all from the much-coveted Alexander Henry Countdown and that mysterious, unidentifiable "art deco" favourite of hers.
Thanks so much for for a great swap, Molly! I hope my package to you arrives soon.
We happened upon this instance of the Dread Pirate Roberts (now a yearly figure), holding Kagome new-bride style. How do you resist capturing the Mary Sue in its element like that? (She's also holding his ROUS puppet, which is adorable.)

I went to my favorite place on Earth to eat in Astoria... and they were closed. I had dinner elsewhere and it was horrible.
True Triple Crown
It’s was the only ride that I ever thought of whenever I looked across at the North Shore here in Vancouver. With a combined climbing of about 3400 metres up three mountains over 140km, it was the one ride that always wanted to cross off the list. Starting in Vancouver one climbs the three mountains of Seymour, Grouse and Cypress on the North Shore, each time returning to the base before attempting the next. Each climb on is decent on its own, averaging 8% and are popular with the local cycling community, but linking them together is where the magic is. Especially given that Grouse is a gravel road. Yes, an 8% gravel service road up to a ski hill.
After three years of wanting to attempt it, the day finally came on July 21st. At 6am on a blue sky saturday morning Alex, Matt, Peter and myself departed. Rolling east to west we tackled Seymour, Grouse and Cypress over the course of 7.5 hours of riding. Three flats were encountered, a low number given that 30km was on gravel with 23c tires, an average of 2 coffees were downed and countless Clif Shot Bloks were consumed but in the end we accomplished it. A truly epic ride.
"We all have a social mask, right? We put it on, we go out, put our best foot forward, our best image. But behind that social mask is a personal truth, what we really, really believe about who we are and what we're capable of."
