Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Churchyard
Pleasant Ridge began as a settlement in 1795, when a small fort (McFarland's Station) was built in nearby Kennedy Heights to protect early settlers from Indian attacks. A short walk to a ridge overlooking the Mill Creek Valley was said to have evoked an agreement within the group that it was, indeed, a "pleasant" ridge. The Pleasant Ridge Cemetery was dedicated in the same year, and in 1800 became the site of the historic Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church.
Middle School students perform The Little Mermaid, the story of Ariel, a fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, who is off on the adventure of a lifetime with her best friend, the adorable Flounder, and the reggae-singing Caribbean crab Sebastian at her side. But it will take all of her courage and determination to make her dreams come true -- and save her father's beloved kingdom from the sneaky sea witch Ursula!
"True Love Waits" - radiohead
I'll drown my beliefs
To have you be in peace
I'll dress like your niece
To wash your swollen feet
Just don't leave, don't leave
And true love waits
In haunted attics
And true love wins
On lollipops and crisps
Just don't leave, don't leave
I'm not living
I'm just killing time
Your tiny hands
Your crazy kiss and smile
Just lonely, lonely
Just lonely, lonely
The short story of "Patches." Patches arrived at the cemetery about three mos ago. I've mentioned that I work part time at a cemetery and find the place anything but "dead" :). Patches is approx twenty years young and was in terrible physical condition when my Boss inherited him. I truly expected to return and hear that he had died. He had lived caged and his legs were so weak he could barely stand. Needless to say, with good nutrition and meds not only has he rallied but goes on "walk abouts" daily, He Loves his new life, but what he adores most is His reflection.....so funny to watch, he will walk down the hall, catch a glimpse of himself, goes back as if to say....WHO is that??!! :)
Today's photo shows Bob from the Balmoral Bike Shop. Bob has run the shop in Riding Road for 30 years. His involvement in cycling includes years as a competitor, his enthusiasm for encouraging people into the sport, not to forget his dedication to assembling the first bikes for children eager to enter the world of the cyclist.
