Continuing the series of images from the Sandwich Fair, the biggest and the last county fair in the state of Illinois. Known simply as "The Fair" by locals, it was started in 1888 and is the oldest continually-operated county fair in Illinois as well.

Held the week after Labor Day, the Sandwich Fair can draw tens of thousands of visitors per day and is a photographer's delight.

It is the reason why my photography club, the Sandwich Photographic Society exists. Formed in 1986 to document every aspect of the 100th Sandwich Fair in 1987, SPS is now a Chicago Area Camera Club Association certified club.

SPS sponsors a "Sandwich Fair Challenge" every year a themed photographic competition open to all that consists of 10-15 categories with the only criteria being that all images need to be taken at the current year's Fair. Many of the images featured in this series were taken to fit these categories.

This image is of one of the traveling interactive shows, this one being the Trivia Tractor. It was new for 2019, and so far is the only time this has been held at the Fair. Tim Balster is the performer, a Chicago area magician and illusionist. He puts on a number of shows at the Fair every year. More information about Tim can be found on his two websites, balstermagic.com/ and kidbucksgameshow.com/.

This is a kind of documentary photo, because I plan to shave before my trip to Paraguay next week. I had been considering doing so anyway, weighing the considerable convenience of not shaving against the almost equal inconvenience of the soup-strainer moustache, but my Bush-inspired paranoia concerning Der Heimat Sicherheit tipped the scales in favor of having my actual appearance more or less resemble my passport picture.

So I will (probably) not be looking like this again any time soon.

something like 84 days until the Cambie House closes. Pity:

a pleasantly rough looking bar, but basically safe...

I am always stuck by how beautiful Shelburne's Dock Street is. I have, in the past also found it a constant source of frustration photographically as so many of views don't seem to translate well into an image. On my last visit I tried to find a few new angles and was fairly pleased with some of them. It helped that the breeze kept that flag perfectly displayed.

Trivia: The Scarlet Letter and The Moby Dick mini series (most recent) were filmed in Shelburne as well as several other movies.

Another night of Christmas Trivia is being hosted tonight! With 3000L$ to be given out, you do not want to miss the fun.

I've been playing trivia at a local bar every Wednesday. I enjoy the company of good people and good dogs, and I've been bringing art supplies so we can all paint and draw and doodle the whole time. (All being mostly the humans, not so much the dogs.)

Who is the the person in the photo taken in 1980 when she was a sophomore in high school and what is her relationship to the part of the trailer circled in red?
