Description: In Chandra's X-ray image (blue) of RCW 108, over 400 sources of X-ray light are seen. Many of these X-ray sources are young stars undergoing massive flaring just as our Sun did billions of years ago. The infrared Spitzer image (red and orange) shows the clouds of dust and gas of this region. The bright knot just to the left of center is where a cluster of young stars is hidden behind a dense cloud of molecular hydrogen. Intense radiation from massive stars in another nearby cluster, just out of view to the left of this image, is destroying the cloud that contains this cluster. Ultimately, this will trigger a new generation of stars to form in RCW 108.

Creator/Photographer: Chandra X-ray Observatory

The Chandra X-ray Observatory, which was launched and deployed by Space Shuttle Columbia on July 23, 1999, is the most sophisticated X-ray observatory built to date. The mirrors on Chandra are the largest, most precisely shaped and aligned, and smoothest mirrors ever constructed. Chandra is helping scientists better understand the hot, turbulent regions of space and answer fundamental questions about origin, evolution, and destiny of the Universe. The images Chandra makes are twenty-five times sharper than the best previous X-ray telescope. The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory controls Chandra science and flight operations from the Chandra X-ray Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I shot with Canon580EX2, soft box from the right with wireless trigger.

With all the plasma/ laser bayonets/ claws etc. I thought I might try my hand at one.

It collapses when deactivated. The trigger activates the blade and also features a safety measure, if the weapon is knocked out of the users hand the blade shuts off, similar to a dead man switch.

Nps.gov: Crater Lake inspires awe. Native Americans witnessed its formation 7,700 years ago, when a violent eruption triggered the collapse of a tall peak. Scientists marvel at its purity—fed by rain and snow, it’s the deepest lake in the USA and one of the most pristine on Earth. Artists, photographers, and sightseers gaze in wonder at its blue water and stunning setting atop the Cascade Mountain Range.

The 33-mile historic Rim Drive circumnavigates the lake and is open during summer and early fall (depending on weather and road conditions). Along the drive are 30 overlooks that were designed between 1931 and 1938 to highlight a specific view of the lake, a significant geologic formation in the caldera, or an environmental feature such as a subalpine meadow. Some of these stops have exhibits with information about the view. Other viewpoints leave room for visitor curiosity and discovery.

Where you choose to stop for a view of the lake or to capture the surrounding landscape of the park is a personal preference. Most of these pullouts do not have signs that offer a name or location. The park map indicates major stops that help with orientation. On average, visitors take two hours to complete the drive with eight or more stops.

Slender-calyxed Trigger Plant

These beautiful Stylidium are flowering currently.

The centre of these flowers is really intricate. The flowers here show before the trigger was set off and after, revealing the labellum sitting between the upper petals. The labellum on this plant is pink on both sides with a white centre stripe and has labellum wings to hold the column in position at rest ready for it to be set off to allow the correct placing of the column on the insect setting it off, to ensure pollination.

Flash triggers arrived today...

A dark pink flowering trigger plant growing on the roadside near a Nature Reserve.

Etymology (Why it is named as it is)

From the Latin torti - twisted and carpum - fruit in reference to the markedly twisted seed capsule.

Unfortunately the plant had only started to flower and no fruit were visible.

Photos: Jean

I have put possibly Stylidium torticarpum as S torticarpum is hard to diagnose unless you have the fruit visible also I needed a closer view of the leaves to show the leaf edges. It may be S. leptophyllum.

My bff Cindy is fast on the trigger! She caught me between poses here in a kind of candid moment! ...Which, as you can see by my big smile, makes it even more fun!

We had our May DC Area Trans Ladies Spring Fling Soirée this past weekend & I thought I'd wear this colorful and snug fitting long sleeved black & Aztec patterned lycra spandex minidress that had recently arrived from greatglam.com! I matched it up with my Hanes Alive Barely There support hose and my black patent peep toe platform pumps with the 5½" heels from venus.com.

I like this one better than the cropped version. This image was taken with the assistance of an AEO lightning trigger attached to the camera. It is the second storm I used it on. The first storm it did not capture lightning because of the fast shutter speed. I lowered the shutter speed on this storm and got better results. I was amazed the trigger was being activated by unseen lightning in the clouds. I heard the thunder after the trigger activated, but there was no lightning in those images.

I was at Ripley's Aquarium a couple of weeks ago. It is always a fun adventure when I go. I saw a diver jump in the sting ray tank and had cleaner shrimp walking around on my hands. The fish in the photo is one the prettier ones, but my favorite, of course, is the sharks.

These are the SOOC shots from the most magically wonderful moment! My mister asked if he could use my trigger so these are the genuine engagement pictures! I actually believed him when he said he was going to find a prop for the photo... I did not expect to open my eyes to him on one knee with a ring in hand and a smile that was literally beaming!

This is my favorite room out of the abandoned buildings Tyler and I go to and it's here at the "I Love You" wall that he asked me to marry him. I couldn't ask for a more amazing man to share my life with.

God has blessed our relationship every step of the way. He is more than I could have ever dreampt up.

(And as a side note: Just look at the sunlight filtering through a hole in the roof, you cant plan for something that beautiful! That was all God giving his blessing of approval)
