Car days...
Photos trigger our memories and emotions. If you're one of the lucky winners and you're DIKOOTH... (I've just made it up: Double Income Kids Out Of The House), you'll be around my age and have fond memories of the GOD (Good Old Days)...;)
You remember the first car you owned. No, it wasn't just a means of transport, it was a house, a castle, a disco, a place of refuge that conveyed a sense of security and home. You never really wanted to get out of the car, or at least only in emergencies, for example when the radiator was smoking.
My favourite memory of my first car: In the drive-in cinema: The heater on the left window, the loudspeaker on the right. There was a film playing in front, whatever, regardless of the genre. The windscreen steamed up, reclining seats, hot kisses and the Coke fell over, currywurst on my jacket. What the hell. Unlike today, I never fell asleep watching even the stupidest film. Nice to remember to the good old days.

I saw this Singer sewing machine recently at a store and it triggered so many childhood memories. …… many households had one of these. Happy Sunday 😊

The Hive is an immersive sound and visual experience. The lights you see and the sounds you hear inside The Hive are triggered by bee activity in a real beehive at Kew.
The intensity of the sounds and light change constantly, echoing that of the real beehive. The multi award-winning Hive was inspired by scientific research into the health of honeybees. It is a visual symbol of the pollinators’ role in feeding the planet and the challenges facing bees today.
Trigger decided to pose for his photo here. He is Bernese Mountain Dog and Heeler cross, and a great skiing companion.

The title of this photo was inspired by the song of the same name recorded by Queen.
Strobist info: an SB-900 speedlight shot through a 95 cm octagonal softbox with a grid positioned above the model. The speedlight was triggered by the camera's built-in flash set in CLS commander mode.
I was strolling along the river dyke in NE Richmond, at the time the area was completely swarmed by migratory snow geese. Just when i took out the camera, all of a sudden, a large flock of the snow geese started taking off.....
Whilst taking some bluebell shots in the local woods, I had a double take at this scene! This log triggered my inbuilt "fight or flight" alert system for a nano second. It certainly looked like some reptilian crocodile emerging from the depths.
The more I looked at it the more the logs form and texture seemed to resemble a crocodile. So for a bit of humourous interest I thought I would post it. There has been absolutely no manipulation of the image, this was exactly how this old tree appeared. So if " you go down to the woods today...." as they say!

Shot for Liiking Close on Friday - theme, lined up on a mirror.
This stalk came from a succulent plant growing in a pot in the garden.
Lighting stuff: The main light was a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box on a light stand at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light came from a mirror at camera right and a second Yongnuo Flash in a Rogue grid also at camera right. The strobes and tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1700 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/
If you like pictures of cactus and succulents, you might enjoy my Cactus and Succulents set. That set can be seen here, and has over 400 images in it.
We found this flower in a grocery store parking lot, and brought it home to exploit.
Lighting stuff: The main light was a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox positioned on a light stand to the left of the flowers at camera left and just out of the frame. Back lighting from a second Yongnuo manual flash in a Rogue grid positioned behind the flower at camera right. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera right and just out of the frame. The strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

When i found this box at springtime this year, i never thought of using this miracle box. my curiosity won out and this was an absolutely drastic experience for me. I was very moved by how easy and interesting it is to take pictures like this. 100 years later, the camera still serves its purpose. without battery, without electricity, without firmware. just pull the trigger, rotate and change film when full :)
aware that we are raping and destroying the earth more and more, this moment with the camera hit me extremely deeply in my mind. with this in mind: let's change the system together!
poor in means but rich in spirit, that is the only capital one can have!
Stay healthy and motivate us to change. Cheers✌
This is a small shell that I bought at the campground store at South Carlsbad State beach during our stay there last week.
Lighting stuff. I placed the shell on a mirror, and then lit it with a YN560--III in a 24 inch soft box at camera right at 3 o'clock. Fill light came from a small hand mirror at camera left. The flash, in manual mode, was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other shells that I have photographed over the years are in my creatively named Shells album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157626043932290

Lighting info - One SB-800 flash triggered by Nikon CLS - inside the ball ( $1 thing from a 2nd hand store).
Exposure: 1/250th
Aperture: f/19
Focal Length: 18 mm
Lens: Nikon 18-70mm
Camera: Nikon D200
Post Processing: Only cropping of the image as there was a bit too much black space on her side.
How did I get the angle? One foot on a ladder - the other on the opposite wall - thankful to my sense of balance from my rock climbing days.
*Since a few people have asked - the ball is from a lighting fixture - they're readily available here in Australia from second hand stores (on the shelf at the place I got this from, there were about 30 of them - all varying sizes). It is made of glass - so is somewhat fragile - has a hole and flattened base on one side - I put the flash inside the hole and sit the flat part on the bed.
My good friend Tully and his girlfriend Leah - she's an exchange student from Germany - and was leaving to go back to Germany a few days after this photo was taken. So I said I'd come and take some photos of them together before they had to be apart for many months.
Tully is an up and coming solo guitarist/singer - the same person in these 3 shots:

They're both 18 - yet their love for eachother is beautiful, like that of an old married couple, blissfully content for 60 years.
Being only 20 years old, I'm very new at the photography scene - having only shot for the past year or so.
My kindest regards and sincere thanks go out to all of you who have commented or added this photo to their favourites. It really does mean a lot to me and helps me to grow and improve as a photographer.
If this photo has attracted your attention or put a smile on your face - please have a look through my photo stream and offer any feedback you can, positive or negative - as I'm open to the wisdom and views of those with more experience than myself.
Flickr is an amazing place - never before has it been so easy to share so much creativeness and learn from eachother.

The ejection seat in the cockpit of a Buccaneer SB2. You can see the shoulder trigger on the left side above (loops above pilots shoulders). By pulling this trigger in an emergency case the pilot ignites a propellant which eject the complete seat upward after the cockpit glass also was blasted off before. This aircraft was one of the first jet aircrafts of the RAF, entering service first as a carrier borne plane in the Royal Navy in 1962. Seen in the RAF museum Weeze-Laarbruch

These little LL-Bean boots are actually key chains and double as great Christmas tree ornaments for outdoor photographers, hikers and hard-core off-roaders.
