Cheap Trick on Stage in Dallas 7-27-08
I WANT YOU... TO WANT...... MEEEEE!!!!!
Been a long time since my high school days and those words blasted from the speakers of my 1974 El Camino.
They were blasted from the stage in Dallas last night and for an evening we were transported back to those high school days when responsibilities were fewer, gas was 45 cents per gallon, Cindy was just my girlfriend, and there wasn't as much weight bearing down on my soles of my shoes.
Zander sounded very good and the group seemed to play as tight as they ever had.
Maybe they've dropped it an octave or two, but none in the considerably seasoned crowd seemed to care. I know I didn't.
Why couldn't we have had youth and brains??
Took a long time for me to finally see Cheap Trick in concert.
Had hoped to see them long ago, something was always holding me up
When I was a teen, I didn't have time.
When I married young and didn't have kids, the Boss-Lady didn't like concerts.
When I had kids, I didn't have the money.
When the kids got big, I didn't have the time.
When I had the money and the time and the boss-lady would go, most of the ones I wanted to see all died!
Six or seven years back, I wanted to see Cheap Trick, They were all still alive, they were coming to Ft Worth, Billy Bobs was a cheap place to see them, and I had the permission of the Boss-Lady.
Wow!!
I kidnapped Roger and we headed for Billy Bob's Texas.
When we got there, I located a tall table next to the railing and staked a spot. Didnt have chairs for these tables, but it was a place set a drink and it would kind of keep other folks from crowding you.
We had a bit of time before the show started and Roger left to stroll around for drinks while I guarded the table.
A few minutes later someone tapped me on the shoulder and when I turned around, there stood three large gentlemen in big black hats, old western, long overcoats and ear mikes. Wide and tall. They looked serious. The one closest to me must have weighed 320 lbs.
Anything that big and mobile should have to have a license plate.
I smiled real friendly-like. "Yes, Sir?"
The big one asked "Are you with this Gentleman?" and took a snap step to one side and I could see Roger standing behind them. I think they practiced this move a million times.
"Yes Sir"?!?!?!?! ..... Smiling, smmiiiillliing.
" We have been watching your friend and we are exiting him from the building. He said your driving."
Yes, Sir! .... Still smiling, glad to finally know a correct answer.
" That means you'll need to leave too." Sounded real guttural and precise. Lots of practice.
Now, these three folks live to hear idiots repeat, "I AINT GOING NOWHERE!!!" and since I didn't need to be the recipient of the "bums rush" I told the three nice gentleman and Roger "that means we're on the road".
It has been a long time, but Roger and I finally got to see Cheap Trick, the Boss-lady was working, and the only thing that held me up this time was the traffic headed out of Dallas and back to Denton.
These have been my favourite bootees for about 30 years. They are lined with copper-faced kid leather and are Soooo comfy.
They aren't the sort of thing to wear for walk or shopping but I have worn them such a lot and now they are fairly distressed, as the antique dealers would say!
But, worse than that, on Christmas Day 2011 the sole of one worked loose, and I had to see if repair was possible. Trickers appear to have stopped doing exciting ladies shoes, and only seem to have classics that well paid folk might wear at the office..large YAWN!
I could not bring myself to throw these away!
I do have a pair of red velvet Doc Marten's, but they are somewhat less dainty.
I did manage to get them done..relief!
While most kids were scouring neighborhoods on Halloween night Sunday, some others had the opportunity to walk into Bella Pizza in North East for a bag of Herr's Trick or Treat Potato Chips and Bella's pizza samples.
Owner Peppe Dimeo and Samantha Grove, like dressing up for the holiday as they work on pizza orders.
"Halloween is a nice celebration and we like to participate and to celebrate like eveyone else," said owner Peppe.
Bella's had some repeat trick or treaters on Sunday night and it wasn't for the candy.
"It's pretty funny. The kids were in earllier and they came back later. I had enough pizza, so I gave them more," said Peppe.
Three girls in colonial outfits came in and were happy to be leaving with the special edition potato chips.
"It's nice to see the look on the kids faces," said Samantha. "When they come in and see us dressed up, they like it and we like it to."
Samantha didn't have to think too hard for her costume of choice. It was the second year in a row she was a tigress.
"I'm a tiger. Actually I went to Rising Sun, so maybe that rubbed off on me," she said of the high school's mascot.

"Trick or Treat" ou "Gostosuras (cerejas) ou Travessuras (caveirinha)"
A children's trick that was in the Vermont Country Store. The idea is that there is a penny stuck in the middle of the wooden circle. You spin the penny and watch the circle spin. Then you look at your hand, and your hand will get bigger and smaller just like the whirls on the circle. My mom and dad used to take my children to flea markets when they were little, and this looks just like something that they would have come home with.
When I was a kid there was no such thing over here and I'm not sure when it "arrived" in the UK.
The traditional English thing around this time of year was "penny for the Guy" but a pair of old trousers and a shirt stuffed with rags with a mask on, being pushed round in an old pram (now called pushchairs or strollers - when did that happen??), seems to have become a thing of the past. Saying that I did see one outside a pub last week. Theres another thing that is rapidly becoming a "thing of the past". I should've taken a photo because in ten years noone will know what a Guy Fawkes or a pub is at this rate of decline.
Halloween is now a bonanza for the supermarket and £1 shops, not to mention being a bonanza for the landfill sites as they fill up with pumpkins, non biodegradable plastic cauldrons, tridents and tombstones on the first of November, after being put to very good use for almost two hours, the night before. Now that is frightening.
