I'm sure some clever clogs can tell me what sort of tree this is; it was the patterns on the trunk that caught my eye; and it is every bit as interesting close up, as you will see in the next shot....

The Malayan Phaeacius is a fairly large but crytic jumping spider living mostly on tree trunks. It was first recorded and described only quite "recently" in 1981 by Wanless.
