On the lookout for wood things and the top of this tree certainly caught the eye , as did the blue sky !!
Summer Tanager, Morro Bay, California. Quite a rare bird for our area. According to Wikipedia, these birds used to be placed in the Tanager family (hence the name) but now are included in the Cardinal family.

The watering hole at the famous Treetops Hotel in Kenya's Aberdares National Park. It was here that a young woman named Elizabeth was staying in 1952 when she found out that her father had died, and she had become a queen.

Isa Genzken’s Two Orchids at the southeast entrance to Central Park where the flowers rise to 28 and 34 feet. According to the Parks Department they are leaving today but the Public Arts Fund has them standing until August 26th.

Very happy to see White-winged Crossbills any time as it's been a few years now since we had a local irruption. Was a cold morning and I was shooting almost vertically at this male in the top of a spruce...made for a tired shoulder and numb fingers, but you gotta do what you gotta do! :)
