Puzzle Wood in the forest of Dean, full of ancient trees and intriguing paths.
Puzzle Wood is an ancient forest seen in numerous film and TV series. The latest and biggest is an important scene from the new Star Wars saga - The Force Awakens.
Puzzlewood doubles as the planet Takodana, home to Maz Kanata and features an important scene between Rey and Kylo Ren.
Looking up from beneath a lush beech tree (Fagus sylvatica) with its leaves back lit by the early morning sunshine.
Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky - Khalil Gibran.

On a dull rainy day by Niagara-On-The
-Lake. It wasn't easy to capture what the eyes saw but here is an atempt to capture the colours.
I've learned to not dillydally when a scene like this presents itself, I was going to try to get my camera out of my pack, but thought better of it and went for my phone instead! It was just as well I did too, as the light-shafts started diminishing in intensity after only two shots.
A Dawn Redwood tree to the left & branches of a Norway maple directly above me (best viewed large). A Hipstamatic shot edited with "green gap", one of the smooth Flickr filters HSS!
My heartfelt thanks again to all my wonderful Flickr friends for your kind messages of support for Martin & myself. He's already feeling slightly better on the new treatment regime to help his breathing.
Photo 60/100 my 100 x photos this year will be of foliage: so woodland scenes, individual trees, wild/garden plants and fallen leaves 🍃🍁🌳🍂
Yesterday morning, it was incredible cold, a chill that went through all layers. But the morning scene was beautiful with the cold thick mist and the tree canopy covered in layers of frost. A photographers dream, if you ask me.
Warm evening light ignites a towering cumulus above the University of Texas campus in Austin. The UT Tower anchors the scene while layered stratus slice the sky and the city settles into shadow—an atmospheric, golden-hour “cloud-as-monument” moment.
A heavy summer rain rolls through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, cloaking the ridgelines in mist and cloud. The deep greens of the forest canopy glisten with moisture, while low clouds obscure the peaks, creating a moody, layered landscape rich with atmosphere and natural drama.
Fallen trees in Puzzle Wood, an ancient woodland recently used for filming the planet Takodana scenes in the new Star Wars instalment 'The Force Awakens'
A glimpse of my Fairy Godmother perhaps?
Two of my photos combined - one is the entrance way to the walled garden - the other a screen grab.
Cross Processed, transparency.
Beech trees light up a multi coloured forest during the Autumn months in the Clydach Gorge, South Wales.
Wide-angle long exposure of an inviting jungle pool. In 27-years, this pool has changed little, but it's well and truly on the map now, so it gets packed at weekends and holidays. It's holding up well, but litter is an unfortunate ongoing issue. The local authorities keep talking about an entrance fee, but once money gets involved, everything goes belly up in these here parts!
This tranquil image captures a serene forest river bordered by lush greenery in full spring bloom. The still water reflects the trees and sky like a mirror, creating a harmonious blend of light, color, and calm—inviting viewers into nature's peaceful embrace.
I'm about 95% sure I took this photo somewhere in the Loire Valley in France. If somebody knows better and can correct me, I'd be grateful!
Probably shot through the window of the tour bus while I was visiting France with my high school French club. That partly explains the awkward composition. I was 17 at the time.
Scanned and freshly edited for #ThrowbackThursday.

La peculiar formación que recrean las centenarias hayas y el serpenteante cauce del rio que lo atraviesa (Zubizabala), convierten el Hayedo de Otzarreta en un espacio natural que nos deja absortos.

The Veluwezoom is a beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands, located in the province of Gelderland. It is the country’s oldest national park, established in 1930, and covers over 50 square kilometers. The area is known for its diverse landscape of rolling hills, expansive heathlands, dense forests, and picturesque sand drifts.
I spent Labor Day weekend in Louisiana and was lucky enough to tour and visit this fantastic place while I was there. Oak Alley Mansion and Plantation is a historic plantation located on the Great Mississippi River Road near the community of Vacherie, Louisiana. It is protected as a National Historic Landmark. It gets it's name after its distinguishing feature, an alley or canopied path created by a double row of live oaks about 800 feet (240 meters) long that was planted in the early 18th century, long before the present house was built. The "alley" of trees seen here runs between the house and the Mississippi River. The live oaks are evergreen, holding their leaves throughout the winter months. In spring, old leaves drop off and new leaves are formed. The oldest live oaks in the country are estimated to be between several hundred to over a thousand years old... Your visits and comments are always appreciated. Happy weekend and I'm hoping to catch up with everyone soon.
Blue-hour panorama of downtown Austin from Covert Park at Mount Bonnell. Warm sunset reflections ignite the glass while city lights rise against a deep indigo sky. A dark tree canopy anchors the scene and keeps attention on the core skyline.
This is perhaps the most photographed tree in Portland! After shooting the "classic" composition, I moved around and this view caught my attention! To accentuate the tree, I shot this using wide aperture to make the surrounding maple leaves out-of-focus and used it to frame my subject.
Several years ago I went to photograph spirit bears (Kermode bear, Ursus americanus kermodeii), one of the rarest animals in the world, on Princess Royal Island in the Great Bear Rainforest. The white colour of the bear is a result of a recessive gene carried by the local black bears. My local contacts are telling me that spirit bear sightings have now dropped to almost nothing in the last ~3 years, which is very disturbing. We bushwhacked up a salmon stream and photographed several spirit bears fishing for salmon. In this photo, denoised, sharpened and colour adjusted, a spirit bear glows white as it stands in the river under a tree canopy looking for salmon.
