Palm Springs might be one of my favorite desert get-a-ways. The city is nestled in the Coachella Valley surrounded by the San Jacinto Mountains. the architecture in Palm Springs compares to no other city. Nearly every home and building carries with it a deep appreciation for the mid-century modern design aesthetic that first found its way to the city in the 1920s. visionary, modern architects played with sleek lines juxtaposed against the dramatic surroundings. This desert modernism movement continues nearly a century later.
Each year, the city orchestrates the mid-century modern architecture bike tour giving locals a visual journey through homes designed by California "starchitects" such as Richard Neutra and John Lautner to name a few. When I stumbled upon the bike tour on line, I immediately signed up myself and my best friend (and fellow vagabond spirit). Touring the city of Palm Springs on a bicycle and getting lost (quite literally) among its mid-century modern designs was a complete adventure.
