I went through Natural Bridge National Monument much as Chevy Chase took in the Grand Canyon in National Lampoon's Vacation; I drove straight around it, stopping off quickly at a few overlooks to snap some pictures before heading off again.

I doubt such a visit does the place justice. To do that, I think, you'd really need to hike down into the canyon and view the bridges with the sky in the background. Otherwise, with just more rock appearing through the bridge's opening, and the lack of depth perception that you get in photos, it is difficult to discern any opening in the rock.

Glorious Panchachuli peaks

The Panchachuli peaks are a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks lying at the end of the eastern Kumaon region, near Dugtu Village Darma valley. The peaks have altitudes ranging from 6,334 metres to 6,904 metres. They form the watershed between the Gori and the Darmaganga valleys.

This September Kay and I visited central Utah. We spent a lot of time at Bryce Canyon National Park. My favorite time to observe the canyons was just moments after the sun peaked over the horizon and lit up the hoodoos.

After we got back from the Mills Creek Falls trail, dehydrated and famished, we ate at the cafe at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. Then it was back in the car to drive up Lassen Peak Highway (CA-89) through the park.

Along the way, we stopped; first at the Bumpass Hell parking lot, then at Emerald Lake, and finally at Lake Helen--named for the first woman to summit Lassen Peak and supposedly the snowiest place in California. Who knows if that is true. After all, you can't always believe what you read on the Internet.

Kinkakuji (金閣寺, Golden Pavilion) is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. Kinkakuji was the inspiration for the similarly named Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), built by Yoshimitsu's grandson, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, on the other side of the city a few decades later.
