HUMPHREYS GARRISON — Volunteer awards recognition and various organizational updates were among the highlights at the USAG Humphreys Community Town Hall meeting, Oct. 19, in the Community Activity Center here.
Humphreys Garrison Commander Col. Joseph P. Moore hosted the quarterly meeting, which is conducted in a presentation and question-answer forum. It is the communities’ opportunity to find out what is happening throughout the garrison and to ask questions about things that concern them.
To begin the evening, Moore and Denise Chappell, the Army Community Service Volunteer Corps coordinator, presented the Volunteers of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2010. They were: Capt. Darrell O. Flythe, (Active Duty Soldier) for volunteer hours completed as an individual and with his unit, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys; Cpl. Park Sang-yoon (Korean Augmentation to the U.S. Army Soldier), also assigned to HHC, USAG Humphreys, for volunteering 75 hours during the quarter; Andetrie Pharr (Retiree) for her work at various community events; Saadiq Phillips (Youth) for his time spent volunteering at events both on- and off-post; Tanesha Bernard (Family Member) for her work with Army Community Services in preparation for the Humphreys Garrison Army Family Action Plan conference; and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys for providing almost 1200 volunteer hours in various endeavors.
In addition to the Volunteer Awards, Moore presented Community Efforts awards to eight organizations for their “outstanding contributions and support to the USAG Humphreys community, whose contributions have enriched our way of life and will be appreciated for many years to come.”
Those honored were: American Forces Network-Osan, Defense Commissary Agency-Humphreys Commissary, Humphreys Legal Assistance Office, People to People Pyeongtaek Chapter, United Service Organizations, Pyeongtaek Cultural Center, Humphreys Exchange, and Humphreys American Schools.
The next Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Jan. 25, at 6 p.m., in the CAC. As with previous meetings, presenters’ slides and answers to all submitted questions are available on the garrison website, at humphreys.korea.army.mil/Townhall.

I was lucky to catch the transformation of this Black Swallowtail caterpillar last week. I am now waiting for it to emerge in the next day or two. The Black Swallowtail in the middle photo is one I shot several years ago.

The plans for the Transformation have been designed by Snohetta, with consultation by the Times Square Alliance and the Department of Transportation.
Throughout the construction, the Times Square Alliance will provide real-time updates to Times Square residents, businesses, and other interested parties.

In “Oceans in Transformation,” John Palmesino and Ann-Sofi Rönnskog explore the impact our actions have on the world’s oceans. Their “Territorial Agency” actively engages with the insights of world systems theory, linking data and narratives that are usually rarely connected. “Oceans in Transformation” is about ocean acidification and overexploitation of virgin forests, overfishing and ocean warming, increased use of natural resources in coastal areas and sea level rise, just as it is about the destruction of the cryosphere and the loss of languages.
Oceans in Transformation was awarded the STARTS Prize 2021, Grand Prize - Artistic Exploration.
