It was surprisingly warm (-1C) but dark in the mountains. But, nevertheless, nothing can replace the feeling of being in nature...! Have a wonderful week, everyone!

He tries to sleep, to forget the pain of his past, those faces, those places and of those memories. He tries to think of how he can truly be free in his life... in mind and in body...

Assignment: PCA71 – Transformation
Deadline: Sunday, July 12, 2009 (2 weeks)
Image Tag: pca71
From: Anthony J.T.
Mission
According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, the general definition of transformation is "to change in composition or structure; to change the outward form or appearance of; to change in character or condition".
I think the process of representing this photographically is challenging, because the world around us is in a constant state of change or transformation. In my opinion, the most effective images move not only the subject, but the viewer, from one place to a new one (a "transformation" of sorts) evoking thoughts of how change effects the subject of the photo, the world around us, and the viewer him or herself.
The goal of this assignment is to create a work that embodies the idea of transformation - how you see it, what it means to you as a person and as a photographer. As the examples illustrate below, I believe you can have success showing transformation in a concrete or metaphysical way. Go with what you know! Submissions SOOC to Photoshop creations are perfectly acceptable.
WIT: This is an attempt to show transformation in a concrete, though imaginary way. The shapes and colours here seem to shape shift and transform back and forth somewhat. It is a few maple leaves snuggled up against an abandoned machine of some kind in the back of the mechanics shop on the college campus where I work. I was actually taking rust pictures trying to get some vibrant colour and texture for the pro assignment, but this pic popped out at me because I saw the leaves morphing into paint chips or vise versa. Maybe that is what happens ... just in this one spot. I'll keep my eye on it. Colour boosted and sharpened.
In this club we believe that happiness, power and grace is an inside job. That’s why we choose to work with the three elements of training, food and soul. For some, training comes easy whilst the food part get’s left unnoticed.
She sure is growing up fast!
It is just crazy how quickly babies change, especially over the first couple of months. I am just so madly in love with her.

About this book:
In the FSU catalog, the general topics were Latin fables translated into Italian, poetry about metamorphosis and classical mythology.
Metamorphoses was a poem in 15 books written in Latin around 8 CE by Ovid. It is a collection of mythological and legendary stories in which transformation (or metamorphosis) plays a role. Although the stories are unrelated, they are told in chronological order from the creation of the world to the death of Julius Caesar. The poems are known more for the theme of passion than metamorphosis. This work is particularly noted for its narrative and descriptive qualities along with its wit and rhetoric (Encyclopedia Britannica).
Ovid (full Latin name: Publius Ovidius Naso) was a Roman poet who was noted for several works including Metamorphoses. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, “his verse had immense influence both by its imaginative interpretations of classical myth and as an example of supreme technical accomplishment.”
Lodovico Dolce was an Italian theorist of painting. He was also a humanist, prolific author, translator and editor in Venice. He worked in Venice with the press of Gabriele Giolito de’Ferrari. He specialized in making information available in Italian; and translating Greek and Latin. He wrote in many literary genres including poetry, romance, comedy, tragedy, prose, treatises, encyclopedic summaries and historical works on prominent 16th century figures (Wikipedia).
Gabriele Giolito de’Ferrari was a 16th century Venetian printer. He was one of the first literature publishers in the vernacular Italian language. His press specialized in the publishing of Renaissance classics and new authors. He was known for his printer’s device; a phoenix emerging from flames atop a globe with the initials G.G.F. He died in Venice in 1578 when the press was taken over by his two sons until 1606 (Wikipedia).
