One of two E200MMCs introduced in September 2018, YX18KZG (727) is seen on its way out of Naburn as it works the 10:15 York-Drax 42.
The present iteration of the 42 came about in October 2017 when the previously separate Selby-Cawood-York (42) and Selby-Drax (8) routes amalgamated. Prior to the sudden demise of Utopia Coaches that August, the Cawood route had operated at a minimum of a bus per hour, provided by the 420 between York and Selby, and 422 between York and Pontefract. The 8, meanwhile, offered a bus every two hours. The fall of Utopia left a gap and, although Transdev stepped in on the 8, the Cawood route was left to an in-house NYCC minibus operating as route 426 several times per day as well as an Arriva peak working between Stillingfleet and York operating as an X26 in the morning and 26 in the evening. The 42 offers a bus every ninenty minutes, providing Drax with an increased frequency and new links to York, and the villages of Cawood and Stillingfleet with something approaching the service levels they enjoyed when Utopia were still around. Saturday evening and Sunday buses operating between Selby and York as a 42S were introduced under Arriva in May 2018 with funding via the Parish Transport Initiative.
Following reliability issues with ageing MPDs, Transdev are presently deploying two leased E200MMCs with branding for the 42. These carry the 'York & Country' motif which was created to cover the work salvaged from the closure of Stephensons in January 2018, rather than the 'Little Explorers' branding used on the 22 which the 42 initially was brought under.

Current vehicles on Transdev's former Stephensons rural routes heading northwards from York are a colourful bunch of former Harrogate and Burnley Versas dating from 2012. These drifted eastwards from August onwards to replace the majority of ex Harrogate B10BLEs and ex Blackburn Versas which had been operating these routes. One has even been outshopped in the long-awaited 'York & Country' livery which was unveiled as the 'brand' for these services shortly after Transdev took them on.
YJ12MZN (207) was captured at Stittenham on the 09:00 York-Malton 181 this morning. The 181 differs from the 31X and 194 in that it did not immediately pass from Stephensons to Transdev, but was instead contracted to Connexions for a month or so.

Transdev York took on rural routes 31/31X (York-Easingwold-Helmsley) and 194 (Malton-Hovingham) on 22/01/18 after Stephensons abruptly ceased trading. Together with a couple of school contracts and service 181 (York-Castle Howard-Malton) which was briefly operated by Connexions, these routes were awarded to Transdev on a longer-term basis from 19/02/18, and are set to be branded ‘York & Country’ once vehicle repaints begin.
On one of those rare occasions where a break in the clouds coincides with the bus appearing, Versa YJ57XWV (202) is seen as heads through Appleton-le-Street with the 12:05 Hovingham-Malton 194. The 194 was initially operated from the Coastliner depot at Malton when Transdev stepped in, however once the longer term contract was awarded operation passed to York depot interworked with the 181. The Versa was one of six new to Lancashire United in early 2008 which were then shifted to York in 2009 to cover service 844 between York and Leeds. When the 844 was withdrawn, four returned over the Pennines to Lancashire and, with buses required to cover the newly acquired services at York, two have retraced their tyre tracks to York this year and presently operate the ‘York & Country’ network alongside former Harrogate B10BLEs.
