Changing trains in Nagastuta

We got a call from our son this morning, that the Tornado steam train was passing his village at 9:32 on the way to York. We quickly got ready and drove over there, luckily it was a nice sunny morning. The "lake" in front is still a waterlogged field.

We missed our train from Delhi to Haridwar and really didn't know what to do. A "friendly" man told us we had to exchange our tickets at the office by the blue sign. Turned out it was a con to get more money out of us. This place was so busy with so many people staring, begging and trying to sell you something that we really weren't comfortable. I was so mad about trying to be tricked out of our money that I really just took this shot out of anger. It was taken from a stairwell with a telephoto lens. I wanted to be able to illustrate our tale when we got back to the states.

My final operator of the night and my service home. I waited for half an hour on a freezing cold platform and was soo happy to see this turn up. Good old Heathrow Connect. Just 15 hours after starting out on my National Rail Oyster Odyssey I was home.

WE had a lovely 83rd BIRTHDAY lunch at the LE TRAIN BLEU resturant at the GARE DU LYON in PARIS for JACKIE.

The waiter was a charmer. He was so happy to wait on us when he heard it was JACKIEs 83 rd birthday!

JACKIE had her fave rack of lamb which was excellent along with some potatoes dauphine (cheese):::I had my fave ROASTED VEGGIES which were incredible:::along with a good glass of red:

When it came time for dessert; he brought out the specialty BABA AU RUM with a candle::::he then sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY in french to JACKIE. He explained that this dessert is one of the original desserts when the resturant opened back in 1900; He then sliced the cake open and pulled out a bottle of rum from his cart: Tradition says; pour the rum over the cake and then leave the bottle on the table ; in case you would like a touch more! That certainly went well with us:::hahahaha

LE TRAIN BLEU is a over the top resturant that was built in the 1900;s for the WORLD EXPO; It is truely a place to go in PARIS though it is a tad pricey: Well worth it:::

JACKIE had a wonderful day:::and loved the cards and birthday wishes::::

As I’ve said before, the trains where I work are the arteries of Seattle and the arteriosclerosis of SoDo. So much portage, so much trade… so much frustration as you’re left wondering exactly how long this train is and whether it’s going to move any time in the near future. Seriously, there are days where we can hear the bells of the railroad crossing going for about an hour at a stretch as the traffic backs up outside our building.

Which makes me all the more grateful that I can work up the chutzpah to climb over these bastards with a certain degree of uneasy familiarity, usually accompanied by the gaze of the drivers still waiting for this monstrosity to move already.

Me? Smug about this little perk to walking through SoDo?

Southbound NS train 301 has just lined itself into the siding at Midway and has passed the searchlight signals on a bracket post at the north end of the siding. The NS Brooklyn District was single-tracked in the Eighties; to save money, NS didn't install centralized traffic control on this line and operates it as track warrant and ABS territory. Most sidings are equipped with spring switches to speed up meets.

Traffic on the NS Brooklyn District is heavier than usual due to recent flooding that's caused the railroad's Hannibal bridge to be taken out of service. NS traffic between Decatur and Kansas City are currently detouring via St. Louis.
