These carriages have been around for a long time and the yellow Pullman car contains the Queen, who might also be said to be a bit weathered and worn.

With a long train of refined gasoline in tow, KCSM 4662 heads for Mexico as it rolls through Chaney Jct in central Houston.

Although the train appears to be continuing straight ahead here, it's actually navigating a long crossover between the Passenger Main (right) and Freight Main (left). The slight jog after the fourth tank car is the crossover switch.

The new signals at Chaney would be cut-over in June 2025.

Somewhere New Mexico

This was somewhere south on my drive towards Alamogordo. I saw this train running beside me as I was driving and loved the scene around me. I drove up in front of it and jumped out of the car to try to get a shot of the train as it passed. Just feels like a perfect western scene. I thought it was a nice b&w, even though I loved it color as well.

Yep, this is UP train RWYODS with two CNs, an NS, BNSF, and not a single UP unit in the consist. They're easing their way down the hill just south of Block after waiting for the MYCAS to finish their work in Villa Grove.

The GTW Santa Train for employees families rolls north/west of Fenton on the Holly subdivision. This train with a pair of IC E8's will turn west at Durand and head for its next stop in Battle Creek on December 20, 2009.

Travels so far this year have taken me to areas with more so-called fake trains than freight haulers. In this case I couldn't leave a new-to-me state without at least a token picture. Not my preferred well lit nice scene but I preferred spending my time getting back to the scenery at Waikiki than taking the time to chase to the end of the line. We did ride the nicely restored open platform parlor car on the previous trip and saw that the far end of the line travels close to the coast through some nice resorts.

The 6 1/2 miles that the Oahu Railway Society operates is all that is left of a once sophisticated 70 mile long double track narrow gauge railroad. It was used extensively during World War 2 to haul troops, workers, and military supplies along with it's historical agricultural base of sugar and pineapples. It was used by the Navy until 1970 for hauling ammunition to Pearl Harbor but the development of a highway system was too much to overcome and all operations stopped. The Society was formed as a non-profit to preserve what it can of Hawaii's railway history.
