Jack gets the best birthdays ever! First a rocket launch in Florida two years ago, now a total eclipse! #eclipse2024🌘 #totaleclipse
20 photos shot in the hour before the total eclipse with the exposure set for 'normal' daylight. As the sequence progresses, you can see how dark it gets as totality approaches. In reality, it did not get as dark as this shows, but even a DSLR cannot capture the dynamic range between full sunlight and a total eclipse. Enjoy!

As you go through the next few photos, do keep an eye out on the prominences at both the 6- and 3-o'clock positions (south and east, respectively).
Within the 4-min of totality, you can observe their eruptions. The one at 6 o'clock is so bright that it can be seen with the naked eyes! The prominence eruption at 3 o'clock is of a lesser intensity.

Since I didn't have solar filter for my camera, as a last minute idea, I placed one of my eclipse viewing glasses over the lenses of my camera, and it worked!
This view shows "Bailey's Beads" on the lower edge; sunlight through the craters.
Cloud cover was thin and wispy; but I had a beautiful view.
A diamond ring flanked by some rubies!
The prominence eruptions at the south and east position is still going strong!

A man paddles under the second half of the total solar eclipse. The light in the sky is dim and the moon is about half covering the sun.
Looking west from the Burlington, VT waterfront, the Adirondack mountains of Upstate New York are in the distance. Snow from over the weekend still remains on a few of their peaks.

Just after totality ended, I was able to get a few HDR images of my friends as they continued to image the sun.
